Default Buttons on cards

I just bought some buttons to use on cards. I can see this might be an addicting embellishment.

How do you adhere the buttons to your cards?
Do you sew them on?
What kind of adhesive would work?

thank you!

I usually use a glue dot to affix them. I do like to use a ribbon or a strip of cardstock in the holes, though, so they're not "naked".

Stampin up has a great glue dot. A couple of notes: Make sure you never touch the dot or the oils from your hands compromise the sticking power (apply the button directly to the dot on the paper and stick it to you card); All glue dots are not alike. As I said, SU makes a great dot - I've used other brands that lose their stick and embellishments fall off.

The other sticking alternative is two sided sticky tape (like the rolled red tape from SU). This stuff works for almost anything, and I often use it for buttons.

Zots also do a superb job - they DON'T come off. SU are great but if you need them NOW, look for ZOTS brand. I often keep extra boxes on hand because they are fabulous and hate to run out!

I usually use mini Glue Dots.

Unless the buttons are REALLY small, then I'll use just a dab of Aleene's Tacky Glue or Glossy Accents/Matte Accents.

On certain cards, I like to tie embroidery floss through the button holes to "dress them up."

I use red line tape. Sometimes I will use twine or floss through the button holes but not always.

I use SU! Glue Dots. I use my buttons naked. I forget I about putting on ribbon. Tried it once & I like the look.

I either stitch them to a layer that won't show on the inside of the card or use a glue dot.

Sometimes I stitch them on, if there's a layer I can stitch them to and I remember in time - I feel it gives them extra holding power. Otherwise I use Glossy Accents or clear-drying PVA. Sometimes I like them with hemp or ribbon, sometimes I am quite happy to leave them with nothing.

depending on the size of the button, i either use red tape (aka sticky strip) or i use zip dry glue. i've used glue dots from time to time, but i'm so afraid they'll fall off....i want to KNOW those suckers aren't going anywhere!

Another glue dot user! You can also use a dot of Crystal Effects but you have to give it time to dry.

I use glue dots too and I like hemp twine and thread it through the holes and tie a knot (not a bow).

Me too. The little green bottle of Mono Multi works great but you have to let it dry a bit! Also a "dimensional" will work well too.

I either use Zip Dry (which is clear) or a Dimensional. I live in TX, and I have gotten cards with embellishments & glue dots sliding all over from the heat here. Stupid heat!

I use MICRODOTS. It comes in sheets.. you lay down your embellishment on the adhesive part, press down and lift and VOILA it's on! It works on imperfectly shaped embellies! Hope this helps!
you can find it here

After reading your full question, I understand what kind of button you are talking about, but at first I thought you meant the kind that children especially tend to gravitate towards and pin on their shirts, etc.

Here's a link to a card I created with the other fun kind of button.. Pinch Proof St. Patrick's Day Card with Button by kt3 at Splitcoaststampers

Good luck!

I use the glue dots ZOTS that I get at Michaels with my 40% off coupons. When I cant find something else I want I always pick up a box of these because I use a lot and I wont waste that 40% off coupon. Sometimes I have used the Mono Multi.
blessings.

I sew when I can. (Doesn't always happen and then I use glue dots.) Position the button where you want it to end up and make holes with a pin or needle from the front of the work in opposite corners. Try to make the stitches as far apart as possible this helps keep the button where you want it and less chance of the thread cutting through the cardstock. If the paper or cardstock is thin I try to reinforce the back with a scrap piece of paper to make it sturdier. If I want to have long threads showing then I thread from the front of the work to the backand leave myself about three inches to tie it off. If I'm going for a crip look then I usually tape the thread down in the back and go up through the tiny poked holes from the back of the work to the front then through the button and back down ending on the back side again. I do about three passes with the thread. Hope this helps.

I use the Scotch Quick Dry liquid adhesive. The amount varies depending on the size of button you use. I haven't had one come loose yet.
