Default A no waste criss cross fold!!!

I love these criss cross cards but I hated the waste so I figured out a way to fold it so there is no waste AND no glue at the bottom to get in the way of the insert. Just another take on the other great folds out there!

Since I don't have a blog, I thought you might like the info here;).
  1. cut your cardstock as usual using a half sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 paper
  2. fold like you're making a regular landscaped card
  3. hold it with the fold at the bottom
  4. cut a diagonal line (you can use your cutter once you figure it out, but I want you to visualize what is being cut) that runs from the top left hand corner of the "front" of the card down to the bottom right hand corner. This will cut off a triangle.
  5. flip the loose triangle upside down (so the 90% angle is at the bottom) and slide it in place on the right hand side of the card
  6. glue the far right and far left sides of the card (you don't need to glue the bottom of the triangle down because it is now resting in the fold and you don't want glue getting in the way of your insert.
  7. create an insert and embellish as usual

Here's a card using this fold.

You are a GENIUS! I haven't shown these to my customers because of the waste, and you solved that problem for me. Thanks again and again for sharing!

I had just decided today to try my hand at making a criss-cross card. Your way of making the card makes so much sense. I hate to waste paper so this was perfect for me. Thanks for sharing.

I went to make up another card like the one I linked at the top (...after all, coming up with the design is the hardest part;)), and I realized I should share my tip on not wasting DP to embellish the criss cross part:mrgreen:.

I cut two identical rectangles out of the same DP, 5 1/8" x 3 3/4". Then I cut one diagonally from the top right hand corner to the bottom left hand corner and the other from the top left hand corner to the right.

This will leave you with two sets of triangles (four triangles all together). Use the left from the first and the right from the second set to cover one card base, these triangles will fit on top of the criss cross with room around each one. Then use the other two triangles (flipped around) to go with a second card.

The reason you have to do two is that you cannot get the angles to line up from one piece cut diagonally:( (unless you don't mind two different sides of the DP showing on the top).

Yep, you'll just have to make two criss cross cards, but hey, waste not want not! If you're prepping for a workshop, just prep for an even number and you'll be fine.

I just snapped some quick pics to illustrate.

One question, the measurements you gave for the DP, will that leave the cute little border of the base CS?
Thanks.

Yes, those measurements allow for the space around the triangle to let the cardstock show as a border !

I have the tutorial for this on my blog as well: http://paperpleasing.typepad.com/my_...cross-col.html

I have measurements and everything, so it will be easy to follow.

Here is a newer version I made, as well.
