I just made a card with an alcohol-inked background. Would that be considered "clean and simple"? I want to put it in the Gallery, but I want to make sure that it's in the right category. Thanks for the help.
CAS is not so much about the technique used (or not used), but rather the design of the card. If you look at the CAS challenge thread (Mondays), Jen gives guidelines for CAS cards in her first post. Basically one focal point, few or no layers, lots of 'white' space, and minimal embellishments.
I see no problem using an alcohol inked background on a CAS card as long as the rest of it is pretty simple.
CAS is so subjective. I've seen cards with 4 or 5 layers labeled as CAS, but then if you usually put 12 layers on your card, you would probably consider 4 layers simple. If you think your card is CAS, by all means put CAS as a keyword!
Hope this was helpful and not confusing!

Yes, it was helpful. I think I'm going to upload it as a CAS. Thanks!
When I host my CAS card swaps I always say not to use any advanced techniques; although you can still use techniques to create a CAS card. I tell everyone to try and keep their cards simple, limit their layers, and to create their cards using a clean design and so that they would be easy to reproduce.
CAS is very subjective and this issue has come up several times before (in other threads). If you feel your card is CAS then I would say go ahead and label it as such. And be sure to post back here when you do, I'd love to see your card

I'll be honest with you (and this may be going slightly off-topic here) but I'm always a bit disappointed when I do a search for CAS or see some of the cards linked up to the CAS challenge threads. Some have 3 or 4 layers, lots going on (multiple focal points, techniques), etc.
Definitely not what I would consider clean and simple! Or am I the only one that has noticed this?

I noticed it as well, but I just figure that it might be CAS to the person who deisgned the card if they would normally use lots of layers and more difficult techniques, etc.

You're not the only one who has noticed. So far it seems to be tied to the awesome CAS challenges. I think they're drawing a larger group of SCS users to the little sub-community we have here. And I've noticed that as a group, CAS participants tend to leave great feedback on cards, place less importance on having the latest supplies, and share recognition through the CAS Favorites thread. Who wouldn't want to be a part of that?

I probably shouldn't even comment on this since I don't have a gallery or
even know how to upload my cards but I have noticed this also. Many
cards have layers, large bows, etc that don't seem to be CAS.
However, they are still lovely cards and I do enjoy them. Lots of talent
in the gallery!! My secret joy is to look at everyone's favorites on Sunday
and see how many of their favorites are my favorites.
