Default Christmas - what do you ask for?

My (grown) kids (all boys) are always asking what they can get me for Christmas. Well my favorite hobby is card-making, but I usually just ask for a gift card (Michael's, Joanne's, Archivers.) Is there a specific ITEM you ask for? Something you've wanted but won't buy for yourself? Thanks for sharing any ideas.

ask for specific items, leave the links on the desktop, leave coupons around, but I still get whatever they decide to buy me! So no help, sorry, LOL

Many online stores have a wishlist function. You can add items to your wishlist and then either email it to them or print it out.

I make very specific lists, including where to purchase, sometimes even where in the store to find the exact item (I'm married to an engineer). And I list everything, from small items to large. I also send ebay items via the "share with a friend" function. Otherwise, he's clueless!

I'm not a huge fan of exchanging what I sort of think of as "demand" lists but my family prefers it this way and who am I to argue??

I only ask for stamping stuff. LOL

I do wish lists, leaving the website, my password and specific items, noting the minimum for free shipping, if applicable, any coupons for sales, and what not. I always put down hundreds and hundreds of dollars worth so I know I'll be surprised, 'cause I would die if anyone bought all of it!

I also do gift certificate requests.

Thumbs up

Christmas 2009 I asked for & received a 1 year subscription to Canadian Scrapbooker magazine.

Other than that, I love just spending time with my guys, sharing a meal, etc.
That is the best gift anytime of the year!

Usually I make a specific list of items and websites. But this year, I just want cold, hard cash! That way I can buy just what I want......and I haven't made up my mind. It's between the Spellbinders Grand Caliber or a Cricut. Maybe I want both!;-)

My kids ask me or ideas and I also ask them if I have no ideas.

My kids dragged me out of the stone age and gave me a digital camera for Mother's day .
It has so many buttons and features that I just bought a book on how to use it. Technology is not my strong suit

Now I want Photoshop Elements and a book on how to use it. My daughter said they will chip in and buy them for me for Christmas

Usually I don't like to tell anyone what I want. I may hint to my husband. But this year I want a new Dahle Professional Paper cutter... so I think I am going to be a bit more - - hey this is what I want ... instead of ending up with more clothes. :-)

The first couple years I was married my husband insisted I give him a list of what I wanted for Christmas and he would buy a couple things off the list. I didn't feel like he was putting any effort into finding something for me from him - kwim? It felt like I gave him the grocery list... So now we don't buy for each other, we buy big ticket items for the house that we want. Usually, I'll buy myself something that I normally wouldn't buy for myself and tell him that's what he got me for Christmas. So far it seems to work, but it would be nice if he would make the effort to try and figure out what I like.

I normally ask for crafty things and one of the things I want this year is the MM Cinch (binding machine). This year though what I want even more than crafty stuff is new motorcycle riding gear.
We are members of a riders ministry group (Christian Motorcyclists Association) and I finally completed my ministry training and earned the privilege to buy my back patch. However the only riding gear I have is a rather bulky and heavy leather riding jacket so I want a leather vest to put my patch on and a pair of chaps and riding boots.

The only people I offer a wish list to is my DH and kids. If anybody else wants to know what my wishes are they have to ask. I think it comes across as presumptuous to tell people your wants without their solicitation....even if those somebody's buy you gifts every year whether you tell them what you want or not. :-)

Hubby and I did a list for each other for the first several years married, now we just do plain cash- so we can buy whatever we want instead of trying to find what the other wants. The rest of my family I just tell them when they ask I want this or that - so everyone always gets whatever they truly want instead of something else. I always get a list from family members but this is how I was raised- why spend tons of money on things that might sit in a drawer or not be liked instead of buying exactly what everyone wants.

This year I want a circut create and about 10 carts to go with it. That should be easy enough. Since I mostly make cards and only scrapbook for my Son the create seems like the logical choice for me.

My son asked me just the other day if there was something "personal" that I or my dh wanted for Christmas. I do not have collections, I do not wear jewlery, I will take big diamonds or solid gold bars but I don't think that is what he had in mind.

Last year I asked for a new die cut machine, but this year I can not think of a single thing I want, let alone need. It makes it hard when people ask, and they do not like the idea that I don't want anything. I will have to come up with something!!

With that said WHY do I keep buying paper, embellishments, gadgets, etc.????

I usually just ask for a Stampin Up gift certificate, which is easy for my husband to pick up from my demo and then I can buy what I want ... and he usually picks me up a stamping/scrapbooking magazine to go along with it. We dont exchange a lot of gifts between hubby and I, mostly for our son. We are now saving to go to Florida next winter, so Christmas this year will take a hit, but that's okay because we know that next year will be awesome when we go away.

I prefer it when my DH gives me his wishlist (like I know what tools *he* needs?) so I'm totally ok with it when he asks what I would like. There really isn't any other way for him to know. ;)
I usually have a specific list on the computer (with links) of certain things I really want but can't get locally. Certain stamps, certain tools, etc. For my birthday this year I asked for a Position It (and got one) - he asked for files that I could never have found without a link.
I don't expect him to buy everything on the list - but it's nice to know that I won't be getting something that doesn't fit!

I'm asking for a small Cricut or a Cinch binding system. I buy stamps and paper and scrappin' stuff for myself all year but I never seem to save up enough for the bigger ticket items.

I'm married to an engineer too. I do the exact same thing......at his request.....
The list has a wide variety of items I want of various prices so he can make the choice...... If there's something on the list from SU, he'll order it from my friend,(who's a demo), and her daughters wrap it up.

I never know what I'm getting, but I always know it's something I'll like.

My SU demo will take a wishlist, then contacts the spouse (or whomever) and let them know they've got it. She also gift wraps if they want. I've done the same thing in my DS business.

That is a great idea! . I'll bet your Demo has great sales at Christmas .
Guys hate to shop and especially wrap gifts.

The people at the Mall in line to get their gifts wrapped at the Charity gift wrapping tables are 99 % guys LOL
They probably spend more than they planned from her just to get it gift wrapped too. LOL

My hubby and I usually say hey I would like/need this and then we order/buy it for our selves this way we know what we are getting and there is no disappointment. With the rest of the family we usually tell them things we would like for around the house or ourselves.

I got my husband a laptop last year so he wanted to buy me something equally expensive so I told him a Cricut. I was not going to get one because I don't have time to try to figure it out. I love it because it saves on buying all the different sized punches and I can layer things. I still haven't figured out the best cartridges to buy. I like making boxes and of course layering things. Still don't have much extra time but when I do I have the tools to play.

My family is a bit clueless when it comes to crafting things I use (I do have other crafters in the family but the cards they make are still in the stamp (possibly emboss) layer on black put on card no embellies and nothings more than a trimmer and ink used as tools. So things like nesties and that confuse them.

This year I have make a wish list that includes links of the best place where to buy the bits I would like. And the SU catty has tags here there and everywhere and my demo's number lol.

My dh, two teenage sons and I have been making lists for a few years on the computer with links to what we want along with the info about shipping, coupons, etc. It just makes it so much easier for all of us.

I'm asking for a very small flatscreen TV for my scrap room or a starter set of Copics if I can catch a coupon for half-off at Joanns.com.

All of my family knows that I have an Amazon.com wish list. They don't have to buy it there (my three boys all are pretty good about using Michael's coupons when buying for me) but they all know that they can go to the list to see what I want - and to make sure they don't get me something I already have.

I just ordered a pile of stuff for myself from SU, and I honestly can't think of anything else I want. My dh and I have so much stuff, that we are struggling for ideas for each other. I think that this might be the year that we finally cut back, as I have been trying to do for a few years now.

I've had my new SU toys for over a week now, and haven't even looked at some of them, as I have too much stuff. I am finding that ordering new toys and having them brought to my house is more exciting that actually getting the stuff.

What I would really like for Christmas would be signing up as a foster parent with Compassion or some other charity.

While it can be hard for my DH to get me the correct scrappy/crafty items I ask for (because he doesn't have any idea about what to do with them etc.) I usually make a list with a link where he can buy the item AND I cut and paste a photo of each item. Otherwise, I'd just rather have the cash and I can order exactly what I want myself!

I'm thinking about trying Copics soon, so maybe those will go on my wishlist. Maybe Nesties...I might make a list of new goodies that I wouldn't get for myself--some kind of tool that would be neat, but that I haven't been able to justify buying yet.

What a fun thing to think about!

I leave a specific list out with all different price ranges including gift cards. I know I want to get people what they want, that's why I still have my kids write letters to Santa even though my oldest kids are 16 and 15! I always try to listen to other people, also, for hints about something they might want. I guess I just assume they're the same, so I make a list. Of course I appreciate anything I'm given too-- if it's not on my list, I appreciate the thoughtfulness. And I love anything home made... nothing is more special to me.

WeRMemory Keepers is coming out with a new tool in November called the Sew Easy. It looks like a little roller with different attachments to pierce different stitch patterns on your paper. If it's not too expensive or at Joanns/Michaels to buy with coupon I'll probably put that on my list too.
Looks like it's going to be one of those love it/hate tools and hopefully I love it!
