I sit all day at work so I am trying to be more active in the evenings. I am planning to change from sitting while stamping to standing, so I am looking for stampers who stand when they stamp, color and assemble their cards. What do you stamp on, a counter, counter height table or something else? Have you learned any helpful tricks stamping while standing? Any suggestions will be appreciated.
I'm a stander. It's much more efficient for me (plus I sit all day too). Since I work a lot with mixed media, I use a lot of different supplies and by standing, I don't have to keep getting up to get my stuff. My table is standing height but if yours is not, you can buy bed risers for cheap. Or, 4 cans of paint will do the trick.
I stand through the whole crafting process. I sit at a desk all day every day, and I stand up as much as possible. I also like the added leverage in stamping and a birds-eye view of the project.

The bed risers would not work with my current table legs, but paint cans could be a temporary fix. At least until I know if I like stamping standing up.
yes, and I have a costco folding table set to counter height to do so. the only thing I do sitting down is use my sewing machine ( on an old desk across the room) or color ( in the house) my stamps live in a bonus room over the garage.
one trick is if you have a lot of wood mounted stamps and you know some of them are mounted crooked... bend your knees to eye ball the rubber and line up on the stamp to the paper before you press it all the way down. the other thing is with larger stamps lay the rubber side up and place the paper on it and walk your fingers or brayer depending on how intricate the stamp image is over that.
I'm a sitting crafter, but I do stand to stamp.Thats because generally I am on my feet, and moving about, all night at work. I find I can see the placement better, and get more even pressure on my stamp that way. If you go that route, have a look at IKEA tabletops, and they do a 'standard' height leg, for sitting, or adjustable height legs, which are dearer, but you can set them to a suitable height, I suppose about waist height, if you want to work standing. I have them on one of my tables along the wall, as I had drawer units already bought i wanted to use, and they wouldn't fit unedr standard height legs.
try it on your kitchen counter for a while and see if you like the perspective of standing up? (no cost)
Good suggestion, I would hate to invest in a new stamping table only to discover I prefer sitting. Hopefully my husband will understand when I bring my stamping projects to the kitchen, he likes clean kitchen counters. After a few weeks he will probably be the one suggesting I purchase a table. :p
This thread reminded me of an old, old song, When I Dream:
"I never run when I can walk,
I never walk when I can sit me down.
I never sit me down when I can go to sleep,
'Cause when I sleep I always dream,
And when I dream I always dream of you!"

I stand only when I am doing the actual stamping. I have to look from above to be able to get it straight. Now that I say that, I also stand when I am layering...same reason. I do coloring, punching, embossing and all of the other stuff sitting down. I also have to turn the card upside down to tie a ribbon. Not exactly sure why that is though

I always stand when I craft. When I built my craft room, I wanted all counters...no desk. I do have a place for my laptop, but it only has a bar stool. Crafting just seems more natural for me when I stand.
I belong to a small group of paper crafters and when I host, I have to put my high table away and pull out the card tables. I'm the only stander in the group.

My craftroom is 97% set up, but one of the last things I want to purchase is a counter height table. I'm thinking of getting two of the Martha Stewart tables and putting them back to back. I like they have knee space if/when I get an adjustable stool to sit when I want to.
I don't know why, but I just find myself prefering to stand when I craft, wrap gifts, etc.. and having the counter height table will make it easier to work. Plus, I'm always standing when I use the die cutter... but that's now on a separate table.. hmmm, I don't think I have room for 3 counter height tables. LOL
I took my HUGE farmhouse table apart (it splits in the middle to add leaves), took the legs off of one half and added them to the other half so it could stay at table height for sitting (when I sew, color or fussy cut). The other half sits on top of shelves at counter height for stamping, cutting, embossing and assembly. Best thing I ever did as far as making my room more user-friendly

Before I read your whole post, I was picturing a very large slanted table.

Both. I do like to stand at my kitchen counter to work on card projects especially for cutting paper and die cutting and I like to stand on a little rug so it's a little less tiring on my legs and feet. I stamp at both the kitchen table and the counter. My kitchen has the best lighting over the table and under the cabinets.
I sit. I only stand if I am using a hard to work punch. I have no excuse for sitting...well sort of. My back is nearly all metal and I cannot stand or walk for very long. I was going to say Im just lazy but its actually a combination of both.
Blessings.

I find I can see better if I stand to place something accurately as I am looking down on it and also I have the card at right angles as I find it easier to get placements straight!
I'm short..especially my upper body! Standing is the only way I can really see placement and exactly what I'm doing. I always try to start off sitting but when the real work gets underway, I stand. I'm a first grade teacher and I'm on my feet most of the day! Not fun to stand and craft, but that's what works.
I stand. The work area in my craft room is at counter height. I have a barstool that I sort of lean against when I'm coloring, but I find I'm up and down and all over the place gathering stuff as I create and do not like sitting.
I bought a large desk that is counter height, got a stool to use with it but very, very rarely use the stool. I found that I LOVE standing to craft, my back and neck don't hurt, and I am much more likely to put supplies away after I am finished with them because I am already standing! I stamp on one side of the desk, cut and die cut on the other. I am a happy crafter with my new desk!
I have a desk and a stamp table that I use. My husband created a stamping table for me that is counter height. It is a board mounted to the wall with brackets. I found a large piece of plate glass that I stamp on. All my inks are on a shelf above my stamping table. I find that if I sit and stamp my back hurt at the end of the day.
Those gel mats feel awesome to stand on - on my wish list.
I stand to use my paper cutters and die cutters, and sometimes also to stamp, but all my craft room tables are regular height. I 'm going to ask DH to build me a counter in my room when he finished remodeling our kitchen. For coloriing and fussy -cutting I always sit.

I generally sit to craft. When my DH created my craft room we went to Lowes and bought counter tops and he made the tables to my height. I love them! I do stand to do my die cutting which is on another table he made for my height also.

I stand and have for years! My husband made me a work table that is perfect for my height. I'm going to try and attach the photo I just took of it here. By the way, all the wood pieces you see have been made by my husband. I'm lovin' his talent! Yikes - I can't figure out how to put the picture here from my iPhotos. It's been a LONG time since I uploaded anything here - so need to go figure that out. Sorry. About all of this.
I do sit once in a while, but I don't get the pressure I need.

I give up trying to attach the picture - I did, however, put it in my gallery if you would like to see it. Thanks :( and

My desk is high enough that I can stand while I stamp (which I prefer to do and do most often), but then sit in a chair while coloring or doing something intricate. I have a taller desk chair. I like the flexibility of sitting or standing.
I stand to stamp. I feel I get more even pressure that way. I also stand when using my cuddlebug. But I find I need to sit and rest my arm on the table to color.
