Question Birthday invitation help

I'm making birthday invitations for a 16th and 17th birthday party for 2 girls. Here is the information that I have.

Its a Party

Black and White Affair

This is for 17th and 16th birthday party. They have to wear black and white to get in but not dressy. There will be a DJ and it is a dance, food, etc. Soo have at it! Make it sound like a formal ball so its not like a little kids birthday.

Where: 4H building

When: March 28th

Time: 8:00 to Midnight

Help! How do I make it sound formal and not like for a little kid!!

Thanks!!!!

The thing that first came to mind is to do a split negative image on the front (see tutorial here). That would make it more "grown up" from the start, and then you take it from there. Check out the gallery for the Split Negative projects for some awesome ideas. The invitations could easily be done as just a front (or postcard) or as a folded card with the info printed from the computer in a cool font. If you want some cool fonts, check out free font sites ( http://www.fontgarden.com/ , http://www.fontriver.com/ , http://www.scrapvillage.com/fonts.htm , http://www.searchfreefonts.com/ )

I don't have anything more specific, just a few ideas for a starting point. Good luck and be sure to post your creations when you decide!

I was thinking the split negative too -

Maybe something on the front like -

Black & White (Black in black on white c/s and White in white on Black with the & split) (however obviously you will have both sides of the split available and it would only make economic sense to use both side or only ink the half you are using...)
Party (split over the black and white)
Maybe a nice silhouette flower/feather or clear rhinestones for embellishment.

Things that make invites more adult are embossing and muted color. and staying away from "cute" images.

I think on the inside you put the details about celebrating the 17 of Miss A and the 16th of Miss B and dressing in black & white to impress (formal wear not required)

Quote:

You are cordially invited to help us celebrate the 17th birthday of Miss A and the 16th birthday of Miss B.

With the help of our DJ we plan to dance the night away.

The party will be held at the 4H building
on March 28th, 2009
from 8:00 o'clock to Midnight.

Dress to impress in Black & White (formal wear not required)
