Arrow mini composition book mass production

I've had so many questions about these that I thought I'd post here!
(((I really wish I had time to blog!)))**heavy sigh***

My friends and I were able to make 90 mini books from only 2 packs of SU Designer Paper !
Give Thanks Minis
All 90 Mini Comps

How, you ask???? :confused:Well, the trick is in the cutting and measuring!
(If I hadn't messed up a sheet or two we could have made 96).

We bought the mini comp books at Family Dollar Store for 3/$1 (US). If you don't have one near you, they are at Staples 2/$1. They also have them at Wally's but those are a bit thicker and are $1 each.

Measurements:

-each cover is 4 1/2 x 3. (The 3" side is a bit too wide but I left it that way to allow extra to trim off even with the edge.)

* be sure to measure your mini composition books to make sure they are the same size
**the grid attached is not to scale, it's just to show the layout for maximum use of the sheet of paper

-each "spine" is 1 1/2"x 4 1/2".

1. Use Scotch Brand Quick Dry Adhesive or SU gluestick to cover each piece of DP as you go (you can use modge podge if you can stand the mess)
2. adhere the spine*, centered to cover the black spine of the notebook (*do this first so your covers line up perfectly)
3. line the front cover up to the edge of the "new" spine and make sure the top and bottom are even with the edge of the notebook
4. repeat with the bottom cover
5. trim the excess off the front and back covers
6. tie a ribbon around the notebook at the seam if desired
7. embellish however!
8. cut the 3" x 3" left over pieces and cut into 1"x3" strips, wrap around a dowel rod, stuff inside the barrel of RSVP brand pens

That's it.. hope you make some! ;)

These are just spectacutar. I have to admit, when I make my mini books, I never cover the spine, just keep the black and tie on ribbon, but your pictures show that covering the spine really makes a difference. I love the sentiment you used....perfect for Thanksgiving and the upcoming holidays. TFS!

Default Absolutely LOVE IT!!!

Thanks so much for the pics. I had a friend give me one a few years back, but never got around to actually making some myself. With this renewed inspiration, I think this very well may be next on my list of projects to do!

I was trying so think of something small I could make my sisters for our annual sister dinner (they always expect something handmade! lol) and I think these are perfect! They could be used for so many different things! I have made them in the past but thanks so much for the info on how to do it with the smallest amount of paper!!!

Wow...what a lot of work, but great results. I'm sure they were so appreciated. Having cool matching pen just 'makes' it. Great job and thanks for sharing.

Just had to thank you SOOO much for posting this idea!!!

I'm doing a "Thankful Journal" for all the members of my family (Mom, Dad, 5 Sisters/their Hubbies) because of your inspiration!

I gathered almost all the needed materials and have played with some ideas, but don't have a finished project to post yet. I will when I'm done.

Thanks again Lynn!!

Wow, this is great! I have had plans to alter some mini composition books I bought awhile ago but haven't taken the time to work on them. Your instructions, details and pictures will be a huge help to me. I can't wait to give this a try... thank you so much, Lynn!

WOW!! That is great that you got 90 out of 2 sheets of paper!! I did these at my annual Santa's Workshop with the pen and a paperclip bookmark. I cover my spine after I put the cardstock on the covers. I like the look of the *new* spine! These are a fun and cheap gift to give that's for sure!!

I also cover the inside of the covers. Why? Because I can put in a loop of ribbon under each and off-set the ribbons slightly so the mini PEN will slide into each loop, thereby locking the book closed when not in use. Mini RSVP pens are available at Staples.

...I wish I could get that out of 2 sheets of paper!!!!

Even I can't do that. ;) I did get 90 out of two packs of SU's designer paper (12 sheets, 2 of each design).

Yep that looks like the little mini compostion books I bought but mine have very think covers. Paper was not enough so I had to add some cardboard like from food boxes. I covered one with just paper and it curled but then again I did use white glue.

Now I'm thinking the small left over square could make a nice little note card to give these as a gift.
