A slimmer and cheaper alternative is to use a bugle bead and just glue it on. The clutches are great if you want the stick pin to double up as a little gift (make it a piece of jewelry) but if the stick pin is intended to stay on the card they can seem a bit extravagent!
I hope you can see on the attached photo, the end of the pin looks just a bit wider - that's a silver-lined clear bugle glued on there. I slide the bead right up the pin, add a dab of glue to the point and then slide the bead down over it.

Great idea!!! I completely forgot about my bugle beads - this is a better alternative!
thanks!
You're welcome! If you want to make the bead look a bit less "glassy" you can use something like a Krylon pen or a bit of silver acrylic paint on it. That also means that you can use any colour bead you happen to have in your stash already, of course!

You can also color it with copic, bic or sharpie markers to match if you wish!

I, too, like the bugle bead idea. Another way to secure the point is with an earring back (made for pierced earrings). They make a little plastic type (similar to a bugle bead actually), as well as a metal one that looks similar to the clutches posted earlier. You can find them in the jewelry/bead section of your local craft store. These allow for the pin to be removed and used again and are not expensive.

What a great idea, the answer to a question I had too. TFS.
A little while back Becca Feeken did a blog entry on making pins for cards that were reuseable. She used post earring backs for the ends of the pins. Here the link to that article, if you're interested. She comes up with such amazing ideas.

I've been using pierced earing backs but I like the slim look of the bugle bead. I might have to switch over to them. Incidentally, to alter the metallic shine, I carefully sand it with an emery board, wipe it off, then add a dab of coordinating distress ink or paint. If I'm adding a pin(s) to a flower, ribbon center or a die-cut that's popped up with dimensionals, I sometimes "hide" the end underneath.

What a beautiful card! Thanks for sharing.

Love the bugle bead idea, I've used seed beads that work but don't look as neat. Hadn't thought of bugle beads I suppose because I don't use them very often.
Cheers
Glad the bugle bead idea is useful and thank you for the lovely comments on the card! The Rose stamp is by Crafty Secrets, I think it's so pretty and fun to colour!
also, Danni at Scrapbook Nook uses a dab of hot glue to seal the ends of pins - just a thought for all of us who still have tons of hot glue ( and if you have the metallic colored glues it would add a bit of additional bling
OMGoooooooosh, I'm so glad I stumbled upon this thread tonight! I've hunted for clutches to go with hat pins for a long time now. Seemed I could find one place with the hat/stick pins at a decent price, but not the clutches too, or they weren't the kind I wanted, etc. Then there has always been this bit of flustering over shipping prices because I'd be ordering from two places, and do I really need 500+ hat pins and/or clutches at once? <g> KWIM?
SO - WOWZA!! I have SO many different lovely bugle beads here too, in various forms of silver to go with my hat/stick pins. WHY did I not think of trying those??? Probably because I just wasn't thinking apparently. The bugle bead idea for an end is genius!! A HUGE THANK YOU for that idea! I'm sooooooooo happy right now..just wait until tomorrow morning comes! <BG> Seriously..thank you for that wonderful idea.
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend! : )
