Default Snake Inundation!

Catch your attention? Okay, no snakes; it's the dang power cords and strips that are driving me crazy. I have a combined work area of two desks and a table, which make room for lots of electronic items and lights, enough to fill two power strips. The power cord storage products I see available are $20-$40 and probably wouldn't handle everything I have anyway.

Any of you have an original homemade solution for taming these things?

I found a neat device on Amazon. It is a flexible power strip called Flex Your Power by Quirky. I don't know if I can explain it. Each outlet can be moved to a position to fit your plugs and adapters. They call it Pivotable Surge Protection. It's about $26, but if you have Swagbucks you can use your earnings for free stuff on Amazon. I don't know how to post a link.
You would still have to deal with the cords themselves, but it makes it easier to use all the outlets in the surge protector.

At WalMart, you can buy these strips of fabric with Velcro adhered. You wrap around a cord, then kind of “fold” the cord accordian style, then wrap the Velcro around the whole bundle to adhere to itself and keep them contained. It is n the hardware section. I love them!

Default Power Bars

I agree that a run through pinterest for cord organization will likely give you some really good ideas. With so many electrical products these days I easily need double the amount of power outlets in my walls. I have "cord snakes" all over the house too. I makes it hard to vacuum and dust....very frustrating.
If you are looking for power bars I like this long one I got for Christmas light usage and the other I use for my craft electrics and love. It has on/off switches for each unit which provides an easy way to regulate things that don't have switches and need to be unplugged after use, such as my glue gun and coffee hot plate; or to prevent using too much wattage and blowing the breaker.

Okay, I've got me a plan. My situation is made worse in that the work surfaces are not located against a wall but near the middle of the room with a power cord running to the wall under a throw rug. I don't want to mount anything to the furniture at this point.
1-Remove everything from table and 2 desks. It's definitely due a good cleaning anyway.
2-ID tag each cord and wrap each accordian style with straps. Have cord run to a central power strip location. See just how many I have and which ones have those over-sized plugs, decide which ones might not need to be plugged in all the time (The old Cricut is gathering dust.) I like that the Quirky pivotal power strip allows space to handle the oversized plugs. Another option was this Home Depot power strip with some wide spacing.
Leviton 15 Amp Office Grade Surge Protected 9-Outlet Power Strip, 2020 Joules, On/Off Switch, 6 Foot Cord, Beige-S2000-PS - The Home Depot
3-Once I have this snake pile plugged in to the strip(s) I want to cover it all with a basket box of some sort and set my radio on top. The radio already has a footprint on the surface; so the basket wouldn't be adding much more.
If this suits me, I might look into some some improvement over the upside down basket.

Thanks for ideas.

Please, please, please....do not run power cords under rugs! It's a fire hazard even if the cords are well insulated. Just tossing my two cents in from my Community Emergency Response Training (certified for my county).

Happy crafting!

I was thinking the same thing!

The undersides of carpets can act almost like sandpaper and, before you know it, the cord's insulation has been worn off and it's just a fire hazard waiting to happen.

My craft table is away from the wall. I run an extension cord to the power strip that is attached to the leg of the table. I use a hard rubber cord cover to keep under control. I also use a metal shelf basket under my desk to keep the cables off the floor. I added some links to show what I use. I too would like to see your end game Ü
