Does anyone know if there is a program going so we can send blank cards to our Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan to use? If no one knows of anything, I will volunteer to contact Veterans Affairs (I used to work for them) to see if there is something we (Canuck SCS's) can do.

Today I made contact with someone in Public Relations with Veterans Affairs. She really liked our idea and will look into who we need to approach. I will keep you all posted on the progress. Wanda

Have you thought to approach a Military Family Resource Center at the base closest to you? They would probably be able to help. If you do an internet search for MFRC + the base location, you should get a link.
This is so great. I am definately in. It just seems that every day it is getting harder and harder for our men and women in the military to be where they are, it is nice for us to be able to show we care.
This is probably a silly question, but, can I play too? Yes yes...I realise I am an American...but my boyfriend is Canadian so technically that makes me Canadian By-Proxy. ;)
That and I am already sending packages to American soldiers....and I think any soldier from any country needs to know that we are supporting them...even if we aren't from their country. Know what I mean?

That is really wonderful of you to ask. I have no doubt that they would love to receive a card (or more!) from you!

Christmas Cards for Troops to Use.
I have heard back, and have the scoop for this Christmas. But the timelines are really short.
Shirley says that they need them by the first of September, as they have to go through them for security reasons. I would like to have someone help me with this. I am in Alberta, I am thinking if I could get someone from the East it would help with the postage for us stampers. Then they need to be mailed to Ottawa, so whoever coordinates it will have to pay for the postage, but I have asked if we could send them through their courier service instead of Canada Post, so keep your fingers crossed. If we could get more than one coordinator, the better, sharing the time and the possible mailing cost.
So - if anyone wants to volunteer as a coordinator, let me know by sending me a pm by the end of the week. Then I will post the names and addresses of coordinators.
Everyone get stamping those Christmas Cards! I am thinking we should have them in the mail to coordinators the first week in August.
If any of you are close to a military base, you should be able to take the cards and such to the Military Family Resource Center and they can be mailed there for free of charge. They are put on a military transport that would go to each place directly. (I say might because I know families of soldiers can do this, but I'm not positive if non family can do the same.)

Oopps, I had the answer in an email Diane sent me earlier.
I learned many things with the Canada Day postcards for the troops, and uniform size was one of them. I know 1/4 sheet is convenient for us card makers, but the size is 'almost square' for those who aren't. I noticed that their eyes don't see a space the same as we do and many showed signs of erasing, to straighten out their images. I examined all the cards with a critical eye so as to make things easier for the 'next' one - which turned out to be for Christmas.
