Default Price of rubber trebled in US?

Hey girls over her in the uk we have just been told by my nearest craft shop lady that the price of rubber stamps are going up, because the price of rubber in the US has trebled is this true? If so I think I am seriously going to have to find a new hobby!

I think she meant the price of rubber has Tripled (times 3). I have not heard this though.

I haven't heard this. By any off chance, lol, was this possibly something that was wondered out loud by a "clear" stamp seller? Hmmmm. Food for thought indeed.....

The lady in my local rubber stamp shop has a new line of stamps (B Line) by a Bob & Beverly Seymour from the US and they told Linda who owns the shop we have got to put our prices up because the price of rubber has trebled over here in America.

Sorry, but I've heard nothing of this either. In fact, even though I'm don't buy many stamps other that SU, I've never heard of B Line and I can't get much information to come up in my search engine. I wouldn't worry too much about it at this time because there wasn't a big across the board increase in any SU prices and the other sites I do ocassionally peruse don't seem all that much higher either. The price of shipping, etc. might have tripled though. (Dang those pesky fuel costs.) But, your hobby is probably safe for now. ;)

I just checked with a norwegian store, and they have no plans to put up the prices of stamps. No one has heard of prices trebling here.... That was weird that your shop told you so. (I would guess that rubber had a pretty stabile price, and not like oil, up and down by the minute...lol)

I've bought some B-Line stamps. Here's a link on their site about a price increase of $1.80 per stamp but it doesn't say why.

Look under "pricing"

Well, I've not heard of anything like that either! I'll be seeing my Brother tomorrow and he works for Cooper Rubber here in the US, I'll ask him if he knows anything about it.

Default Partly true...

Looked on Google News for "rubber price" and got lots of hits. Evidently the commodity price of rubber had dropped way down in the spring and now it's going back up.
Natural rubber, which ranks as the worst commodity investment since May, is poised to recover on accelerating demand from China and rising oil prices.
``Rubber may well have bottomed,'' said Michael Coleman, managing director at Aisling Analytics in Singapore, who helps run a $450 million commodity hedge fund that gained 31 percent through October. ``Prices may rise on robust Chinese growth.''

IMHO some of the companies that were selling rubber material to manufacturers (tires, stamps, girdles??? LOL) probably never dropped their prices when they should have, but now will raise the price "due to increases in China". Just like the price of coffee... when it goes down in Brazil it stays the same in the USA, but let it go up by 1 in Brazil and wholesalers will raise it $1 in our stores. (Done venting. I feel better now.)

IMO, most UK craft retailers seem determined to rip us off because we don't know any better and we're just grateful to be able to get hold of anything at all! I do think many of them are just cashing in. :( As craft supplies become more readily available, I hope this will be reflected in lower prices.

Thanks - prices are usually the same, but in pounds. So, with the two-dollar pound, that means we're paying double for everything! :(
