Help picking a printer
Hi everyone. I need to buy a new printer. I know there is a specific type I need to be able to print digital images and be able to color with my Copics etc. Is it a laser printer? I know this has been discussed much on here but I was unable to find the thread. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I think laser is the one you want. I believe I read that ink jet printers smear when colored with alcohol markers.

Here is a thread I started in May.
All the research I did on SCS had old info on printers. So this is the info I received on my thread http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...i-t587263.html |
It depends on the ink the printer uses. I've had two Canon printers - both inkjet - and haven't had the ink smear with Copics. I used both Canon ink and off brand inks and never had a problem. I use the Pixma MP560 right now. I think its discontinued, but there are a few models that use the same inks and the printers are fairly inexpensive. The ink is another story. Once the cartridges that came with the printer ran out, I installed a CISS (continuous ink supply system) with auto reset chips (ARC). My ink costs have dropped way down and the nice thing is I can buy ink in bulk.
Some inkjet printouts just need to be heat set or left to cure for a while. You're best best would be to take some paper with you and ask them to print off a test page and then take it home and test it with a yellow copic (if its going to smear, that one seems to be the one that will do it). If it smears, heat set it and test again. If it smears again, let it cure for a day and then test again. If it smears on the final test, then you know that brand ink won't work with Copics and move on to the next printer... |

here is a thread about digi's smearing
http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...r-t567023.html |
The ink is important when it comes to smearing. But be sure the printer you choose can handle cardstock. I think the ones with an outside paper-tray feed work best. Sometimes if the paper has to curl around a roller inside, you will get paper jams when using heavier paper.

Duplicate post.

I have an HP Inkjet and the ink smears with Copics so my printer is NOT a good choice for Copics. Letting the ink dry and/or heat setting the ink did not work - the ink still smeared.
As mentioned above, there are other brands of inkjet printers that use ink that is OK with Copics. |
Thanks for all the info ladies. I hope to go shopping this week. I like rubber stamps but occasionally do like to use a digi.
