i bought a cropodile, but now don't know what i can do with it
I did see the little keychain post it pad thingee's, I made some of them, but what else can you do besides those and eyelets. Someone said thru tin, but what would I get for tin to use? Any need tutorials on what this baby can do would be great!!!

Sorry, I don't have a link or a picture, but I have seen little tin buckets punched around the top edge, ribbon threaded through (over, under, over, etc.). Also Altoides type tins with a punch on unhinged side, ribbon threaded through & knotted. Makes a "handle" for a purse, if you can visualize what I'm trying to describe... The front and back were altered, it was very cute. Note cards, a small treat, or mini-scrapbook inside.
I've done chipboard projects & punched the chipboard, either to put snap rings through, or brads, or ribbon.
I'm subscribing because I bought one of these when it was half off at Frugalities. Now I don't know what to do with it. It is definitely my least used tool! I can't set a rounded top brad without smooshing it.
The CAD is an awesome tool.. my husband says it looks like some ancient torture device! Besides setting eyelets, punching holes for them ~ you can emboss with it.. punch holes in leather, tin, wood.. we have punched holes on two leather belts when we needed a hole closer it.. yeah! and a couple of weeks ago we made a golf towel for my hubby with a big eyelet.. worked like a charm. There really are lots of ideas of how to use this tool.. you might start on the WeRMemories.. I think that's the company name.. their website will probably have lots of ideas.. and there are many here on SCS.

It is ace for punching felt. I've mostly done that for making little bags and purses for a small girl to sew up. I got serious blisters with my old leather punch but the CAD was a doddle, so easy. CDs, if you are into scrapping and wanted to make a CD album.
I agree, though, you have to be careful not to press TOO hard with some things or it squishes them, less is more. I used a good few snaps in colours I didn't like for practice, LOL.
I love my CAD, too! It's also good for making your own designed cardstock - like Bazzill sells a pack of 12 for a pretty expensive price ... I took out my CAD and punched my own designs into regular cardstock and voila! Worked like a charm!
My CAD is probably my favorite tool, ever since the day my cousin told me it would punch through a CD and in my disbelief, i tried it and it sank through like butter! My DH is even in love with it. I'm a big fan of eyelets and brads, so now i can put them in things i never dreamed of before.
Probably the neatest thing i used it for was to make a covered paper maiche box for my great niece Bella (it's her first memory box) and i was able to punch through the box and all the layers to put in eyelets to help hold the paper corners down. I should really get a picture of it from my niece...
The smooshing part does take practice to know just how gentle of a hand you need, cuz you don't need much pressure to do the job, that's for sure!!

I'm interested in using it on felt. Is this wool felt (as in wool that was felted) or is it the kind that comes by the sheet or roll in craft stores? Do you need to do anything to the felt to kind of stabilize it, like adhere it to interfacing or anything?
It's felt on a roll from the fabric store that I have used, but unless it's unusually thick I don't expect that felted wool would be a problem either. I've punched two layers of regular felt in one go. So long as there weren't too many loose fibres. I went into major panic last week when a bit of thread from a piece of ribbon got caught up the side of the punch bit that makes the hole, and it was stuck.
CAD is great if you like to make books as it will punch through chipboard with ease. The CAD will also punch through hardboard, the baking used on Stampbords.

I use mine a fair amount for eyelets in scrapbooking and card making. But I have to admit that my husband and I use it around the house almost as much. Just in the last week we fixed the dog's collar with it (bought her a new leather one and it was too big) and I fixed my kids' kites (cheap nylon ones - I punched holes and set larger eyelets to thread the string through). My husband borrows it occasionally to use in his garage, pink handle and all!! I use mine enough to justify having it for crafts, but I think it's a great general all-purpose tool.

It's not made for brads. You use it with eyelets. That's mainly what I use it for, but have even used it for punching a hole in the dog's collar!
The best part is that it's so quick and SILENT--no more banging with a hammer! Just start using it, and you'll love it! I hesitated at first after buying it, but once I did some eyelets I was hooked.
I used mine to fix my daughter's jean shorts. The snap fell off when I washed them. It was a snap for decoration only. I punched a hole and put in a jumbo eyelet with my CAD. Good as new!!!

I love mine! Use it for just about anything that needs a hole punched! My husband uses it to put new holes in belts and other uses in the garage. I just sold 4 to our Cub Scout camp for their leather projects they do on walking sticks - the kids can punch through leather themselves!
Last night my son came into my room and asked how he could fix his time card. He just started a job where you must zip a credit card looking thing through a slot as your time card. He wanted to repunch it so that the tethered end would be at the bottom, making it less awkward to use. I thought about it for a minute and came up with the CAD! He looked at it kinda funny, but it worked like a charm! Pink handles and all!
What a timely thread. I ordered my lime green CAD from Costco last week online and it arrived about an hour ago. Love the Weekly Inkling! Thanks everyone for all your great ideas and for including links to tutorials. I do have a question, I have the beginnings of carpal tunnel and I find it difficult sometimes to push hard enough to attach the eyelet. Anyone else have that problem and if so, how do you "handle" the situation!

I had to hang several large banners (sheets) for our swim team. It was sooo easy to punch through the fabric, put an eyelet in then hang them from the chain link fences with ring clips. The guys were very impressed!
lOVE MINE TOO, I use it all the time, I make a bunch of "signs" for decoration, on thin wood boards, and I punch it through that with ease, I have made more home made albums since I bought it. I got a bunch of guys to come to this workshop I did for "Make the mother of your children a card" The guys didn't think they were doing such a girly activity when they go to use this "manly" tool. I am in the process of making a ribbon carring case for when I go to crops, I am using a plastic box from the $ store that has a great lid, and I am punching a bunch of holes - and then sticking the ribbon through... (Like the expensive bags you have seen)

Love Mine - tried it at my demo's and then got one for 50th from DD#1. We are currently on the move from KS to OH and of course carted most stamping stuff with me- after all, can't leave it in storage for 3 months! Anyway - DH needed hole in belt (smaller) and with limited tools available I remembered my CAD -- worked like a charm and he had a new respect for my crafting tools.
Was showing my CAD off to my husband this morning over coffee and we got to talking about something I saw at the So. Cal. SU regional. They showed us how to put on two eyelets so that there would be no raw edge. Does anyone know how to do that? Thanks! That would be one on the front and one on the back through the one on the front.

How timely that I saw this! I just bought a CAD this week at the craftstore that will be closing in the fall, got it with the case and all the brads for $20! I showed it to my husband and he looked at me like I was nuts! I expalined I wouldn't be banging a hammer any more in my craft room.
I am in the process of making a ribbon carring case for when I go to crops, I am using a plastic box from the $ store that has a great lid, and I am punching a bunch of holes - and then sticking the ribbon through... (Like the expensive bags you have seen)

I have arthritis in my hands and cannot sqeeze the CAD so I put one handle on my desk and just push down to get it to smoosh the eyelet.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! I am planning on doing a decorated CD so I can hang it on my big patio door so we don't walk through it and this was demonstrated at our regional. Now I can do it. The pictures are WONDERFUL. She's good. This is sooooo much fun!

This tool is amazing. It will pretty much do anything?!?! My favorite new thing to do with it is make a scalloped border (like the threading water punch). You can see my card here: http://scrapsbym.blogspot.com/2008/0...ship-bird.html
This is so big in cards right now and you don't need to go buy the newest punch to make it. All you need is a cropadile and a slit punch from SU which in really cheap.
