Does it bother you when people do not have a picture of themselves up on the site or their blogs? I guess I am getting cynical in my old age.. Just wondering if any one else feels the same.

Nah. I just caught a pic of the lady whose blog I have read for months and I was surprised- not how I pictured her, lol. I used to have a picture from when I was a babe on my website, I put it on after I got emails to add a picture, so obviously people do feel like you!
...sorry, no., You'll see that my treble clef and I are still together. I have no problem with anonimity and I'll tell you why.
Out of deference for my DH who is irrational even about his approach to the internet. He is very private and wary. We do nothing financial online (where anyone would be able to see a credit card number, in his opinion) He is not trusting of the world wide web so I keep myself as private as I can and still be able to have some fun.
That being said, I like to see what you all look like, and I like that you feel able to show your pictures.
I post at several forums and I have my picture as my avatar. The reason I don't here because this is the one I had first and it's familiar. It does not bother me. I had a bad stalking case a few years ago so there was no way I was going to post my pic. Since I have been online I love to post at boards. I love all the things I learn and the friendships I have made. It kept me sane during those horrible times when I had to always "hide".
I still do have to hide but not like in the "old" days. I guess what I am trying to say with all my babbling that I get why a lot of people don't show their pics. Most of the time it's safety concerns.
On blogger I use a picture of my Beagle. On Facebook right now I am using a rear view of an Amish buggy with some handmade baskets. (I snapped that photo on a recent trip home. LOL)
I am the one ALWAYS behind the camera, so I have few pics of myself.

The reason I do have a problem...There are times people email me asking me for things,, I noticed they have no pictures up in the gallery, and few comments. I guess it is safety on both ends, I want a face to those who email me.

Well, like one of the above posters said, I am 99% of the time the person behind the camera and have very few pictures of myself...and I'm not sure anyone wants to see my face anyway. LOL. I have been thinking about putting one up though. I guess it doesn't bother me because I know that some people don't know how to do it, some don't want to for whatever reason, and possibly some like me might just not have the time to dig to find a picture to post. :P Now I'm going to have to go see if I can even FIND one of me (and one that's NOT from when I was in the hospital having my daughter...)
Ok, in case you didn't nice (teehee) I actually found one from Mother's Day this year that I had forgotten about. :P

I wouldn't say it bothers me, because I understand the safety thing. My reason was (I do have a pic now) was I also was behind the camera and I hate all the pictures of me. So when this picture of me and my niece and nephews was taken, I decided I can't hate this picture, since they are in it. LOL. I figure people will be looking at the adorable kids more than me.
I have pictures of me and my family on Facebook along with a tribute video for my sister. That's the only place I have anything anymore. Shoot I can't get around to uploading my cards and stuff here so getting a picture up isn't in the works. I know how to do it. Just too lazy I guess.

I do not like having my picture taken and tend to hide behind others when cameras come out. I don't refuse when someone wants to take a picture, but I would rather avoid it.
I can understand why someone would think I don't really participate in papercrafting and not want to respond to my posts or PMs. On splitcoast, I don't post that much but I do if someone is looking for something and I can help. I don't have a gallery because most of what I do has probably been done before just in different colors or stamps.
It sounds like I have a confidence problem doesn't it? I really don't. I'm a great math teacher and play a decent clarinet in a community band!

Reason: spelling
I love to see pictures of the ladies here..but I also understand not wanting to put a picture up if you want your privacy...who knows.....there are many reasons one might not want a picture up. My son calls my picture a hot modeling pic because the wind was blowing my hair when it was taken. We were in Maui at the Grand Wailea Hotel that week.
blessings.
I am fine with posting my photo as my avatar and on my blog. I, however, understand if people don't want that much info out there on the internet. I don't talk about where I live and am vague if someone asks me. I have young children and my concern is for them. I don't post their names or photos online (I have posted a few layouts with photos of them, but I always resize so they are pretty small). Too many weirdos out there. I see lots of photos of kids on facebook, but I don't trust facebook (things are constantly hacked on that site) and would never post my kids' photos there. We all have different comfort levels, I guess.
I never really thought about it, and don't remember why I didn't do it when I signed up. Sigh. Guess I'll have to go figure out how to do it, because now that you mention it, I like seeing people's pictures and guess that y'all should be able to see me if you want.
I'm usually behind the camera also. I think it would be a case of 'You broke the camera!!" if I get caught in front of one.. lol i'm just too ugly to take a pic!!! lol interesting thread!
I don't put a picture up. I don't have a problem with people who do or don't post a picture. I don't do a lot of emailing to people privately so it doesn't matter what they look like. I don't think that a picture proves their character. I'll be 76 next month and I have made some friends through the internet, and haven't met them face to face.......... I really don't see what is so important............ JMHO LOL
(at my age I'm entitled to my opinion)
It doesn't bother me at all. I have more important things to worry about than whether or not someone posts her photo, has a gallery, or has a lot of posts. None of these affect whether or not I trust someone. By the way, I think everyone is entitled to an opinion, no matter what his/her age. ;)
it doesn't bother me. I think it is funny that i see people as the picture they do post when it isn't them. I identify them with it. So one poster will forever be Valdamor even though I have met her in person and she is beautiful.
I don't put mine up because I am fat and hate the way I look right now. I will if the skinny person ever comes back out.

me too. I'm not concerned that people don't put a picture of themselves up. I chose the avatar I have as a representation of me and/or my online name. I understand some people like to know what the person looks like they are talking to, but for me it makes it kind of fun to picture the person in your head. I always get some sort of cross between what their avatar represents and what I think they might look like.
Doesn't bother me either way - I like seeing photos, but I like my privacy so I understand if other people do too. Mine is there in my profile, but not everyone gets to see it there.
yah i like it when people post pictures of themselves because uh... umm.. I guess I'm nosey! I want to see WHO this person is that creates all of this awesome stuff!!
I post only FLATTERING pictures of myself (as flattering as they can be, at least) because I know that some people are curious about me too.. My current avatar is one of my wedding photos from last summer!

Sometimes I wonder what a person might look like but it doesn't really bother me either way if they have a picture of their face as their avatar or not. i like to think that most people that have some sort of avatar are saying a little something about themselves by way of displaying a photo of something they are interested in.
Mine for instance is a graphic of a tattoo that I like and might get someday. I also LOVE butterflies and have a butterfly tattoo on my shoulder. Someday I might put a picture of myself as my avatar but only when someone can get a reasonably flattering photo of me ;-)
So I pretty much think "To each their own"

Since I am the official "mammarazzi" of the house, there are not a lot of photos of me. Of those that exist, there are very few I like enough to post online. In addition, I am a bit lazy when it comes to things like updating profiles and uploading pictures of myself.
I love seeing all the different avatars, even if they are images and not photos. I guess I should find one for myself.
My SCS pic...is my beagle she is much more adorable than I am.
My bog...I do have a pic of myself...can you say dated.
FB...I have a picture of a light house that I took that looks gorgeous and I hope is an inpsiration to my friends and family.
I am behind the camera 99% of the time as well and can not manage to take a good self portrait for nothing
It is nice to see what people really look like but does not bother me not to see an actual photo.
Have you seen that corgi over there? I mean, who wouldn't want that as that avatar?
I don't mind if people have a pic posted or not. What really confuses me is when people change their avatar. I guess I'm quite visual so it takes a few weeks to make the connection that "girl with cat" is the same person as "fall leaves."

Hello fellow math teacher! 2 days left for me...howsabout you?
It doesn't bother me, either. I only recently put up a real picture, and it's so small that you can't really see me. My Facebook account has a true picture. I don't have any children, but if I did, I would never post their picture anywhere on the Internet.

Fun thread. I use this picture because you can't really see how awful I look in pictures. LOL. To me the picture just points out that I'm a country girl.

Zero days for me! I am retired!! I still consider myself a teacher. I tutor some of the neighborhood kids now and probably have about 8 more sessions getting ready for final exams. Our schools used to get out right at Memorial Day but now I think it is June 11. The state decided they didn't want anyone starting school as early as we did back then.
I enjoy seeing all the pictures. But I am barely computer literate and wouldn't know how and afraid to figure it out. I just learned how all of you comment here at SCS. My childred (all grown and out of the house) help me sometimes but I don't want to ask about everything because then they will think I don't know anything! I'm going to have my 6 year old grandson teach me!!!!!
I obviously don't mind (since I don't have my pic posted) and I'll tell you why. We had to move from our old house because the man next door raped my daughter. I no longer have my phone number listed, don't have my name on my mailbox and don't have pics anywhere online where he can find and follow us. I'm very cautious about what I reveal online, be it here on this forum, on the quilting forum I'm involved in or on my Facebook page. I have the highest privacy settings on that and have asked my friends not to ID me on any photos. Maybe I'm a bit paranoid, but I NEVER want to go through anything like that again.
That said, I do like seeing everyone else's beautiful faces :-D
I never really thought about it at all, except maybe that I'm surprised at how many people do share their pictures online in general. I've sent cards to quite a few gals from SCS and never thought about their avatars at all.
