I’m invited to a crafty get-together on Saturday. I don’t have any details really. The person invited me on Youtube and sent me her addy through IG.
I’m not sure what to bring supply wise but I’ll figure that out. But I’d like to make some real friends. Honestly, I’m pretty lonely. I have one IRL friend I don’t see much and I don’t get out much due to health issues. I rarely see anyone besides my hubby and kids.
Along those lines, I’d like to bring something for each person there. But a) I have no idea how many will be there and b) when I suggested a card swap for one of my DTs, I was told ‘why would anyone want to do that? We all already make cards.’ So I’m hesitant to bring something I’ve made.
Any suggestions? Would you enjoy a handmade bookmark or something similar? Something small I could buy?
Aww I hope you find some ladies to connect with there, I really do. Too bad we are 4 provinces apart.
I was thinking about either an individual tea bag holder, or a post it note holder, either would be useful and fun to make. You can use up scraps of patterned paper and cardstock, each one could be different, just precut everything and assemble prior to going. Not knowing how many will be there does pose a challenge, but would the hostess tell you, if you were to contact her and ask?
If you can’t picture what I am talking about, go on Pinterest and search paper craft tea bag holder... that’s what I did and all kinds of ideas came up! I’m just smart enough to link them. Good luck and I hope you enjoy the day
I hope it’s a good get together and you find you can have a good chat to some of the other ladies as you’re crafting as a first step to making some new friends.
I think it’s a lovely idea to take along a little something you’ve made for the other participants. I’m a reader so the idea of a bookmark is always one that appeals to me. Cardmaker2’s idea of teabag holder or cover for post it notes is great, too. There’s a tutorial for a tea bag holder here: Tea Bag Holder Tutorial - Splitcoaststampers - I remember making one ages ago based on these instructions.
My brain is ticking over now! I’ll probably keep thinking of random stuff:
How about making little seed packets and adding some seeds for something like herbs that people could grow in a small pot on a window ledge even if they don’t have a space outdoors where they could plant things? Basil is usually pretty reliable and it’s quite fast growing.
A little baggie of interesting die cuts? Maybe an idea for a later meeting if you get together again and when you have more idea what people already have?
I’d contact the hostess but I don’t have her email or phone!
Could you do some detective work from her YouTube posting? Is there anything there that would point you to a blog perhaps? Those often have a way to contact the owner by e-mail or there’s always the option to leave a comment if all else fails. Is “IG” instagram? I know nothing about how that works but if she sent you her address that way there’s presumably a private messaging system or something? Do you have her full name? If so, you might be able to find her phone number since you have her address too - try googling the two together.
Thank you for the suggestions. I found her email on her blog and we chatted. So I now know how many will be there. I’m getting some little seed starter pots and filler peat discs and some basil, thyme and chive seeds. I’ll make a little box for them and a cute but simple tag. Should be fun!!
I also found out what to bring for munchies and crafty stuff so I’m all set! Yeah!
I also suggest leaving an address and the Instagram Info along with any other information you have regarding this event for your husband. I recently joined a crafting group and my Husband insisted on the address and hostess name.
Hope I don't sound crazy but you cant be too careful these days.
better to be safe then sorry.

On the back of the tag or bottom of the box, put your name, city and email or some way they can reach you (if you are comfortable with that) so they can more easily get in contact with you afterwards. If any of the ladies are near your town, gather up your courage and perhaps suggest a once a month casual coffee and craft get together so the friendships can grow like the plant. Good luck!

Yay, glad you tracked down a way to chat with her. The seed collections sound lovely - do show us when you're done!
I agree with Bev too - I'm sure you'll have a cell phone with you so your family can contact you if they need to for any reason but I think it's always a good idea to let someone know where you expect to be.
I’m glad you mentioned munchies—at our crafting group everyone brings a little something to snack on and I think that’s often the most appreciated thing. Your basil gifts sound delightful. I hope you meet some wonderful people. Can’t wait to hear how it goes.
It turned out awesome! I met some amazing ladies. Some I would have fan-girled over had I known their last names then! (I found out on IG later!) And I don’t think I managed to put my foot in my mouth more than just the once. (I dissed MFT’s customer service in front of one of their illustrators!) 😱 But I did go on to say that while I was annoyed I still buy from them and like them. Hope that was a good save!
I did the pot, soil pellets and seeds in a bag with a handmade tag. I also added baby succulents I grew from a plant of mine. I added that to the top of the pot. I completely forgot to take a photo!! Sorry everyone. I didn’t see the suggestion in time to add my deets to the gift (brilliant) but everyone knows where to find me through IG. I sincerely hope I get invited to the next get together.
Ardyth made the most amazing chocolate sour cream fudge cake for which I NEED the recipe! As I have several health issues I was completely exhausted when I got home (almost 2 hours of driving) but so happy!
Thank you everyone for the suggestions.
(PS: I did give hubby the addy, just to be safe. And I trusted Ardyth 100% plus knew two other ladies already. But true you have to be careful)
Oh I’m so glad for you! To connect over a hobby is so rewarding by the way, I am also on IG and would love to follow you. I am cardmaker2, same as here.
