I expect to send out about 40 cards. And Kathy, I am so impressed that yours are all different. I make mine all the same, but I enjoy the process of assembly of a bunch of cards. (I like crocheting afghans that have the rows all the same, too - what can I say?)
And you gals that send 100 or more - Merry Christmas in a big way!
I did get my Christmas postage already. They have a beautiful Forever Poinsettia stamp available!

Probably just under 100. Gotta nail down the list soon. I over made last year but DH changed jobs so those may be for his colleagues this year.
I make all the same-ish except for immediate family. I'm thinking about doing matching envelopes and cards out of a Christmas paper pad...maybe a strip of glitter and a heat embossed sentiment for my bulk cards...
I'm thinking close to 100...I've decided that i want to send Christmas cards to a whole mess of my stampy friends that I haven't sent cards to in the past. Plus I'm increasing the number I'm giving to people at church. Now that i think about it i will probably be sending over 100.
Starting Dec 7 or so 4 humans, 2 dogs and a cat will be sharing a two bed RV camper until we close on our house (a short sale purchase). We won't have room for any size of a tree so I'm hoping that by sending out so many cards I'll get a bunch back for us to decorate our little temporary home
Gotta get our Christmas cheer anyway we can!

I made 40 cards this year and realized I need to make a few more. Usually I either make them all the same with a few exceptions such as my grand kids and a few of my closest girlfriends, this year I challenged myself to make them all unique using the same colour pallet but trying to change the layout and embellishments. It took me a lot longer but satisfied my creative mind. Don't know if I will choose to go that route next year or go back to what I have done in previous years.
I am sending about 85 this year. I usually do one of a kind cards but this year they are all the same: a family wedding picture from my daughters wedding on a handmade card.
In the past couple of years I've cut back on the number of cards I send. Not to sound like a Scrooge, but I got tired of sending cards to people I never hear from (at Christmas time or otherwise). Last year I think I sent about 20 cards. I usually make 4-5 different cards using the same stamp but different colors, papers, or embellishments.

Yeah, I hear ya! The MIL spends an entire phone call or more giving DH grief if certain people don't get cards. .. One year Royal Mail decided we didn't have the right addresses (even though we did) and sent back 5 cards after 6 months. I decided then, never to use address labels for the addresses again, they can just read my bad hand writing now!
About 40 total. I'm sure I'll have a few more that I end up making for people I don't have addresses for right now, but will get a card from this year. Only have of those are mailed, the rest are for work.
I only send to out of town friends and family, people we don't see frequently. I have about four diferent designs, try to not use a lot of embellishment that costs extra postage. And my gift to co workers and other " lunch buddies" are packets of cards, so I end up making about 80 cards.
Ho Ho Ho, time is getting tight.

What the...?!??!
I would be telling MIL "if you want those people to receive a card, then YOU send them one!"
I'm so glad I don't have anyone dictating my Christmas card list for me. lol
60-70 for me. Almost all different - and I have a Google spreadsheet for the last 3 years, so at least people aren't likely to get the same stamp two years in a row .
I'm just about finished making mine, except for special family ones.
I was so upset, two years in a row I have been sick and did not make cards or send cards. I found out the hard way. I send cards, I get cards. Pretty bad, isn't it. I only received cards from close family members and some stamping buds.
So....I am not in a rush. Nope....Nope.....Nope. I am ONLY going to make Christmas cards for the FUN of it! Never Ever again will I push myself to "Get it all done"!
So, I will stamp till I get tired or run out of time.
Just upsets me that being in the Military for so long and that we settled "away" from "home" that people "still" "forget" about us. That we have to still do all the contacting.

I wish I had started a spreadsheet to list the stamp sets used for each person! I worried this year that some may get one from a set from last year. I bought quite a few of the SU Christmas stamp sets and try to use them all.

When my MIL was still alive, she would fret every year as Christmas approached because she was sending over 100 cards on a fixed income. One year I told her to wait and see how many cards she got and send to those people as the cards came in. I told her that some people just send them to her because she sent hers out early and they felt obligated. That year, the number dwindled and she was so happy to be sending less than half that many after that. She just didn't have the funds, and was grateful for my suggestion.
I usually send about 65 to 75 Christmas cards each year. I make each year's cards all pretty much alike, with the same stamp image and sentiment for all of them; sometimes I change up the designer paper or embellishments or I add an extra matted layer to some of the cards.
I have a hard time cutting people from my mailing list, whether or not they've been sending cards to my family. I don't expect cards in return. Even though it's been 10 or more years since some of my first cousins have sent us a card, I still send to each of them. For one thing, it seems weird to me to send to one cousin but not his or her siblings. But the main thing is, and this goes for everyone on the list, not just relatives - it's my way of letting our closest friends and family know that we're thinking about them.
The exception to that is one of DH's cousins and his wife. They usually send us their Christmas letter - which, I'm sad to say, is always filled with grammatical and spelling errors - so I've tried to be kind and reciprocate the gesture by sending them a card. But the year they sent us a letter that dropped the S-bomb was the last straw. I'll be the first to admit I'm no goody-two-shoes; I've used that word myself in conversation. But IMO a Christmas letter is not an appropriate place for it. There were plenty other words that could have been used instead.
I give close to 100 every year. I mail about 85, and give the rest in person. I have a small but scattered family, some high school friends, some college friends, some grad school friends, and friends from former jobs. I also have friends from the SCA, my cycling teammates and former teammates, and now some of my tennis teammates. Add in some current coworkers, and my list is large.
I could add another 30 if my husband would let me give them to his coworkers, too, at their annual luncheon. He comes home with a bunch of cards but refuses to give them out.
I joke that once I have your address, you're getting a holiday card whether you want one or not!
I don't worry about reciprocation. I enjoy making cards, and that's enough.

No blog for me. My gallery chronicles my card-making successes and mishaps.
I used to send close to 100 cards and have cut back to about 70. Being a retired military family sometimes Christmas is the only time we hear from old friends and I look forward to hearing from them and sending them cards. I cut out people that were my or my husband's co-workers only but not friends. I make no more than 4 of any design and this year most are one of a kind since I started in Jan. I have more than I need but I'm still making them since Christmas cards are my favorite ones to make. This latest batch are only die and/or embossing folders; I start with stamps that need to be colored in [which I love to do with pencils] and usually do these in my bi-weekly 3-hour Card Making Group. I assemble them at home, adding embellishments, Stickles, gems, etc. and lastly stamping the inside.
Oh What Have I Done!!!!!
This site gets me into more trouble then should be allowed. First I get inspired by marvelous projects and cards that all of the creative people have displayed here. Then I have to have the stamps, papers, tools and embellishments so I can hope to try make my cards look as nice. Next I sit down and make my 12 very adorned, heavily embellished, over the top Christmas cards only to find out they have to be mailed in bubble envelopes at $3.00 each!!!!
The only consolation is that these 12 cards are for very special people in my life and $3.00 is a very small price to pay to show them what they mean to me.

Great poll! I send between 130 and 140 cards per year. I picked up my USPS postage stamps a few weeks ago...Guess I should start thinking about my cards!
My large Italian family all reside on the East coast, so lots of family greetings go out. Having moved a few times, I only correspond with some of the grad school friends at the holidays adding a few more to the list. I will try this year to send the cards with the letters early in the season. I make several designs, depending on what I get inspired to do. Never make more than 10 of the same. Gosh, I sure hope I don't send the same card to anyone this year..... Fun to hear what everyone does at Christmas. Ho, ho, ho...
I'm in the 100 range too. I send them to any customer who ordered from me within the last year, our out-of-town family and all of our friends. My husband is a mailman, so my true goal is to keep the post office is business. LOL...

My husband is a mailman too. and usually that comes in handy when I need him to bring home stamps, but when I need to mail something no matter what size, what shape or what weight he always says the same thing "Just stick a regular stamp on it."
I would be so embarrassed if any of my cards came back with out proper postage or postage due.
Love this poll and each response. I send between 50 and 75. Usually all one design and then I hand deliver another 50-70 at work. I have a tough time drawing the line at work. But, I work closely with about 120 good people. I've learned that an extra batch of treats with a snazzy email invite to stop by works for the folks who don't necessarily receive a card.
I also typically get together with my mom and help design and make her and my step dads cards. Last year he needed 80. We are really late this year with planning. Oops.

I think Christmas cards are my FAVORITE to make! I appreciate all of you that inspire me to start early. I marked the over 50 category but not 100. My Mom has me make hers so I make her 30 or so of 3 designs and I have 40 or so with 3 other designs. I just keep making them at this time of year as it's a good start for next year, LOL

I already have about 40 made and still have about 20 more to do. This year for fun, and I was a little board after HYCCT (love those daily challenges) so in November, I decided that every challenge I did here on SCS or over on Daily Dare, I would make at least one Christmas card. So days I did as many as 4. It was great fun, each one is different. And since I have a big tub of Christmas stamps under my bed I haul out every year I have to try to give some of them a little love. It helps me justify all the money I spent on them too. LOL So different cards are good for that and also for the scrap piles of paper I have left over from the year too.

What a fun thread. I love hearing what everyone else does about cards. I do between 50-75. Almost all of them are different with the exception of a couple. I did try and cut my list down when I have not heard from people. That usually backfired. For starters, someone I worked with over 40 years ago can no longer write due to arthritis. Another 30 year old former coworker had a husband die suddenly. So I am just going to continue sending to all those I usually do. I no longer care if they send one or not. It's a nice way to remember people that touched my life.
Usually 50-75. I mail to family and my stamping friends plus several at church.
It is fun to make cards..of any kind for me. I make Christmas year round whenever I feel like making them. There are so many places for the cards to go.
Happy Thanksgiving and a blessed Christmas season to you all.
I think I will send around ~50 this year. My amount has varied the last few years.
I used to send over 100, to stampers, current and previous co-workers, family, friends in my volunteer world, DH's list of same.
Then I got super busy in my volunteer world -- I intentionally didn't even decorate my house for any holiday last year :O
This year, I was inspired to make ~80 Thanksgiving cards. I am sending those to a lot of people I am very grateful for - people I've lost connection with while I have been so busy. And people in my volunteer world.
I will send another ~50+ Christmas cards. Some duplicates, some not. 25 for DH.
I tend to make batches of 10 like items. I've already designed a few cards -- snowy penguin sleigh scene, gingerbread house, ice skates. I am working on Prima doll Chirstmas tags this week. I have a pointsettia I want to use. More ideas than I will have time.
I try to match to challenges but I am usually SO late by the time I get them complete that I even forget which challenge I was on.
Two of my cards match the USPS stamps this year -- pointsettia and gingerbread houses.
I send out about 20. I wait until the last minute now to send them out. I know my mom waits to see who sends her a card before sending out a card, so specifically for people like her, I wait so the recipient can just enjoy the card without feeling the obligation to send me one back. I don't care if I get any cards back or not. The exceptions are my nephews and nieces; I send them cards all year long, and for all of December I hope to keep sending them Christmas cards. All of the cards this year are different. So much more fun this way!!
