I have been looking at blogs and videos and just LOVE the super girly, blingy, chunky albums people are making. It's not my instinctive style so I don't have lacy, ribbiony, flowery, blingy embelishments but I really like it - so why isn't it my style? - that's a question for another day, haha
Anyway, I decided to look on ebay to see if any of these were being sold. OH. MY. GOSH.
1 6x6 chunky blinged out handmade chipboard album was in a bidding war an it was over $250!!!! Yes, really!! The starting bid was about $45. Crazy!
So if any of you skilled blingmasters are looking for some cash, check out Ebay and get your albums up for sale!
I was and still am totally floored at how high the prices go!
I couldn't afford to get in on those bids so I looked at Etsy and found a BEAUTIFUL album that I bought, it probably would have gone pretty high on Ebay.
I charge $20 a page to 'customize' it and 20 pages...so that seems fair. The stuff does not cost so much but my time and inspiration does! Same with my sewing. Some will pay but most won't. Then they try to do it, give up and hand it all to me to 'clean up'...the price goes up then!
Wow lucky lady. I can barely sell one a premade family or baby for $10 at a craft show.

I did not say I got a lot of J O B S ;)! But, when I do I don't give it away, kwim? Also, I don't do craft fairs anymore. People seem to want it for free at those things. My business is by word of mouth.
Yeah! That is exactly what I am talking about!! And it still has over 17 hours left to go! The one I got on Etsy wasn't near as blinged out as this one but I still love it.
On Ebay, people are choosing if they want to pay $150 or more for an album. If it's worth that or more to them, let them pay it for your creativity
The materials are expensive. I loved the Valentine one linked, but just count up what was either purchased and or supplies for the items made and included.
While the bidding for that particular album is going crazy, I just spent a few minutes looking around ebay, and most of the listings have 0 bids. Maybe etsy is a better idea, after all...?
I have to say those albums are not my style but kudos for the lady selling and making some good change. I tried to sell my cards on ebay and finally gave up and now I donate them to Troops and Canuck House (our local house for sick kids and their parents to stay while in hospital. I think that once you start selling you might do well, it just takes the right item and what people want.
Ebay is definitely the place to sell that kind of thing, if you do fancy work. Once you get a following things can really go at great prices. I remember back when the economy was better you would routinely see a lot of scrapbook pages, and mini albums go for over 100.00. It really is an art form, like folk art.
I remember when she was posting items ... I think this is the most I have ever seen someone pay for a two page layout. It was cute ... but that could but a ton of craft stuff

I think these people have a serious problem if they pay that much for scrapbook pages or albums! Just think in a couple of years those albums will be out of date, like the previous post said that would buy some serious crafting supplies!!
I have a 6x6 finished album that I wanted to sell on ebay, but one time I tired selling cards on ebay and I actually lost money. Once I paid shipping (I didn't charge enough for shipping) and then I paid the ebay fees and paypal fees I lost money. I used to sell a lot on ebay but their increasing fees have turned me off and now I only sell when I have to.
I think its wonderful that someone can make some money selling their scrapbook pages on ebay, but to be honest I wouldn't pay that kind of money. Like the poster above me said, I can buy a lot of new craft supplies with the money.

I agree. But I do understand if you don't craft, or want to buy all of the "stuff" to make something like one of these albums, why the price could seem reasonable. I mean consider all the paper, adhesive, diecuts, die cut machines, chalks, etc, that it takes to make even one of these albums.

Personally I reckon she (and all the others like her) deserve every penny! After all no one knows better than us (splitcoast sisters & brothers!) just how much work goes into any handmade craft. If we were to be paid what it has realistically cost in supplies and time I doubt any of us would sell anything!
Previous posters have hit the nail on the head when saying folk want something for nothing!
Before I got seriously into card making my big passion was cross-stitch and one time I spent months on several large pictures (for my late Mum) which included the Lord's prayer, Psalm 23 to name just 2. A guy I worked with then asked me whether I would then "Knock one up!!!" (yes he used those exact words! As if it was a 2hour job!) for his wife and that he would pay me �10 for doing it! That equates to about $15!!!
Anyone like to guess what my answer was?!! Clean ones only please! LOL!

You know it is all relative to the amount of money they have to spend. I am sure the people that buy these have much more disposable income than I do. And quite honestly it is not any different then spending 500.00 on a purse, or 800.00 on a dress when you have that kind of money to play with. Also, I don't see how they could become outdated when they have your precious photos and memories inside?

A friend was asked by a co-worker to do this . She said no that is dishonest. The co-worker said she has people "help her" like this all the time. It "creates interest' in her listings and helps her get high prices .
Lucky talented crafters who can command high $$ for their creations! I've seen alot of amazing mini albums shared on YouTube.com. Especially the steampunk or Tim Holtz style..gorgeous!
Some of these people invest not only lots of time but money too with the amount of trinkets & cute doo dads layered in the album.

This may NOT be the case here, but some e-Bay sellers have friends put in bids to bump up the price. If they accidently win the seller gives them back their money & just re-lists the item at a later date
A friend was asked by a co-worker to do this . She said no that is dishonest. The co-worker said she has people "help her" like this all the time. It "creates interest' in her listings and helps her get high prices .
I don't think the people who are buying them care so much about if the ablum goes out of style, the one I bought on Etsy will always be precious to me because of what I do with it, not the style.
Even though I do my own crafty stamping and stuff, I don't have a clue where to get the embellishments they are putting into these albums. There aren't any scrap stores here and there is only one little stamp store but she doesn't carry this bling.
People certianlly do want stuff for nothing. I was "commissioned" to do a drawing for the cover of a book a friend will be publishing. Well, our definition of commission is different and basically comes down to maybe a percent of any royalties and bragging rights that I did a cover....in other words I do it for free and hope someone buys her $15 book and maybe I will get $1 from the sale. After spending a few hours doing research for the design, then a few hours of a sample...I'm hours into it already. But I guess it is my own fault for not discussing $ up front.
I think friends are the worse for wanting freebies..even friends who are in better financial situations and know it seem to be the ones who complain the most about paying. At least that is how my and my husband's friends seem to be.
Even my own brother called me yesterday to design a tattoo..but I can do a freebie for him but he will owe me..(not really) haha.
I didn't know Ebay charged fees. I thought it was free to post but then they got a fee for the sale.

I noticed that the same buyer "fourblondes" bought multiple things for a LOT of money! Wonder who this mysterious buyer is??!!

Regarding the shill bidding - I think that goes on with Cricut Cartridges listed there all the time. Funny thing is you can see a listing sit there for .99 for the entire week. Then, as it clicks down around 10 or so hours to the end, a mystery bidder come in, get the bids raised and then never come back in the end - they just came by, upped the anty and moved on. Also, they are always hidden - their usernames I mean. The real bidders don't do that. I started seeing this pattern when I was getting all of my carts last week.

They charge a fee for the listing and the fee depends on how much your starting your auction $4.99 or less is one set price, $9.99-$5.00 is another set price, etc...
You get 1 free picture but any others are extra.
Then there are all kinds of extra options that you can purchase (but they aren't required).
When the auction is done, you get charged another fee for whatever the item was sold for (like the listing fee).
And now to top it ALL off, you have to pay paypal a fee (which by the way e-bay owns)
Oh, and now the seller cannot leave negative feedback for the buyers but the buyer can totally rip into the seller (and can end of getting the item free due to ebay siding with the buyer). So now the seller has paid for all of the fees and shipping and now no longer has the product.
I haven't sold anything on there for a few years now because it's just not worth the hassle. Don't forget, you still have to box everything up and more than likely make a trip to the post office.
Just not worth it IMO.

Katie, Ebay has fixed it so you cannot see the bidders names. For the last couple of years auctions for popular supplies seems to go that way, they sit till the last day with no bids. People don't bid till the end because they do not want to drive the bids up. Their is a term for that, sniping I think. But honestly I have never seen any better prices on cricut cartridges anywhere else, I don't know how those sellers can sell them so cheap. But that is another story.

I also think there are folk who sell from more than 1 eBay account and get each account to keep bumping up the price on the other account's items. It's against eBay rules, but that doesn't stop some folks from doing it.
