Splitcoaststampers.com - the world's #1 papercrafting community
You're currently viewing Splitcoaststampers as a GUEST. We pride ourselves on being great hosts, but guests have limited access to some of our incredible artwork, our lively forums and other super cool features of the site! You can join our incredible papercrafting community at NO COST. So what are you waiting for?
This will probably sound very greedy, but is there a list somewhere of magazines/websites that actually reward you in $$ or product when they publish your cards or cardmaking/papercraft articles? I know it's a great ego boost to see your work in a magazine, but my stamping habit would be rewarded tenfold if what was published actually got a monetary reward as well! LOL I know some magazines (e.g. Take Ten and other Somerset Studio publications) send you a free magazine, which is great I know, but chances are that you already buy or subscribe to said magazine to begin with. I also know that the Australian Cardmaking, Stamping & Papercraft magazine pays for articles. Are there any others? (Yes, I am seeking ways to supplement my addiction! LOL)

Hmmm... good question. Check out your library. There's something called "Writer's Market" that comes out every year and lists publications, editors and price paid for freelanced articles. Maybe there's something similar for artists.
With the change in the economy, some of these companies are out of business, so you would probably have to check with each one listed to see if they still do this.
Thanks for the link Skippet, and your input Melissa59. I don't live in the US though so doubt that info would be relevant for me. I'm in New Zealand, which is such a small country, that I'm sure there wouldn't be anything like it here. Will keep looking and hope I get more replies here to share.

I'm not aware of a list anywhere but plenty of mags do pay for projects they publish. It's not mega bucks but if you can pair it up with a manufacturer's reward program as well then it certainly makes it feel worthwhile. Off the top of my head: Paper Crafts, Card Maker and Crafts and Things all pay (all US magazines but all have electronic submissions processes so you can just submit a digital picture of your project and only have to mail it off for photography if it gets picked up). Most of them send you a copy of the magazine your project appears in as well as making the payment.
One downside of submitting to US mags for us non-US citizens is that we tend to lose some of the payment in bank charges as we pay the US$ cheque into our own bank accounts. It's the biggest market with the most magazines though so you pretty much have to grin and bear it, I guess!
I'd suggest looking online at the submissions pages of mags you're interested in submitting to so that you get a handle on their submissions process. They don't always have information about compensation but you can always ask here about specific publications if you're not sure - there's usually somebody with experience who can chip in.
I've been wondering what other publications compensate. I'm only aware of CARDS and Paper Crafts. (Which I love!) Why don't they list this info? I'm not going to spend time submitting if I don't know what I'm getting in return.

* PaperCrafts - provided a check for $35
* CARDS - sent a package with various scrapbook supplies and 2 copies of the magazine
I haven't tried to be published yet so I appreciate the info in this thread.
It should also be noted that many manufacturers will offer reward (usually product or gift certificates) if your publishedc creations credits their company.
I have the guidelines for Card Maker magazine, and there is a section on Contracts and Payments. In that paragraph is the sentence: "If this is the first time we've worked with you . . . you will also receive a W-9 . . . which must be completed and returned before payments can be issued." I would assume by that statement that Card Maker pays you for publication -- although the guidelines state no amount.
The Stampington magazines (Take Ten, Stampers' Sampler) send you a free mag. if you have a subscription, they extend it by one issue. If you use Quietfire stamps, Suzanne will give you free product. In my experience, smaller manufacturers will compensate you, but large companies will not.

I'm not sure what counts as a "large company" but Hero Arts certainly has an incentive scheme and I'd have counted them as one of the larger players outside the direct sales companies. They pay in product the first four times you get published using Hero Arts and after that it switches to monetary compensation. All the detail are here.
