I love these but have never sent one, my question is...
If you opened an envelope with one of these inside, would you know that the card doesn't open but stands up instead?
Would you send directions to clue them in?

I think if you put your button or brad (or whatever you use to prop up the card) no more than 1/4 of the way back, the recipient of the card should figure it out when she goes to close the card because the inside fold is so odd. I hope I am correct, because I intend to use this style for my Christmas cards, also.
I typed up the instructions with a very small pic of the card standing up and glued it on the back of the card card when I mailed it so that way the person would know it stood up. I don't believe the person would know unless they were card makers!
Hugs,Connie

I think you are correct. I don't think the recipient would have any trouble
knowing what to do.

You may be correct. I guess we know because we have made them and we think they would know.

I just made my first easel card and was wondering the very same thing! They are so easy to make and look so cool, I'm betting there will be lots of Christmas Easel cards out there!
What size is everyone making? 4x4 and just using a regular envelope?
Well, I did a test.... I met with 2 of my stamper friends this morning and gave them an easel card with no instructions in an evelope, then I watched them open it.
Both are more advanced stampers and neither figured it out in the 60 seconds I gave them.
I will either attach instructions or hand deliver.
Thanks all for your comments!

I made an easel card several months ago and sent to my sister who is an AVID card maker. She may have figured it out on her own, but I still sent a little sticky note letting her know.

Am so glad this thread was highlighted. Recipients have no idea this is called an "Easel" card...and that's the first clue that the fold is unique. I feel compelled to include instructions sometimes, so really appreciate that Penny has developed a straightforward, well-drawn note to attach. The few times I've been present when an unusual card is opened, I've always had to show the recipient how to handle it. Of course they don't want to risk tearing the card in my presence and eventually they might figure it out, but... 90% of my cards are mailed to distant friends and relatives. I attach instructions but never know for sure if they were meaningful or well worded for the one who doesn't know 'where I'm coming from.' Pictures help immensely. Thanks for the photobucket site and introduction to Penny's work.
I did a slider card for Valentine's Day... two weeks later my dad said, "Hey, I just realized your card opens up!" Yikes! Am now thinking maybe I need a "sticker" on all my not-the-norm cards... thanks for the link.

I sent easel cards for halloween this year. On a small piece of paper I drew the side view of an open easel card and wrote "Easel Card" on the paper so that the recipient would know how to open it. My sentiment was on the underside of the top.

Not only is that sticker a great idea (much better than my hand drawn post it note scribble), but I love all the other folds she had in her gallery!
I also love the fact that photobucket offered the picture on a mug--it would be very zen in the morning to mediate on a mug that had "this is a easel fold card" on it.
