I just got my first set of Peachy Keen face stamps to use with my
doll dies. I really like the stamps, but I was a bit confused with the
policy posted on the back of the package. It says you are not
allowed to sell the stamps, new or used, on ebay.
How can they tell you what to do with something you buy????
I don't plan on selling them, but this pretty much irritated me.
If I buy something, I can sell it if I dang feel like it.
Garage sale, ebay, wherever I want!!
I never sell any of my stuff, but that would irritate me also. I could see them not wanting to have a business retailer to sell them but not an individual. I am not even sure that is legal.
It sounds like they want to ensure there is price control on their products and since they don't sell to online retailers, they want to avoid any situation where someone else will also do that an inflate their prices. It only states that you can't sell on Ebay, so I would assume you can sell to someone privately.
I was just looking at the stamps online. they are totally cute, but it does say you can't resell them on ebay. It says you can sell what you make on ebay. What a strange policy. I would be irritated too. They are sooo cute though, I think I might have to get some for my daughter for summer. That would occupy her all vacation long!
If I pay for something, I should be able to sell it however I see fit. They can't control me.
But how's this for hypocritical? Their website says they only sell to brick and mortar stores - not online stores yet they themselves are ONLY an online store "*Important to note that we are an online business only, this is not a store location."
Nope...not gonna support that - no matter how cute the stamps are!
I believe its probably because they sell on ebay. That's where I first found them on was ebay when i bought their little faces for the sizzix kids. I suppose they don't want competition on there?
Even still, this is the United States. It's a free market - competition is part of the way businesses thrive, improve and/or fail. Barring a signed contract (such as in the case with SU demos), illegal substances, etc., we are free to do what we want with items that we own.
I love their stamps and I don't have a problem with the no online sales policy. They are a small business where Kathy Jakopovich designs the stamps and her husband makes them. Personally, I wouldn't resell the stamps just because I think they're great and because I would prefer someone buy them directly from them. I like supporting the little guy even if it means I can't resell my used stamps on ebay. I'm sure I'll make more money making cards with them and selling those instead.
How they think they can enforce this I'll never know.
I just checked it out and only one of those auctions was not by the folks who own Peachy Keen stamps ... so it seems that most people must be abiding by their wishes.
I hadn't really ever given the buy/sell alot of thought ... until I was at a stamp convention not too long ago ... I was speaking with one of the stamp companies (who designs and manuf. their own stamps) and realized I had purchased on eBay a single stamp from one of her collections. Although the ones I had purchased were from someone re-selling them. I hadn't known it until I saw it.
Person A actually buys the stamps (at retail) from this Company, then resells the stamps individually on eBay. While it might be financially worthwile for her ... she actually sells the singles for WAY more than what the set sold for. While it may or may not be "legal" - it does actually undermine the owner of the company - who's intellectual property (the design and stamps) is being resold without any indication of who designed it, copyright, etc. I actually pretty much felt like an egghead ... I paid as much for one stamp from the eBay seller as what I could have paid for the whole collection from the actual company.
I think it undermines the market, as much as SU demos' who sell on eBay undermine the whole system. Just my 2cents.
On a different note, I met Kathy J. and her husband years ago at a Painting Convention and they were wonderfully friendly and personable! I love the peachy-keen stamps, they're easy to use and very durable!
