Default Sayings for unsigned cards to recycle/pass on

Do you have sayings that you put in cards that are unsigned so that they can pass them on rather than (horrors!) throw it away? This is the one I wrote, but I know I have seen much more clever ones.

Although I made this card especially for you,
and I do hope it brought you
some cheer,
feel welcome to pass it on
to someone else now
that you too hold
dear.

I recently saw a thread on this topic but can't search now. It might be in the thread of poems started by Rushed Lady (I hope I got her username right)

I came online to post a thank you for a BRAK card I just received. It happened to have this saying on a slip of paper:

I didn't sign this card before
I sent it off to you,
instead it holds my warmest
thoughts invisible but true,
So if you find you need to
brighten someone's day,
then take this card, sign it and
send it on its way.

I found the thread:

You should also look for the thread mentioned in my original post. And there is an older, extensive one of various sentiments. I think that was started by Delia.

Last Christmas, I enclosed a separate note in all my cards, encouraging people to remove the insert where my personal greeting was written, cut their own using the original as a template and re-use the card. A lot of cards had a single, rather than folded, insert, just adhered to the top of the right-hand inside of the card. Both types of insert were only adhered using a single line of glue-stick, so easily removed and replaced.

An alternative to the above idea.

Mine says: my frugal partner suggested this page should be an insert, removable so you can send this card on to someone else. If I know the person has limited storage space (nursing home resident, for example) I may include an extra envelope. Most folks don’t have A2 envelopes on hand. I keep expecting to get one back, but it hasn’t happened yet.

I did this with Christmas cards and at the bottom of my separate letter I wrote the explanation that the card wasn't signed so the recipient could resend it. Ths was not the first year I had done this, so the person should have known, but a week later or so, I got it back with the message written inside, "OK, here it is!" Still don't know if my nephew was kidding, and my sister was flabbergasted, but they will get a signed card next year!

I actually purchased tablets that have pages that you can insert in your card. At the bottom of each it explains how you can write your message on a page then you can stick it to the inside of your card. The card can then be used over and over if the recipient does the same thing. Purchased from:My Sweet Petunia

Sometimes I just attach a post it note saying: "keep this card or pass it along". Then I put my initials and date somewhere on the card in small letters.

Cute card sayings. Thanks for sharing...

For a couple of years now, I have been giving cards to close friends and family unsigned (I was actually asked to do that) So I usually just put a signed sticky note with my name on it and add an extra insert in the card (with a sentiment on it ) Using tear tape on the back that they can remove and use on the card if they if want to pass it on. If I'm hand delivering I give an extra plain envelope that they can use.

What's funny, a few years back, I sent a card to an older aunt of mine. Last year, I went to a cousins house for Christmas activities, and what do I see among the cards taped to the door? Yup, you got it.

I found a quote very similar to this several years ago. I made a few changes, and this is what I use now. So, my card can become a "gift". If mailing, I put the card in a clear envelope and address with a label.  The card inside is just like new, with this poem inside, which I sign.  Patti M

I didn't sign this card
Before I sent it off to you.
Instead it holds my warmest
thoughts, invisible but true.
So if you find you need to brighten
Someone else's day,
Take this card and sign it and
Send it on its way.

Hero Arts used to have inserts you could put in your card that said: I don't see them on their website. I have the digital that I print out and I think it was free but don't remember.

I had a stamp made for myself, that says.

I didn't sign this card, before I sent it to you.
Instead it holds my warmest thoughts, invisible but true.
(There is a divider here)
So if you find you need this card, to bright someone's day,
then take this card and sign it, then send it on its way.
They will be so glad you did!!

This is what I use if I need it.

I sent a e-mail to Hero Arts and they said I can forward the digital inserts if you'd like to have it. They first appeared in a YouTube video by Jennifer McQuire about her favorite 2015 crafty items. It shows at the 11 minute mark. The link to the Hero Arts insert is no longer available. Feel free to e-mail me at bunnycardmaker at gmail.com

I had a stamp made also. I stamp it on 4 x 6 no line index cards and include an envelope. I put it in cards of the people I know who love sending cards. The stamp says:

Recycle this handmade card
by sending it to someone
you care about.

You did!

Thank you for remembering my poem thread! Made my day! Link to it is down in my signature: "Need a Poem?"

Please bookmark the thread so it is handy for when you need it. I think the sentiment needs to be created into a stamp. What do you think?

What do you want to delete, Woolfie?

Apparently I'm in the minority of these "pass it along cards"...I do not like the idea AT ALL! Basically, it sends the message to original recipient that he/she is a "stop along the way" to another recipient. While I actually do that on occasion, I certainly would not like a card sent to me telling me to send it on. And no signature? Seems so impersonal.

mphb, you've never received a card and thought, 'Oh too bad this is signed and written in. I know the perfect person who would love this card!'? The main idea is to take the focus off oneself, and transfer it to someone else that may need it more than you do. I love the idea of sending on a card to someone else.

The 'to send a pass it on card or not' debate. I'm not going to get in the middle of it, but it's not new. And if we as card makers are inspired by a card that was sent to us and we think it perfect for someone else, maybe that's a great time to play with our own stash and say so in the message we send along with the new card.

ETA: like everything related to what sort of card to send to who, I think it depends on the recipient.  Will they enjoy passing on a card or would they rather have it to keep and remember the sender, will they appreciate having something to send along or will they want to make/ choose something themselves.

No, never! I treat cards as mini personal gifts to (& from me). My friends/family would never want a card made by someone else. This is my hobby and my cards are an extension of myself! Sometimes when there are "card drives", I might "re.create" some cards (cut off the front & remount on another card base) from others & include in the bundle as these are going to strangers who wouldn't care who made them.

JM did a video with some ideas that I loved, a little different than the standard poem and more personal in my opinion

I guess it depends on the recipient. Some people are VERY into upcycling. And some people have too much pride to let you just give them blank cards to use...so this way you get around that.

mphb-Maybe think of it as they liked your card so much they wanted to stretch it out, esp if they are not card keepers. After all, people don't have to pass it on...

Wavejumper...it's been an interesting thread! Would I like my cards to be sent to another person? Sure! BUT, I don't want to be "told" to resend a card nor would I tell/suggest that to another person. Just seems wrong. I moderate a local Freecycle group of over 5500 people, so I'm definitely into recycle/upcycle. Always two sides to most everything!

I always write a message and sign my cards to family or friends, but when I participate in the birthday RAK etc, I write my message and sign a post-it , and adhere inside the card. If they want to pass the card on and re-use it, they can. However, my message and signature are inside if they prefer not to. I don't stamp the back of my card with my name or anything, so it's just blank otherwise. I sometimes pass on cards to my daughter (who doesn't make many cards, but sends a lot ), and she loves the recycled cards. So, it really depends on who is sending or receiving, I think.
I like it both ways!
