Default Any Other Stampers in Wet Iowa?

Hi,

Are there any other stampers in the mostly flooded state of Iowa. I know I am blessed to still have a house, but our basement was flooded again!! First a 100 year flood and now a 500 year flood! My supplies are safe, but everything is damp. I've got a dehumidifier running full time in my craft room. What else can I do?

I guess I'm just feeling sorry for myself. Stamping is my way of relaxing, and now I can't do it - AGAIN!!

Thanks for listening. ("Want a little cheese with that whine?")

Default Iowa

Hello!
I'm live in Iowa, and as a matter of fact, it's raining outside again now....ugh....I'd love to see that sun....just for a full day or two even!!! Our house is fine, thankfully, but we also farm and our fields are wet. There is devastation all around us.....it's so sad!!!!
Stay safe everyone!!

I don't think you want to be ANYWHERE in Iowa! Did you read about the Boy Scout camp that got hit? Four dead and 46 injured between Sioux City and Council Bluffs

I'm in Kalona and work in Iowa City. They are evaculating some areas and closing streets. What a mess. People where I work are trying to figure out how to get home as they have shut down I80 after the Atalyssa exit.

How are you in Cedar Falls. You guys have had it pretty bad there. Let's hope and pray that this is over soon.

I feel so sorry for the people who have lost their homes and had to move out. My sump pump quit about a month ago and flooded my basement. I now have a new sump pump and a battery back-up sump pump. Then, when they were cleaning our carpets we found out a pipe in between the walls broke from the hard winter, and my family room was flooded. Nothing too much lost, but had to pack up my whole scraproom, and I'm still not unpacked. Insurance will pay for the second claim, but not the first one.

You all take care and stay safe no matter where you are.

I live in New Jersey and the worst we've had to deal with recently is 4 day heat wave with lots of humidity. My heart goes out to all of you. Every day when I hear the news, there's just more and more flooding and tornados. I often think of my SCS friends and hope you are all safe. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Cyberhugs to you all.

I live near St. Louis but lived in Iowa City for 7 years while we were going to school. My husband was from Algona, so I am very familiar with the names of towns in Iowa. My brother- and sister-in-law live in Ames. So far they haven't had it bad, but they are gearing up. BTW, after all these years, I still miss Iowa City! I probably wouldn't even know it now. My thoughts are with all of you. Everyone here is preparing for the flooding that is anticipated when all that water comes south with the Mississippi. Best wishes to you all.

I'm from Iowa but I live in Omaha now. This weather is crazy! Friends of ours had a son at the Boy Scout camp. He is okay, but they didn't find out how/where he was until almost midnight. It was horrible. I hope the flooding stops and there isn't too much damage.

I went to school at The University of Iowa from 1985-1988. I grew up in Webster City - not too far from Algona. Small world.

I am lucky to be dry, live next to Mason City and they were not so lucky. The whole state is definitely a mess.

I am in Cedar Rapids and our city is under siege. Most of the flooding is because of the Cedar River that runs through the middle of town, but we have also had flash flooding and small stream flooding due to thunderstorms and heavy rain that have passed through the area today.

8,000 people evacuated from residences in affected areas (our city population is around 120,000)

Unknown number of businesses closed/under water and employees affected.

Electricity out in many areas, including at one of the hospitals and the main post office. No bus service. County jail inmates had to be evacuated.

Police and fire department operating out of temporary facilities.

Iowa Army National Guard are here providing assistance.

Only 1 bridge (I-380) open over the river; all other bridges closed. This effectively cuts our city in half and makes any kind of travel extremely difficult.

One railroad bridge over the river (going into Penford Products) has collapsed.

Our phone has been out since about 11:00 this morning. We still have power at my house but electricity is out in many areas. Water and sewer are operating at 25% capacity.

Go here for pictures of my town. It's unbelievable. The most recent photos (from this morning and today) are the last ones posted--you have to scroll through the pages to get to them).

And we have more severe thunderstorms in the area heading our way.

My demonstrator lives in Rolfe but I think it's in the Northern part of the state. She said it was beautiful and 70. I feel so bad for those of you that are getting the rain and dampness.

Default water everywhere

I live in Marion. Indian Creek is out of its banks.
My house is being threatened by the creek.
Its not to far behind it.
Our Post office is flooded and no mail going out.
I am trying to get my DH to get sand bags and put them
around the back yard.
He out trying to get water now.

Hi, it's me again. I live about 45 minutes north of Waterloo in a town that's been on the news twice in the past month or so. However, the worst flooding now seems to be south of us. It is literally all that is on the local TV staions. Okay, I'll quit whining about my basement/stamping room having a couple inches of water in it.

I feel so helpless against all this water - for myself and for everyone else. The church that we attended when we lived in Cedar Rapids has a completely filled bottom floor (where the daycare was) and is now in the main floor where the sanctuary and offices are. Pray! Pray! Pray!

Blessings,
Shirley

I live in Marshalltown and we are doing better then surrounding towns. The river is out of its banks and alot of people have water in their basements. My sump pump is actually working. My craft room is downstairs so I'm praying I do not get water down there. CR and CF and W'loo is getting hit hard. Hopefully this rain will stop!

My friend in M'town finally made it home from work, and now she's worried about not getting BACk to work! I've been trying to get ahold of my girlfriend in Mason City, but she doesn't answer, and her answering machine isn't picking up - can anyone tell me more about Mason City? GC had another three inches overnight. Reinbeck, Morrison and Hudson have a lot of flooding, but more in fields rather than residential. Skies are dark in the south right now. My uncle used to be Supt. in CR, and is currently traveling in CO. He wants to know if the HWY. 30 bridge is closed. Any info would be appreciated. Everyone please take care.

I'm in Fort Dodge and comparatively, we're doing ok. We don't have too many homes or businesses along the river so that is a blessing. Just a lot of flooded basements and fields. Prayers to those truly affected by the flooding. I need to call my dad. He is in Muscatine, so I'm sure the riverfront is flooded there. He got hit by the tornado that hit there last year. What incredibly wicked weather. First a nasty winter , now a wet and wild spring. Sending dry and sunny vibes to everyone!!!

Horsebroad, try googling Iowa DOT . There should be a map on the site that shows road closings. Not sure about bridges, but you can check.

I live 40 miles SE of Des Moines, and I work in West Des Moines. This morning as I drove through Hartford there was water over one of the Northbound lanes. When I came home tonight the Northbound road was closed and only one lane was open Southbound. I'm going to have to take a different route to work tomorrow, as I imagine the highway will be completely closed by morning. My town is becoming landlocked as most highways are closing. It's getting as bad as the flooding 1993. My house is dry and I'm thankful for that. I know there are people who were told to evacuate their home because the Red Rock dam was going to open and the first level of their home was going to flood just like in '93. How awful!! This weather is crazy!

I'm here in Burlington, along the Mississippi in southeast Iowa, and we are expected to crest on Monday. We are having Steamboat Days going on down by the river & I don't think it is going to make it through the weekend. I doubt the bands will be on after tonight. Once it hits 19' they are tuning off power down there and it is already well past 17'.

I believe the Hwy 30 bridge is closed. Some of my co-workers living in Mechanicsville/Mt. Vernon area were trying to figure how they would get home tonight after work.

Who would think that water could destroy so completely and quickly. I feel so sorry for those whose homes are flooded or washed away. I just look at the news photos in awe. Let's pray that this soon will be over and people can start to clean up. They said on the news that it would take several years before Cedar Rapids would be back to "normal". I imagine that it will take all of the towns years to rebuild, and what about the tornado that nearly leveled a town in northern Iowa not too long ago.

Throughout Iowa people are banding together to help each other. It is a wonderful site to see this.

I am in Waterloo. I am lucky my house has not been affected. It has been "interesting" trying to get to work this week as the options to get across the river have been very limited. Fortunately, the highway was reopened tonight and the drive should be mostly back to normal today. DH works in downtown and they are hoping to get back in the building tomorrow. It may seem trivial, but today we were finally able to get the dog from the kennel after being out of town. We tried to get her Tuesday, but there was no way to the kennel due to all the water.

It is amazing the damage water can do.

The road closures have been changing quickly. If it is one of the state highways or interstates, it is best to go to www.511ia.org to check status. I just saw on the continuing local coverage that Highway 30 is closed from Mt. Vernon to I-380.

Thanks for all the info! And Linda, I live 13 miles from Parkersburg, the town hit by the tornado. My church circle is responsible for feeding the volunteers tomorrow night because the Red Cross (who had been doing it) pulled out to go........everywhere else! We've been volunteering for the past two weeks.

Oh no! I hope your house is not flooded. My brother and SIL live in Marion and so far they are OK--as long as they do not lose power because their sump pump runs all the time.

Our power was out for 4.5 hours. We ran our sump pump with the generator in the motorhome!

3 of 4 city wells have been compromised. We have been told to use water for drinking purposes only.

Iowa City/Coralville are being hit also by the Iowa River.

I-80 around Tipton, exit 267 or something like that, is closed. If you want to drive across eastern Iowa, you will be taking a 150 mile detour with every big rig and car that travels on I-80, and that's a lot of traffic. Keep your gas tanks filled and better carry a gas can in the trunk.

Yes, Hwy 1 south of Mount Vernon (between Mount Vernon and Solon) is closed.

Parts of our city look like New Orleans after Katrina hit, and will require the same kind of rebuilding and clean up. It's so sad.

Default south dakota

i live just across the border from sioux city, ia.
we have not been hit by a tornado or floods yet. i have lived here my whole life so i know what living in tornado alley is like. if the rains don't quit soon there will be flooding here. we have not had a tornado here but there has been some very high winds. i really don't want to have to deal with either one.
i have been through some floods so i don't like those either.
the fields in s.d are flooded. so it is not looking good for the farmers.
stay safe everyone.

Mason City is getting better. They are still flooded, but the water is up for restroom use. No drinking yet. Lots of home damaged. Having some problems with phone service. Also some living in shelter in Clear Lake, (I live in Clear Lake)

I just got back from visiting family in Mason City. Stayed at my parents' home, and thankfully, no water damage there. Our favorite little bakery is out of business from the flood. So sad about all of the homes & businesses.
I'm feeling very thankful that my family there is safe.

Ugh ~ & more rain last night. I didn't go to bed until 11:30, then woke up at 1 to lightning & thunder. Got up, because it sounded so windy so I had to check the weather reports. We had water come into our basement on Saturday through our windows, thankfully it was just rain water & not sewage, I just sucked it up with our carpet cleaner. No window well covers to be had in the area, so my dh covered the windows with plastic & leaned plywood against the house. He did a great job with that, because with all the additional rain we got yesterday & last night, not a drop came in. My thoughts are with all the families dealing with flooding & damage!
