Default Large cards - have you made them other than invites?

I have a bunch of envelopes left over from making invites for my niece and thought I would use them for special Christmas cards (10 or so) for those handful of people special in my life.

Anyone done this large a card before? I am enclosing photos or incorporating them into the card. The card will be the size of an 8/12 x 11 sheet c/s folded in half. I guess that makes it 5.5 x 8.5 then.

I am so used to doing the A2 size cards I am kind of laughing at the size, such a big "canvas" to work with. Any in anybody's gallery to see?

Wow Shannan... that's gorgeous.
I have not made any quite as big as you need, but I have a couple of rubber stamps that seem to "require" a larger card. Here is one I did last year for a "Large Card Swap." Golden Grapes Size is 5 by 7.75

I have been at a couple of small craft sales where a vendor or two had only 8.5 x 11 cards. They seemed pretty popular. And of course if you go to the card store there are tons of large cards (with equally large price tags). I know that before I started making my own dh - and others- sort of felt like one was being cheap if the purchased cards was not a super sized one. So I would say go for it!

Attached is a larger card I made for my DD that has a layout using a photo (she's a photographer and took the self portrait). Although I didn't use stamps, the layout could easily be done using background stamps for the paper and decorative stamps instead of the epoxy stickers. I'm pretty sure I used a full sheet of CS folded in half but there's a chance it could be 5x7. Sorry I can't remember. Guess I should start making notes of the sizes of my cards.

For more large cards, here's a link to my gallery:

The Copper Butterfly cards show the difference between a full sheet of CS folded in half and a 5x7. (These were when I first started stamping and I hate the fiber and the strips of paper on the bottom - I use ribbon now.)

Beauty and the Butterfly is a half-fold size, too, either that or 5x7.

5x7s - Bud Basics Shabby Velvet and I think Cute & Screwy Birthday Truck is too. (I really am going to start including sizes, sheesh!)

HTH. Enjoy making your special Christmas cards.

Yes, I make large cards sometimes. I usually make them for work, since there's more room for co-workers to sign their names. I have 6 Christmas cards and 3 Boss's Day cards in my gallery. The large cards that I made were aprox. 7 3/4" x 5 1/4". The large cards are more of a challenge, like you said, since there's more "canvas" to work with.

This is the one and only large card I have ever made. It was for a girl who worked with us part time while she finished high school. It was really fun to do the bigger card.
