I am sure you have pastel papers in the art stores. There are a couple of shades in Canson's Mi-Teintes pastel papers that I have used for skin tones in punch art for years and years. I only know the names in French, though - one might be Oyster in English perhaps. Personally I've always liked the extra bit of texture too - one side is a bit smoother than the other. It's not as heavy as cardstock, I don't think it would be sufficient on its own for a doll base, but could be layered with thin white card.
