How do you make the patchwork quilts you cut out with the top note die. I see so mant pretty cards using them and I would love to make one.
Thank you
Marcia
This card in the members' gallery has instructions on how she made her card. I copied a tutorial on how to make these, but I can't find it now. I do love these quilt cards!
Here is a card that I made using the patchwork look. All I do is cut out pieces of paper (it's a great way to use scraps!) and glue them to a piece of cardstock, and then cut it out using the die (did that make sense??) Hope you have fun making these cards - the finished project is so beautiful!!

If you have a square punch, that definitely makes it easier. And it is definitely easier to cut with the Top Note AFTER you have your squares gluded down.
You can also add texture with an embossing folder -- something swirly that simulates quilting is nice. I've seen some people sew the seams with a sewing machine, and it looks great too. I tried to do some faux stitching, but it looked a bit busy for me. I love these quilts embellished with a few buttons and a sentiment like Soozie4Him has done.
And for Christmas gift sets, I actually made a digital template on Photoshop Elements and just "clipped" my digi paper to the template and was able to mass produce quickly without all the punching and gluing.
Here's a card I made using strips of DP that I attached to a piece of cardstock on the diagonal then cut with the top-note die: Diagonal Quilt
Kim, thanks for the link to Diana's tutoral; I love the look she got putting it thru the cuttlebug after cutting with the top-note! I REALLY love the digital paper you created for your gift sets too!

here's one i made, Friendship Quilt by IdahoLee at Splitcoaststampers
i used a "postage stamp" punch for the squares, and after i ran it through the top note, i ran it through the argyle cuttlebug folder, and ran the background through the swiss dots.
Thank you everyone for so much help. After I get my house put in order from the holidays I will have to try all your ideas. I knew I could count on you ladies, thanks again.

I love these cards too. I guess like real quilts they just give me a warm comfy feeling. Here is the card that I made and the instructions include a great tutorial:
I used strips in place of squares for these cards on sticky paper and it sure saves time and effort. 4 x 5" mailing labels with 1/4" cut off one edge will give you the perfect size to use inside the card too so nothing goes to waste.
Are 4x5 mailing labels sticky on both sides or do you put the squares on one side and then use the sticky side down? What kind of adhesive does everyone use?

The labels are only sticky on one side and the squares/strips go on the sticky side so you avoid the need for adhesive for each small peice. Once your patchwork is complete you attach to the card with your choice of adhesive.
I just made my first quilted panel with squares yesterday for Holly's Technique Challenge and used a sticky panel so if you want to view my directions here's a link to my card.
Roxie-thank you so much for that, I don't know what I was thinking, duh!! that makes perfect sense. Your card is awesome, love the flower, it adds a special touch. You use a 1" punch, thats good because I do not have the 1 1/4" punch and I didn't want to purchase it.(yes, I know I could paper cut the squares but punches are way easier and much more exact)
These quilt cards are all really beautiful!! But I have a question (probably a dumb one at that). Why do they call that die "top note", what is it's primary purpose, and why are all these quilt cards using it? Wouldn't the quilting technique look just as pretty as a rectangle or other shape? I'm just curious. I had never even heard of that die until this thread, and now I'm wondering what it's all about. Doesn't Nestabilities have a similarly shaped die?
Thanks for not stoning me! Hey, if I don't ask, I'll never know.

Actually I've only used the Top Note and quilting together a couple times (one is a set of ten holiday cards that I'm counting as one) and most of my quilting panels were done on rectangles which I'd link but I'm to lazy to look them up.
As to why it's called Top Note, I guess only Stampin Up and Sizzix can answer that one, it's just the name of the die cut manufactured by Sizzix which is exclusive to Stampin Up. I think Spellbinder does have a similar die, not sure if it's under the Shapeabilites or Nestibilites line.
No stones...it's just a question and a good one at that!
I've made several paper quilt cards and each time I used the 1 1/4 inch square punch from Creative Memories. I generally group 6 different coordinating DPs and punch out 2 of each design (total of 12 squares). I adhere them to a piece of thin copy paper, then zigzag stitch the squares together. I then use a die with a Cuttlebug to cut the shape I want.

Thanks for the clarification, Roxie, and the links to your cards. They are just BEAUTIFUL, as is everything you seem to do.
I'm gonna try one of these quilted cards.....they seem very warming and cheerful to me right now, and I could use a boost. January is a l o n g month for some reason. Cold, dark, and depressing.

OH my goodness...I made some of these last night only I used I think labels 4 to cut them out...they turned out soooo pretty. I will post the pictures this evening.
blessings.
I have made one of these cards as well and I did this: I cut the paper into strips and attached them to vellum PAPER (not cardstock). Then I cut cross wise so that the strips were squares of the different printed paper and lined them up so that the squares alternated, and attached them to a piece of cardstock. Then I used the top note die to cut it out. What I didn't think of to do was to dry emboss... what a great idea!
