I started this card by picking the stamp set and colours (I don't know the sex of the baby). I kept trying a few different things and ended up with an AWFUL card! So I came on here, and browsed through the gallery looking for a layout that worked with the stamp I had picked. This card Forums at Splitcoaststampers by Dawn Chapman caught my eye AND it already had a similar colour scheme to what I had chosen.
Anyway, does this make my card a CASE or is it simply inspired by?

I'm guessing this particular situation was inspiration, since you already had selected the same images and coincidentally, nearly the same color scheme beforehand.
Either way, I bet Dawn will just be so happy and flattered to know that her original piece inspired what you did with yours, and that you took the time to mention it. It's always such a nice warm fuzzy to know one's work has inspired someone else!

I don't see it as a CASE at all. They look like entirely different cards to me, though I can see the inspiration from the original card.

Well said, I couldn't have said it better myself. I think a CASE is a near copy and an inspiration is when the final product is very different. In the case of a CASE (silghtly changed) mention the original designer, it is not good manners not too. In the case of an inspiration it is nice to mention the original designer if you can pin point where the inspiration came from. I find that I look at so many different sources for inspiration it is hard to always pin point where the inspiration came from, sneeks up sometimes. Then I just give general credit.
Interesting question...off to see what everyone else is saying. CUTE cards by the way, both the original and the inspiration!
