Self evalutation of your art
I thought it might be fun for all of us stampers to take a self evaluation of what we think our strong suits are in our artistry. Do you have a good eye for color and what goes together well? Do you know how to put different things together? Do you have one particular style you find yourself doing? Is it in the layering for you? Do you love contrast and texture? What element of art is your specialty? Think about it and let us know. We can visit your gallery and see if we agree!! I don't know if this has already been done before, but I missed it if it has. I thought this would be fun.
Personally, I think I am good with color, and I love working on the layouts of my cards.

Wow, so we can toot our own horn, huh? Okay, there are many things I'm not good at, but I can cut things out well and add them on in just the right spot. I also think I can make masculine cards really well...they are easy for me because I like them so much.
This is a great idea for a thread because I get so much of my inspiration (okay just about all) from the talent here on SCS. It would be good to see what others think is their strong suit and look at their gallery from that point of view.

Lisa, You are a handy dandy with those scissors. I think you also have a real talent at design. All your cards go together so well.

I'm not good at a lot of things but I think I have and eye for color and details. I love to create scenes and I'm getting good at masking but I have along way to go to be a good card maker.

I would probably say my strengths are craftsmanship and precision which is more than likely why I love layered stamping so much. But many may look at my work and say, "She's delusional!!!," so who knows??

eek, Liz! That's a tough one.
90% of the time, I am just thanking God if I get the card finished! I would have to say, my strong points are balance and layout. I like to 'play' with color, too, but sometimes I get so far off the beaten path, kwim? LOL
I have seen your work alot, Liz, over the years and I have to agree.. you are aces with color.
Leisa.. in peeking at your gallery, I have to agree.. you must have been born with scissors in your hands.. ouch for your mom! LOL
AbbysGrammy... you don't give yourself enough credit! You do beautiful work. Please come teach me how to mask!
Lynn... ~ Send me one of your cards so I can inspect the craftsmanship ... heehee. No, seriously, I have always admired your work.
Next!?

Toot! Toot! I have only been making cards for about 6 months and really trying to learn from all you artists. I enjoy watercoloring and hope that will turn out to be my strength. Verdict is still out! I know the cards of most of the ladies that have already chimed in and they are stunning. Still trying to learn all the techniques and my cutting out of designs needs a lot of work. Still learning and having lots of fun!

I just love to stamp and make cards so overall I think that shows. I think I am really good with sketches and also really good at using ribbon and tying bows.

You are so good at creating scenes, which does make use of the masking skill for sure. I love your fabulous scenes.

Fine eye to details without a double. Precision deluxe I would have to say about all the beautiful things in your gallery. That's one reason you have such a knack at those beautiful Kitchen Sink stamps.

Wow, Holly I am so flattered to have a dirty dozen gal taking part in this thread. You have inspired so many of us over the years and helped make this the great place it is. I think you are a master at design and balance and you have a great eye for color. I also love the wide variety of things you do. Thanks for commenting here!!

One question, where do you come up with the idea that you are *nottoocreative*!!!??? I love how you make a copy your own. None of us dream up all these ideas on our own, but taking an idea and making it your own takes a great sense of talent. Why are we all here if not to be motivated and inspired and get an idea rolling for us????

Cathleen, I think you are so right about the color, but Holly is so right about your fabulous layouts. I love going to someone's gallery and seeing a great variety of things and styles that involve a great use of design and color.

hmm.. this is a tough one, and I thought about not posting, but you really made me think. I am getting better at layouts. I no longer need a sketch or to CASE someone for the design.. I love to colour, and consider myself pretty good with the Copics.. I'm also really getting into this CAS thing.. I think I have an eye for clean and simple cards..
on the flip side i don't use a lot of embellishments or ribbon because i think when I (and only I) add them it makes the card look too cluttered or off-balance.

I think you have made a great point. When we have an eye for what works for us on our own stuff, that is a great skill to have as well. I know there is a fine line when too much stuff is just too much. You gotta know when to stop before it's overdone. I love great clean and simple cards that are of great design and non-smudged (like mine too often are). There is really nothing more elegant than that style of card. You have some great ones in your gallery. I have to agree with your accessment of your coloring skills as well. That's the one I am trying to improve on.

I am really good at taking two hours to make a card....ugh. I wish I could work faster.
I guess my strength would be that I don't have a set style. I can do a lot of different styles of stamps - from cutesy to elegant.

Oh, Lazylizard, you are so kind. I am really anxious to looks at all the galleries of the posters to this thread. I know your work and it is fabulous. I posted to this thread and have been too busy to get back and join in as I have travelled out of state to babysit my 8 week old grandson for a few days and that is fun! Of course, I was missing SCS and got online and saw this interesting thread and couldn't help but chime in. Maybe I can check everyone out later.

wow. This is a different thread. I love reading the posts on this.
I don't know what my strength is. I mainly scrapbook and my cards aren't that great, but they are better than they were a year ago. So I guess I'm improving. I take forever to make a scrapbook page. Longer than Judy's two hour cards. I generally spend 3 or 4 I would guess, plus more just mulling it over in my mind.

I guess my strength would be that I don't have a set style. I can do a lot of different styles of stamps - from cutesy to elegant. |
Holy cow! I would totally spend two hours if my cards would turn out like yours! They are great. You obviously inspire lots of others on this site. You have lots of comments.

I think not having a particular style is a plus too. The variety in your gallery is wonderful. I think you also have a great feel for what is great art in the stamp itself. Some stamps are just better than others, KWIM? Love the work you do for Our Daily Bread. I love sharing my faith by making use of one of the talents God gave me. Glad you do too.

I think I have an eye of color but I have to take my time with my cards. I don't have an particular style but I love trying new techniques. I don't really know what my strength is.
