Default Re Inking a Stampin up pad

I need to re ink a stampin up pad. Can someone tell me how to do this so the ink gets distributed evenly? I have never inked a pad yet so this is my first time.

Thank you
Sheri

Hi Sheri

I do not no if I do it right but what I do is take the tip of the reinker and smooth the ink out and on to the top of the pad till it all is covered and sinks in to the pad you can actualy see it soak in to the pad

I think it depends on how dry the pad is, really. I reinked a black pad that was seriously dry, and first I dotted little dots all over it- and watched them SUCKED away instantly. Then, I ran squiggles of ink diagonally across the pad from corner to corner- and watched as it disappeared instantly. So then, I blobbed big globs of ink everywhere until it finally started to look moist. When I had it decently moist, I took plastic wrap and firmly pressed all over the pad to even it out some. My way probably isn't kosher, either, but the pad is now moist and even.

I just take the tip and rub it all over the pad while gently squeezing the bottle. I keep adding ink until the felt flattens back out and looks nice and moist.

For thick inks (like craft or versacolor), I use a fake credit card (you know, the kind you get with marketing pieces in the mail?) and use that to smoosh the ink into the foam. It's a pain, but it works really well.

HTH!

Thank you all for the info. I am going to reink my classic pads and now have an idea of how to go about it.

Recently, I was told not to over do it on the amount of ink you put back into the pad. Her reasoning was that it will just evaporate and then you've wasted ink. I don't know what to think about this. What do people think? Do you load up your pad with a lot of ink, or do you put just enough to get it usable again?

Oh, I think it's better for the pad to keep it evenly moist. I do re-ink sparingly when using an ink that dries quickly, like the white Staz-on, or some of the other inks out there from different companies. Anything that dries fast, I don't over ink.

For dye pads, I ink until the stuff stops instantly disappearing into the felt. For pigment, I do what Susan does with a "credit card" thing. I go somewhat slowly because goopy pigment pads are a pain in the patootie, lol!

I've been stamping for four years and have never had to re-ink...guess I just don't stamp enough!!! I few pads are getting a little dry. I did read about ink refresher on another thread, and someone said you should try this first as usually your ink is drying up a bit, not running out. I suppose if you use a color a lot, it could need reinking instead. I've never bought the refresher, but would like to try it.

When the corners curl up, does that mean the pad needs to be reinked?

Also, I don't stamp continuously. When I notice a pad needs to be reinked, should I reink it before I put it away or wait and reink it before I use it the next time?

I just go by if the image seems to be too light or is difficult to get a good image from.

And I would reink it before you use it the next time. However, when I reink I usually let it sit for 30 min to an hour before I use it.

Hope that helps!
