I'm feeling dumb here, but I need to mail some 12X12 paper and a stamp set to someone but realized I don't have an envelope large enough, and even if I buy one, how do I keep the paper from getting smashed?
Cut a piece of corrugated cardboard large enough to accommodate the 12x12 paper pack, put the stamp set in a bubble mailer, and then slip everything into one of the Tyvek mailers for Priority Mail. You can tape down any excess from the Tyvek mailer so that the paper doesn't shift around in transit.

Or maybe, if you let it air out, you could use one you had pizza in, but I don't know about that.
Even if you let it air out to try and remove the pizza odor, you still have the grease spots on the inside to deal with. As much as I like to "recycle" whenever possible, I'd use a fresh new one in this case.

Just go to your local post office and get a mailing box...the priority one. It fits the that size paper perfectly with a little room extra. The boxes are free but will have to play for the priority service and the weight! When I mail paper to my sister in Colorado, its never over $10. Good luck!

Having received 12x12 paper in both envelopes and pizza boxes, my feeling is that it tends to arrive in perfect condition in the boxes, but occasionally with slightly rubbed edges in envelopes. Just thought I'd say that in case it helps you decide.
My sweet hubby takes any box he can get his hands on and makes me a mailer out of it. HE is pretty amazing. In a pinch (also I think probably illegeal...lol) he takes a priority box and turns it inside out and cuts it to size. Then wrap in brown paper (rolls are pretty cheap at Walmart) and you have a nice box to mail paper in. Blessings.

RANDOM INFORMATION HERE
Did everyone know that if you asked for your pizza to be put on aluminium foil that it eliminates the grease spots which also prevents you from recycling this type of card and apparently keep your pizza warmer and the foil can be washed and reused/recycled. ;)

You have to be careful about that. I used to do a lot of selling on ebay a few years ago and sold quite a few videos. I never seemed to have the appropriate box size, but the post office had the priority mailers that perfectly fit the videos. So I took a bunch home, turned them inside out and covered them with kraft paper. Pretty soon, they caught on and asked me if that's what I was doing. They told me that if I tried to ship the items, they had the right to open the package (can't remember by which law/rule) and examine the container and contents. And if they found that I was using thier priority boxes for non-priority mail there would be a huge fine. I took all my boxes home and never tried that again.

I have to second this. I'm a member of a scrapbook kit club. I get 4 kits (without 5-6 pieces of paper per kit) and embellishments and they are mailed to me in a priority box. The postage on the box varies slightly, but it's usually around $5.50 - $6. And it comes to me perfectly and crumple free.

USPS has wised up to people doing this and now prints Priority Mail on the inside of the boxes now... I have heard of someone doing this and the PO made them pay priority rates...
I just mailed some 12x12 pages and protectors to a gal, and I couldn't find an envelope big enough either. I took a few big pieces of thick cardboard (I got them from scrapbooks I bought at Wal-mart- they come in them), put my stuff in between them, and then used packing tape to stick them together (in a couple of places, the paper was threatening to stick, so I just crumpled up a sheet of typing paper, stuck it in between the paper and the tape, and it was fixed!). Then, I wrapped it in wrapping paper, using the non-printed side which was white.

Even if you wrap the box in brown paper, those box sizes are very distinctive and postal employees can recognize them even if they're wrapped. Misuse of Priority Mail materials has resulted in crackdowns such as the one at my local post office, where they don't even get rolls of that printed tape anymore! They also get very few of each size box. If people continue to steal these mailing materials (and yes, it IS stealing if you're not paying Priority Mail rates to ship your package), we may start seeing a charge for using them on top of the postage fee. These boxes are NOT "free" -- their cost is currently built into the price of the service.

I bought plain pizza boxes from a local pizza restaurant and they were nice enough to sell them to me at their cost! You might check some stores in your area.

You know I understand that completely - what I don't understand is not allowing them to be "recycled" and reused once they have been used to go through the system.
