I saw this on Facebook and decided to check out the actual lot of stamps. It's unbelievable. I've never seen so many stamps in a single place. MOre than any store could carry. This is what the auction site posted:
We Are Almost Done Sorting Out What May Very Well Be The Largest Private Collection Of Rubber Stamps In The World.
Here Are Some Pictures To Give You An Idea Of How Much Is Really In This Auction.
2 Full 53ft Semi Trailers Of Rubber Stamps
"Over A Million Stamps" Will All Be Sold To The Highest Bidder.
Saw some PSX, lots of retired SU and what must be every House Mouse and other other stamp ever made. I really like lot #138. This is fun, but I have no idea how to bid.

Wow, I've never seen anything like that. It looks like a bunch of the stamps were purchased on ebay. I wonder, did they buy them with the idea of auctioning them off?

Maybe they all came from someone we've seen on the Hoarders show.
No kidding. I've seen episodes where people have their house and several storage buildings filled to the brim with boxes of stuff they've ordered online and never even opened.

WOW! Looks like this person was buying boxes full of stamps and not even opening some of them. YIKES! One box of HOuse Mouse stamps was $835.00, It's really overwhelming. I could never focus enough to even pick a box to bid on.
I guess if a person is going to hoard and hoard only one type of item it should be stamps~Hahaha!
I haven't bought stamps on e-bay in years. I didn't know you could buy a box full at a time. Would this just be if you bought say 15 sets from one seller. Not that the seller is selling boxes of stamps????

They describe it as a business opportunity for Ebayers and Amazon re-sellers! Yikes!!
I wouldn't have clicked on auction preview. Thanks for pointing that out. Now this is way more than hoarding! They must have been buying to re-sell. I don't know, that's crazy. I have to go look again. WOW!
It says 611 lots of stamps. WOWZERS! Those large cardboard watermelon bins are full of shipping boxes full of stamps!
Okay, some look to be in a home also, not in a storage facility. Someone was spending their children's inheritance
I'm from WI. Everyone else in the state is watching the Packer game. I'm looking at stamps! Hahahaha!

That's wild! I think it must have been a crafty hoarder. If I had the funds or lacked all self control, I could imagine how it could happen. At least they seem to be in logical groupings. I saw one with all Christmas, one with all cats, etc.
It is totally unbelieveable. And, it makes me feel better about the crafty stuff I've bought and haven't used yet. My collection couldn't fill even ten boxes of what is shown. Some beautiful stamps she had.

I get scared watching that show :( It makes me want to get up and grab a broom or clean out a closet every time. I feel a tightness in my chest when I look at these pictures, too. "Collecting" can easily become a sickness and it could be any of us!
PS Sheesh, all of the Stampin' Up in clamshells! It's like a mini archive.
But now we have the answer to who pushed all those ebay auctions up so high! Did you see the $$ on some of the boxes that hadn't been opened until they were opened by the auction company????
Thousands of $$ in unopened boxes.
Wow! I'm going to show this to my husband. He is cursing me right now because we are moving this week and he thought I had a lot. That person must have had a lot of disposable income. I don't and thankfully so otherwise I might have rooms full of stamps (one is enough!)
Honestly......that is simply crazy! I thought I had too many stamps......guess not! Maybe I should do some online shopping today! I only have 3 small tubs !

OMG! Thanks for pointing me to this auction. Searched the user name on ebay and this person has sold some stamps in the past and has continued to buy as recently as a month ago. What a collection. I wish them well.
This collection is mind boggling. Wood mount stamps take up a lot of space, I can't help to wonder how they were all stored and if they are I as good of shape as they look. I would hate to bid on a collection only to find out half the rubber is dried out.
There is a lot that does not make sense to me here-
-Many of these purchases were made on ebay recently- almost at if someone was trying to build the world's largest stamp collection- all at once.
-Many of the prices paid were waaaay over market value. Especially for a lot of stamps that were "out of style" not current and not collectibles.
- It feels like someone bought things because they were "hot" items"
I wonder if someone , encouraged by some of the outrageous listing prices for some stamps on ebay- was trying to build some sort of stamp or craft business. Most of the stamps appear to be new.
If this did belong to an individual stamper, it makes me sad. She did not seem to have a chance to enjoy or use her purchases.
Thank goodness I don't have the time or the inclination to go through the listings- so I am not tempted to bid!

I've watched a lot of the TV series Hoarding and it is truly a mental illness when it reaches this level. But about the person not having a chance to enjoy or use the purchases, many people who are true hoarders do not use the items they collect. They simply need to possess them.

From what I understand from the people in charge of the auction is that the woman was a hoarder and had a house and storage unit filled with stamps. The family stepped in and hired the auction company to handle the sale. As you have seen many purchases were made and never even opened. A sad situation for the woman but quite an opportunity for other crafters.
Maybe she had a store. You know how LSS stores close all the time. My LSS could have a lot just like this if she had to close. She is wall to wall to wall to wall rubber stamps and then even more in other supplies.
I took a look. Seeing all those House Mouse stamps sparked a bit of envy. But not for long. The more I looked, the more my heart ached for the person who owned them. The money she spent, the guilt, the embarrassment, the pain of parting with them. With enough extra cash and without someone to keep us in check, I think that could easily be many of us. Who knows. Maybe it is one of us. There, but for the grace of God, go I.
I do know a woman who probably has a significant number of stamps. I wouldn't call her a hoarder. She's more of a can't say know shopper! Her SU orders almost always qualified as a party by herself! Then I would see her at our LSS ordering big also! I think it was more of a "what a cool technique... I need everything they used to create that" problem. Although I'm told you can't move when you are inside her home!
You said it very well. There must be a lot of guilt, pain and embarrasment behind this. I looked at a few of the listings and they really made me sad for this person. I even saw repeats of the same stamps. I just cant imagine- so much stuff!
I would love get hand some of stamps this lady. Had but don't trust the site
penny black ones if she had any stampin'up ones and etc. It be awesome b-day gift to me next week. And there are a lot more stamp companies I like this lady had lol hotwheels
That was interesting to check out; though I didn't look past probably 10 or 20 boxes, it was too overwhelming!!! I have been stamping for years, and have more stamps than I will ever use before I die. In fact, I keep getting rid of old ones I'll never use again, especially my wood mounted; so these were just too much to see even for an avid card maker!!! In my younger years I would have been excited about some of these, now, I don't want more clutter in my life!!!
I'd love a couple of the House Mouse stamps, but I don't want to bid on a whole box of stuff. Not to mention that the shipping could be quite costly.
It's a great opportunity for someone who sells and lives near SanDiego. At least then you can see the lots and pick them up personally. Could be a very profitable business opportunity.

I saw a few Penny Black stamps that I would love to have, but it just makes me sad to look at the pictures for too long. I am new to getting those and have fallen in love with them. The House Mouse ones are so cute too. How awful to have such wonderful treasures at your fingertips but not be able to enjoy them.
What fun it would have been to be the one to open all those boxes! I feel sad for the original owner. This is what my collection would look like if I had ever won the lottery.
I paged through part of the catalog, what a wonderful trip down memory lane. It's tempting to bid on a box then play treasure hunt. There are some lovely sets from long ago!

Melissa are you a House Mouse fan? I might have a couple I can send you.
Let me know!

I LOVE House Mouse! I think they are so sweet! I have two of them from the late 1990s:
**Signing a Card (a mouse with a pencil signing a card next to a roll of stamps--remember when stamps came in a roll???)
**Mouse Drops (a mouse on top of a medicine bottle with a dropper giving the medicine to a sick little mouse wrapped in a blanket.)
