I would say it could be similar to any card for a loss..

(found these on a site)

Our deepest sympathies during your time of loss.
Please know that we are here for you.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
We are sorry for your loss.

and/or a copy of
Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

There are some verses printed in the the thread PET LOSS POEM in the NEED A LIFT forum - a search should pull that thread up - I try to bump it every few weeks...

I found this awhile back and have used it for friends that have lost pets. I include a copy of the rainbow bridge as well.

In Memory of a Special Pet
With tears of grief and heavy hearts
we said goodbye to you.
Animal friends as sweet as you,
have been a precious few.

You stayed with us
and played with us
and gave us all your love.
Now we give the gift of peace to you
and thank our Lord above
for all the years you joined our family
with your patient, gentle face.
We'll always keep you in our hearts
in a very special place.

All the memories you made with us
are surely here to stay,
for what love has already given us
death could never take away.

I've posted this before on SC but can't find the link right now. It's one I've used unfortunately too many times. My thoughts go out to your family member I know how painful it is to lose a pet.

With Sympathy,
in the loss of you pet~

They will not go quietly,
the pets whove shared our lives
In subtle ways they let us know
their spirit still survives.

Old habits still can make us think
we hear them at the door
Or step back when
we drop a tasty morsel on the floor.

Or feet still go around the place
the food dish used to be,
And, sometimes, coming home at night,
we miss them terribly.

And although time may bring new friends
and a new food dish to fill,
That one place in our hearts belongs to them
and always will.

this is my favorite!

Really though, anything you would normally say would work in this situation. Human or pet.

Any heartfelt offer of condolences will be appreciated. Folr those of us attached to our beloved pets; their loss is equal to any other loss. We feel it deeply; and we are touched at those who acknowldge our loss with cards or offers of condolences.
