Default Hobby Lobby or Joann's

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this. But I have tomorrow morning to myself and have some extra money (a very rare occurrence). I can drive an hour to Hobby Lobby or an hour in the other direction to Joanns. I've never been to JoAnn's before so don't know what to expect. I'm in search of new (to me) DSP and embellishments. Which should I visit?

Sounds like tomorrow will be fun! I'd go for Hobby Lobby - they have more papercrafting items than JoAnn - at least in my area that's the case!

In my area, Joann's has less to offer to paper crafters. Definitely much much less in paper & cardstock. JA's here carries a lot of Martha Stewart's crafting products, and several Sizzix items, although that's typically very poorly stocked.

HL is headquartered in OK, so perhaps that's partly why the local HL's stay pretty-well stocked. They carry a lot of their own brands but do have more to offer for card-makers that our JA's. Here, HL carries a large variety of Tim Holtz items, then their own similarly fashioned items, plus a nice array of wood-mount stamps. Sticker-lovers should be pleased there, too. Lots of embellishments, although many are their own brand. HL seems to offer more accessories-tools here than JA.

It really depends on your Joanns.

In my former residence, I think my local Joann's was one the largest ( and best stocked) Joanns in the US for paper crafters so the selection was always great. In the location where I now live the local Joann's is mediocre.

Hobby Lobby and Joann's also carry different types of products and different product lines. For example, in paper, HL has a lot of their in-house brand, The Paper Studio. In some instances that seems to take away space from some other brands and they don't have a wide range of brands. The sticker department is another good example of this. Joanns has a lot of DCWV and core'dinations brand paper. HL carries a limited number of Sizzix dies. Joann's carries a wider range of designs. HL has a better selection of rubber stamps. HL has a lot of interesting embellishment doo-dads by the paper Studio. My local Joann's has a decent but small selection of embellishments from a variety of manufacturers.

If your Joann's is a smaller store, I would go to HL. If you have a decent sized Joanns I would try there.

One tip-- if you have an idea of the products you are looking for you can look them up on the Joann's website to see if they are in stock at your local store.

Both have websites. You could "pre-shop" online to help you decide where to go. From looking at Hobby Lobby's website, it seems everything available there is what I see in the store. Whereas joann.com has lots more available online than in their stores & they do tell you when an item is available online only.

Right now Joann is having a Craft Month sale, 30% off all reg priced items, stamps are 50% off, other stuff on sale too & $3 shipping. Code is MIY62. Maybe you can shop online, get lots more for your money & have your gas money to spend.

Or maybe just come up with a shopping list for wherever you decide to go. Have fun shopping!

I'd go hobby lobby. All the Joann's near me are small and have small selections of any/all types of crafting stuff. Hobby lobby is kind of huge and I love how much stuff they have. They also have home decor things.

I say go to Hobby Lobby. They have way more DSP and embellishments. Have a fun morning where ever you go.

I was once told that the Joanne Corporate stores Carry a bigger variety.the corporate stores are the bigger ones. You would have to find out if your local areas has one. I winter in Arizona and went to the closest one which was dismal to say the least. When I explained to the clerk my disappointment she suggested I shop their Corporate stores which naturally was much further away.

Hobby Lobby! If you don't find anything paper related, they have such a great selection of other items. Lots of really nice home decor stuff.

Joann's is nice but I'd go for Hobby Lobby as you will find a variety of embellishments. PLUS they have a really great CLEARANCE RACK!! I would like to suggest wherever you go that you download the app on your phone. You can use a coupon on that app. All of our regular stores, like Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and Joann's has an app for your smart phone or tablet. You can take it in and use it to check out at the register!! Good luck and have fun!!

Oh, and BTW!! The weekly ad says that All Scrapbook ribbons and fibers, as well as, All Scrapbook papers are at 50% off, and Rubber stamp sets are 40% off, and finally, Sizzix and Spellbinders are 30% off at Hobby Lobby.

HAVE FUN!!

Joann's has a bigger online selection and if you can watch for shipping specials. A lot of time you can get free shipping on $50 or more or a 1.99 or 2.99 shipping deal. I love it when Graphic 45 paper goes on sale for 50% off and you can use a shipping coupon!! Really a deal!

Most definitely Hobby Lobby. I always check the clearance area first than wander about the rest of the store. Also I would like to throw out if there is a Tuesday Morning in the same area you may want to check that out as well.

FYI Joann's online is very irritating. You never really know if you're going to actually receive what you ordered until you open the box. You order, you pay, you wait (longer than most other stores IME), and *then* you find it out if they truly had the item in stock.

The in-store experience is hardly better.

Hobby Lobby all the way.

Ended up at Hobby Lobby with a side trip to Ben FRanklin Crafts. BFC was a waste of time. Only got some cardstock in springy looking shades i hadnt seen at Hobby Lobby.

Got a bunch of stuff at Hobby Lobby for my swaps and a bunch of new paper.

Glad you had a good trip! I have to say I didn't used to like Michael's much but we've moved to an area that has a few of them and I like them. They don't have as much as Hobby Lobby but they have a pretty good selection of things like home decor and a better selection of everything than J's. You should check one of those out if you ever are near one. And they have Heidi Swapp stuff which I'm really liking now!

Is the new stuff to replace all the Martha Stewart stuff they have cleared out, or just moved inventory around from what you observed?
