Masculine Cards
Hello Stampers,
I was wondering what you folks do when it comes to cards for boys and gentlemen. It seems so many stamp sets are really designed for females. I use SU almost exclusively, but they have so many flowery sets. Thoughts?

SU has a lighthouse stamp that I use for men. The new stamp with the bear and racoon is great for men. I know they are difficult to stamp for but some of the ones with other critters are cute too. Yea, I wish SU would do more stamps in this catagory. We have way too many flowers.

Hi,
Here is a card I made that I think can be used as a masculine card. The tree set is nice and classic. Here's the link to it...

I just love Bronc Buster and Wanted. Or In The Wild, which is retired, but still a wonderful set to use for guy cards

Lovely as a Tree is one of my fave masculine sets.

Hello,
I used the Stampin Up Winds of Grace set for my last card which you can see by clicking on my "husband" signature below. I really thought I was just making a card that would be good for someone retiring or going on a trip. My wife had other thoughts. She said in her customer newsletter "The Winds of Grace set is so nice to have on hand for men and boys' cards".
I just gravitated towards the stamp set naturally and was not thinking it was a masculine set.

I love "Lovely as a Tree" for masculine cards. That set is so danged versatile! I'm glad I bought it ages ago!
I have some other older sets that I use, too. Fishin' and Classic Convertibles, but I'm sure that doesn't really help, does it?
Have you done a search for masculine cards? I've gotten lots of great ideas using sets I wouldn't have thought of using at all!

Today is actually my husband's birthday so I had to think about this as well!
He's not much of a nature guy, so I went with Guide Lines from PTI..

I think just about any type of animal will work for masculine. Or anything tree related (leaves or the whole tree). Lighthouses, sailboats, or anything transportation related works as well. Or if they have a hobby (hunting, fishing, golfing, etc.) those are all good choices as well.
I enjoy making cards for my male friends. More often than not, it's a "critter" stamp just because I really like animals. But I've also done leaves, lighthouses, golf, etc. Here are some I did recently that could be adapted.
This uses some SU stamps...and can easily be adapted to all SU if you had a leaf set from SU.

I use a lot of nautical stamps for my men stamps, mostly they are for my father and I know that he loves that. Sailboats, sandollars, lighthouses are a few I have used in the past.
I know a lot of people use the Noble Deer or other similar deer/outdoorsy kind of thing for men cards.
I can't remember if we have or have ever had a golf set but I would imagine that would be popular to use.

If you want masculine...go to the source...I'm a man. (just teasin')
I make my own stamps, I hand carve them. I tend to carve images I like.
You could check out my blog, I have a slideshow there that has some of the images I have carved, maybe you would get some ideas from the stuff I like.

Check out the stamp set Classic Convertibles in the gallery. Use it for my 24 yr old son as well as husband sometimes. We have a little 2001 Z3 so the MG convertible is close enough for us!

One of my favourite stampers - Mary Fish aka PetalPusher has a very good collection of Masculine Cards. I always refer to her gallery all the time for Masculine cards,

I had the same problem, so I just got Wanted and Lovely as a Tree for all the masculine card needs we have.

Oh I forgot to mention the "coffee" sets too!
Like it a latte......Pun Fun has a coffee cup in it...that is good.
I've use that and put in a gift card for a coffee shop. Worked out well.

The new upsy daisy set even though has flowers in it - kinds of works good for masculine cards if you stamp it using say blue on blue and used lots of blue / dark colors.

I like to use frogs and monkeys for more whimsical male cards. My favorite set for grown up little boys is retired, Set Sail.

I like the Bronco Buster and Wanted sets. I recently discovered Inspired by Nature set at a SU workshop. We used the "grass" for Tules. My dad loved it!!  Cant wait to acquire the "under the stars" set!!

It's even harder here for us in Australia as you seem to get more masculine stamps than we do in the Stampin' Up catalogue. We just have the Loads of Love, Wanted, Bronc Buster, Seaworthy & Seaside (if they like sea shells).
You have some wonderful ones that I would love to see over here, like the Nature Silhouettes, that would be fantastic for some masculine cards & from what I have seen of some clever people in the gallery they have done some clever & wonderful things with this set. I am just so jealous.:(

I think it's in the colors and as long as it's not a flowery stamp set, it can work for men.

I'd give it to a guy and the little bit of pink on the buttons just gives it a little me touch I only give cards, masculine cards, to my hubby, dad and father-in-law so they all will love it. The other men, they get a store bought card... one out of the 20 packs I have... since they won't appreciate a home made one. It'll just end up in the trash a few days after they receive it. That's a good idea I usually use SU Lovely as a Tree or Loads of Love. Shapes are good too. I've been using SU Simply Circles.

I just use more manly type colors. Mostly blues, greens, browns or just about any color from the SU Earth Elements. The father's day mini album I made for my hubby had some flowers in it but he didn't even notice because of the color scheme. Peggy |

I have to make a lot of masculine cards. When I make them I always put them in my gallery and I add "masculine" to the key words. I am sure if you searched the SCS gallery for "masculine" cards, you would find a lot more than just mine. Good luck.

I love the flowers but have 3 boys and they just don't appreciate flowery stuff like I do. So I generally go with Winds of Grace, A Light Unto my Path or Lovely as a Tree (also have wanted but it is a bit too cowboy-ish for me) for the current sets and I adore Changing Seasons (the old covered bridge set) and Coast to Coast (my personal all time fav...the lighthouse set) for the male cards
But with the mention of golf sets and the tall grass from Inspired by Nature...I am thinking how fun would it be to combine the two? Every duffer's nightmare...golf balls lost in the tall grass ! lol! Jan
