You're right, so many good causes and not enough time or resources to fill them all! |
Your cards arrived today! Will update the total sometime in the next week or so - sorry that it's taking that long to do it - the apples are drowning me and I still need to clean house for company that's arriving! UGH!!! Where's the maid when I need her.
On another note - will you take donations for your project? I want to look through my punch supply and see if there are some that would be useful to you (and possibly some stickers). Let me know.

Do you need envies to accompany the cards? Or just the cards?
If you can PM/email me your addy I'll get them in the mail by the end of the week! |
Hi Christyne,
I'm still good for envelopes - Hallmark keeps giving me some (through their store and through Superstore in their card section - as long as I connect on the right day with the card lady).
I will PM you right now with my address.

Carolyn, that's really kind of you! I'd be delighted with anything for the kids but just get your busy phase over before you do anything! Know what you mean about the maid, our DD arrives tomorrow and I was Hopsice much longer than I intended 'cos this sweet lady was making cards for her DH and her friend. She was so happy with her cards! It was an afternoon worth the extra time spent there.

Sounds good! My DD and I looked through my punches already and came up with about 8, also a few stamps and some ink (bright pink, green and multi color - a couple of them are small but they might help you out). I'll take some time next week to look through some more stuff. I'll let you know when I get it on its way.

does anyone how I can get a hold of Carolyn? I have been trying to find out if she has received my cards that were sent out the end of July, and I haven't heard from her.

Thank you Rainy Daze for updating Bira for me. We've had company from out of the country and we've been having too much fun with them to be sitting at a computer (and TOO HOT!!). They're gone to visit other family for a couple of hours so I thought I would check e-mails quick.
Yes, the cards were received long ago. Will put in a new total soon, after the company leaves.

Good evening to all of you,
I contacted the Edmonton Garrison today about when to take the boxes of cards in (as probably all of you know, they were dealt a devastating blow when three of their own were killed last week). I will be taking the cards in on Friday.
I received this message back from the deployment coordinator:
"I have had many thanks from soldiers as has my assistant about these beautiful cards and we will keep sending them. The soldiers are so happy to have something to send home."
Just wanted you all to know...
And I'll keep collecting! How can I not!?!

Did Amber from Saskatchewan send me cards through SCS? If so, they arrived. My address wasn't even complete on the mailing label, so I'm surprised they arrived so quickly.
If it's not from here, I'll have to go on the search for where to thank her!

The Deployment Assistant from the Edmonton Garrison e-mailed me today saying she would love the box of Christmas cards with my delivery tomorrow to be sent over right away. So, adding those cards, our total now sits at 6,298!!!
Isn't that amazing, incredible and mind boggling?
Yeah, it's late and time for bed...but I think it's pretty cool.

Are you planning a trip to the Edmonton Garrison this fall? I am having a little get together at my place towards the end of the month and I am thinking of asking the ladies to make and bring cards with the majority to maybe be valentine cards. Just thinking about the time it takes to get them over to the troops, handed out, pick up again and sent back. Might be cutting it too close for christmas cards.

Yes, Christmas would be cutting it a little close, but I've started a stack of 2009 occasions (valentines, st. patricks, easter, etc.) that I will take in later this fall. I'll still take in whatever Christmas ones I get, but other occasions may be put to better use.
That was very thoughtful of you to consider this before going ahead. Thank you!

I have an idea and was wondering if it would be useful for the missing you cards. What if included with a few of the full size cards were a couple of smaller size cards (3x3 or postcard style cards) that could be included with the full size when sent back to the families. Just thinking about how special it would be for children to get their own cards at the same time as the one addressed to the parent/caregiver at home. I have some larger envelopes (6x9 ish) that this type of thing would fit in.
Just an idea I had.

Sounds like a great idea! Would you need that big of an envelope, though? I have slightly larger than the 5 7/8" x 4 3/8" size (for quarter fold cards) from Hallmark that could handle a few of the smaller cards tucked into the regular sized card. I could even do up bags of them (might have to be in sets of 5 instead of 10) for the soldiers to pick from, rather than mixing them up with regular missing you cards.
Run with it - the more creative ideas, the better!

Christyne: So sorry for not letting you know sooner that your cards arrived on Friday! Thanks for sending the package. You gave me ideas for the designer paper I have that's just sitting on my shelf.
Now I can do a new card total (canstamper's are included in the total as well): we are at 6,471!!
Let's give ourselves a round of applause. :p

I have also been in contact with Robin and Angeie from A Card for Home. My friend Judy and I have just sent off a box of 234 cards to Angeie - 126 of them are Christmas cards. Judy and I are planning a fun day soon with my sisters to create more cards to send off. My sister's company has donated envelopes and cardstock and my brother in law has offered to cover postage for us.

That's great that you're supporting the cause in Shiloh. I was finding it so hard to get stuffed shipped from Alberta to them (the HEAVY boxes I have would have cost a fortune!). If we spread the love and support to all our military bases in Canada, imagine what that would do for the soldiers serving overseas!

I just noticed that the Shilo website "A Card For Home" is currently not accepting cards.
Should we continue to send cards to you?

Wow - I just noticed that too. I know one of them got transferred and the other one homeschools and has a special needs child and...as you can imagine, she's quite swamped.
I will definitely continue to accept cards. Do you need my address? PM me and I'll send it to you.

Carolyn, are you looking for full cards only? And did you want them seperated? I need to go thru my cards, I have a bunch that I have made, or they've been given to me, etc and I would love to give them to a Canadian source! PM me if you wouldn't mind, thanks,

If you have cardfronts you could make into cards that would be great. You don't need to separate them if you don't want to - it's totally up to you.
I will PM you my address. Thanks for joining in the fun!
