I recieved my printed 12 x12 digi pages which were my first attempts that was inspired by you ladies here. I cannot thank you enough for encouraging me (& others) to slowly and happily jump into the world of digi. I was amazed at the quality of pages and my daughter said they should be framed. wow now that's a compliment worth much more than any amount of $
It always warms my heart when someone discovers the joys of digi! I'm so glad you decided to join us! By the way, where did you get your photos printed?
I had the pages printed at Stampin Up site, not sure if they only print MDS program; I will try Shutterfly next time because have a coupon and seen pages printed by sister.
i only do 8x8 pages and i do them at home. our local camera store sells double sided satin finish paper and i have a binding system that will bind them like shutterfly, into a book. i am sure it is more cost effective to send them out, but after i print them i always see things i want to change and have to redo at least one page. still cheaper than therapy and illegal drugs, right? maybe not.....
I usually use Persnickety Prints or Scrapbooks Please. I sometimes print 8x8s on my printer, then add them to a 12x12 paper and add embellies for a hybrid page.
thanks for that tutorial link. there is so much to pse to uncover. i tried to snoop around designer digitals, i found all their challenge galleries, but i could never find where the challenges were ever issued, with rules and such. any help. i feel like i am pretty computer literate and yet some websites there seems to be a million "layers" to and i cant see to get where i want to go.
I'm with you, Lori--I find Designer Digitals' site set-up to be a lot different from many I've used. And they seem more restrictive (or maybe it's selective) about their forum.
what i love about scs is everyone can play along using anything they have. i think that builds the knowledgement base: so many different people using so many different things.
I agree. I don't like to feel like I HAVE to use stuff I got from only a certain site. Even if they say you can use other designers' kits, I always feel funny if I don't have a majority of elements from a designer from that site. I often use bits and pieces from many different kits. Here, we're FREE!!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!
it is very very seldom that i use products from just one source. one site said i need to use 70%. i started keeping a list and how much would be 70% and suddenly it was way too much math and i decided ok, this layout is just for me, no challenge. it become instantly less stressful!
i am so busy getting xmas cards done and my husband is piecing this computer together with upgrades, so my digtal is taking a back seat. hopefully by midweek....
Order from Amazon thru SCS--help give gift of thanks to SCS mods
Splitcoast has a great way you can "thank" the moderators here--at no cost to you. Just place an order through Amazon using the SCS link. Click here for more info.:
I really appreciate the gals like Lydia, who help us navigate and advertise our challenges, etc. It's a free & easy way to thank them. Just thought I'd share!
i went to the adobe link, what the heck does all that mean? i guess if i were familar with that program i might know! i guess if i dont know what i am missing....
this isnt digi, well, kinda, i used my computer for the lettering. i did a mixed media challenge on scs and someone from sizzix saw it and asked to post it on their website. sometimes i feel like the only people who ever see what i do is my husband and my kids and only because occasionally i will follow them around like a first grader and say "wanna see this?" my kids are polite, my husband never ever "gets" it. so here's the link.
i have learned so much since joining scs. stamping, digital and now mixed media. i feel like this place is a goldmine of knowledge. lucky, lucky us!
You always make me chuckle, Lori! I know what you mean about the guys not getting it. Sometimes it's more frustrating when you do show something to them than it is to keep it to yourself!
Super fun canvas Lori!! I have a few fans here and there outside of SCS, but I think everyone here really gets it best. ;) That said, I had to chuckle when I took the wrapped framed pages I made for our Paralympians to the party back in December. Two of the coaches who have already received framed pages from me rushed right over to watch the unwrapping, with Danielle saying to Karla "I've got to see this, you know what it is don't you??" And Karla says back, "I know! That's why I had to get over here so I could see it close up!" That made the effort worthwhile, knowing how much they cherish their own gifts!
All that to say - I'm glad we have a crowd of followers here at SCS who swoon for our gratification ;) LOL

Terri--that must have made your YEAR! Makes me feel good just hearing about it. Your work IS worth getting excited about, that's for sure! (Especially your BB pages! ;))
I feel in love with digi-scrapping about 3 yrs ago. I switch between digi-scrapping and card making. Now that I have a silhouette I can use my digital papers that are soo beautiful on my cards. Digi-Scrapping is awesome...Don't know where it's been all my life.

Congrats on being "Spied Upon!" ♥ How cool is THAT!
I hear you though, the only thing DH mentions about my scrapping and card making is the mess.
I have a diggi question that I hope someone can answer in the next few hours.
Nitwits is having a clearance sale that I want to purchase a bunch of, however in MDS2 the clip art is not transparent. Now, I came across some teckkie talk that said if an item is saved as a .png file then it is transparent.
So my question is twofold.
1.) can I save a zipped file that comes as a .jpg and change it to a .png?
2.) can I add papers and clip art to Adobe Photo Shop Element 10 and how?
Oh, and one more thing - does anyone want a cat because mine is driving me bonkers right now, chewing any paper she can find. All because I will not give her any food. She is only suppose to eat once a day (she is VERY overweight) AAAHGG!!
But seriously I wish there were classes out there that would actually TEACH digital scrapping.
i have some files that i purchased with the white backgrounds saving them as png files doesnt change the background. i open them pse10 and use the magic eraser to erase the white background. if you uncheck the contiguous button at the top is will erase all the white in the whole picture, great if its a line art type of thing. check the button if you want more control. then save as a png.
scrapgirls.com does have some awesome videos for purchase to learn pse in regards to scrapbooking. i bought them years ago for pse6 and they saved my sanity. so so worth the $30. there are other sites that offer those kinds of things too. i have found now that when i have a question i google it and usually there is a you tube video that explains it. god bless the internet.
i dont save my supplies to pse. i created a masterfile and in the file i have things broken down, such as papers, then inside that by color, embellishments and inside that buttons, fasteners, flowers, ribbons, etc. i have a folder titled "examples" with saved pics of examples of layouts of the kits i've purchased. i probably have at least 50 folders very broken down, so i can narrow my search easier. i always think i will go back and rename everything, such as "red flower" or "blue ribbon", so if i search my computer for "red flower" all the flowers with red in the title will come up, but that will take far to much time.
Lorri, thank you so much for the info. I'm going to make my purchase and hope for the best.
And yes, youtube has saved my sanity on more than one occasion as well.
I still have to figure out how to pull papers ect into PSE10 but with patience (of which I am sorely lacking these days) I hopefully will figure it out.
thanks again!
i make all my scrapbook pages in pse10. i just right click on whatever paper, embellishement, whatever and choose "open with pse10" what program do you use to scrapbook in?
you can also in pse1- click file/open and pick the folder/file (i never remember the right terminology for that ) that you store supplies and open them directly from pse10.
With PSE open in one window, I open a second window in Windows Explorer (thumbnail view), find the desired image, then click and drag the thumbnail of the item right into the PSE window. You can do that with jpeg or png files.
this is a digital mixed media that i worked on this week. these words were so powerful and i wanted to do something to do them justice. evil must not win.

i have been looking for a used su medallion stamp. today i thought, hmmm, i will see if su has the digital stamp. they do, but it is in svg (great for people with electronic cutters), but it will not open in photoshop or photoshop elements. does anyone have a trick that i dont know to open it?

Lori, I'm pretty sure if you google "opening svg files," you'll find some free programs that can convert svg files to jpg. You could also download a 30-day trial version of MDS. I think the free photo editing program "GIMP" can also do it.
scrapgirls is doing a call for layout designers. i have considered applying. but i am not sure how many layouts per month they will be requiring. and i feel its in bad taste to ask "geez, how much work do you really want me to do" i know if someone came in my office and sat down for an interview and asked that, i would not hire them! i dont see these calls very often and i would like to take the next step.
but here's my issue. my daughter just got engaged and is getting married oct 5th of this year. i am doing the save the dates, the invitations, she wants vintage, so i am doing burlap and paper bouquets (for six girls) boutineers, probably a dozen wrist corsages and two hundred match box favors with a tim holtz tatter flower on the top. why am i considering this? but it is something for me but i wouldnt want to let anyone down.
after i write down all that i need to do, i think i am crazy, but i still wonder if its not too much if i could fit it in. so does anyone know the general details for most shops?

Wow, Lori! With all that wedding stuff on your plate, I don't think I'd opt for the Scrap Girls spot. But, it you do, I don't think it's in bad taste at all to ask that question. Most sites have a posting somewhere that tells you the requirements.
