my wheels. I don't love my wheels. I rarely use them and when I do I remember why. It's got nothing to do with the design on the wheel but just the way it gets used. I rather own more BG stamps than wheels.
Anyone else not a "wheelie" person? I am keeping them just because ... ya never know. But for now.. they are lonely.
I'm with you on that one, girlfriend. I have scads of wheels and very rarely used them. But I still have a hard time parting with them. What's a girl to do?

No. You put some kind of removable adhesive on them and slap them on an acrylic block. If you never do scrapbook borders or wrapping paper with wheels and only want to do a 6" strip or shorter, this is the way to go!
how would i go about unmounting them? it's a good idea. i hate using the ink cartridges, and generally don't use my wheels cause they never ink correctly.

I recently used my rough edges wheels on some cards and it was so quick and easy. I think I will be using more of my wheels now. I also like the idea of unmounting them. That would work great for cards.

I am the same way, I RARELY use mine. In fact I kind of forget about them and I think with all the beautiful DP out now, it is easier to use the papers. But, I also am hanging on to them cuz ya just never know!:-D
I gave my wheels away before I the idea of unmounting them came up. I rarely used them because I couldn't roll them straight... even with the help of the wheel guide. ;)
I had a ton of wheels and gave them away to my sisters. I only kept one, Bold snowflakes, then I unmounted it, I used a craft knife at the seem and peeled it off. I kept like that as is for a while, then cut it up into individual images and now its like a mini stamp set and I used it a lot that way.

I love the wheel designs. But I have to agree with you guys - I don't use them nearly as much as I could or as I would like to. Nothing beats a wooden block, I guess...
I've unmounted two of them to try it out, but I didn't use them more. (Maybe even less, if that's possible.) I'm really not into unmounted stamps, so I think that's why. It does produce a very lengthy stripe, so maybe cutting the design into so smaller bits would be a wise suggestion. (I unmounted the Alphabet wheel and the Christmas Globes one.)

I second that. I unmounted mine and use them more often. I did not want to invest in lots of cartridges to have each color and they were a pain to line up. I unmounted mine and had my boyfriend make me an acrylic block the right size to use them. I like using them now.
I like my wheels un-mounted and use them often. I am trying to find a way to use up the cartridges I purchased to use with the wheels. A bit awkward to use them as a stamp pad, but that's the only thing I can find to do with them.
I haven't used a wheel yet. I was thinking of getting one at some point, now I think I may hold off. Maybe my demo will let me play with one one day to see what it's like.
Can they be used with regular ink pads? I wasn't interested in getting a wheel ink pad.
I think a lot of people are wheelie :rolleyes: into them anymore. However, I personally am still head over heels in love with my massive wheel collection.
I was really scared to take the scalpel (aka Xacto knife) to my first wheel, but it was so easy! Just cut it right at the seem, and the rest of the rubber sorta falls off by itself--or at least comes off very easily. Makes them MUCH more USE-able. ;-)

I agree with unmounting them. I unmounted all of mine and sold the cartridges and handles (one reg and one wide) on ebay. I cut some of the images apart to make an entire stamp set, such as the millinery wheel. Now I have a whole set of cute hats! The ones that I left in one piece are so easy to stamp a border with - nice and straight and even!
I still like my wheels -- I love making coordinated gift ensembles with them -- a bag, tissue and matching card in no time flat. It's so easy! Especially when I use my wheel guide!
I unmounted my wheels, trimmed them, put EZ Mount on the back and LOVE IT! I bought a 7" acrylic block and now I use them. I never touched them because I counldn't get them straight. It is so easy to do.
Since unmounting them seems to be the way to go for wheel haters (I'm on the fence as to whether I love em or hate em) I'm wondering what can be done with the wheel then? I know someone very creative will come up with something great!
I'm not a wheel person, either. I should unmount mine. I like the look, it's just not my thing to do. And after a few years of them sitting around, I don't think it ever will be my thing!

This is what I like to do as well (along with a little matching gift card on the bag) and it is surprising how many comments I get on the cards, etc. that I make with the wheels! I use a regular ink pad with my wheels, clean up is so much easier.
What a great thread! I never bought wheels 'cause I hated using them at my demo's house. But then I read a previous thread about unmounting them and thought, hey, what a great idea! So I bought the Whimsy wheel and LOVE IT UM! Never thought about cutting them up, though, and that's awesome. What an affordable way to get a stamp set. Off to scope the catty for wheels to cut up....
I didn't use mine much either and then one just would NOT wheel straight. When I decided to unmount it and I looked for the seam I discovered that it wasn't even so of course it didn't wheel straight!
I just take an X-acto blade and slit through the seam. The wheels always peel off super easily. Then I mount them on EZmount and use them with an acrylic block.
A lot of people don't like to use EZmount for all of their unmounting because it gets pricey, but you can line those "un-wheels" up right next to eachother and there's virtually no waste so it's a good value for wheels. I'll also use Tack'n'Peel on an acrylic block for any bare rubber stamps/wheels.
Now I'm wondering if I have some that are suitable for cutting into separate pieces! The one with the cabin and moose etc. (matches Pines, I think) is the perfect candidate! Thanks for the idea
I think I need to unmount my wheels. They are just collecting dust, along with the guide. After reading all these comments, I have to give it a try. Thanks everyone for the great ideas.

I wish the gallery had its own section heading for wheel samples and its own section for alphabets. I have lots of wheels and alphas, but do not use these stamps enough.

I'm so glad I could help you get your wheels out of a rut (tee hee hee ).
There isn't a special gallery for wheels and alphas, but each wheel and alpha typically has its own gallery that you can check out. You can also search the whole gallery using the name of the wheel or alphabet as a keyword. And you can use the gallery using just the word "wheel". The SCS galery really is a fantastic resource!
I just don't love them anymore....
