I'm sorry I'm a little bit late getting today's Tuesday Challenge up! I decided to take today off work and use up a lieu day to play and I ended up sleeping away most of the morning with a bit of a headache! Boo! Anyway - here's the challenge! Can't wait to see everyone's work!
DGSC085– Using Pre-made Templates - 10/16/12
________________________________________
Many digital scrapbooking programs, like My Digital Studio that I use, or digital kits from the designers around the web, come with pre-made page templates that all you need to do is add your own photos. For me these templates rarely have a theme that I would use so I tend to ignore them. In MDS there are blank pages that have only a photo layout that I used for the first 20 or so pages I made with the software, and then I graduated to making my own layouts - OR SCRAPLIFTING FROM MAGAZINES AND OTHER SCRAPBOOKERS! It is rare for me to come up with a complete layout all by my own little self ;) Please do your best to give credit to the magazine, designer or page your are inspired by - it is only fair!
This week, I want you to look in your files and find some of the already designed templates in your digital stash. MDS users, you will find these when you go to create a New Project. You will click on Designer Templates and choose from there.
Once you’ve chosen a template that will work with the photos for your page go ahead and begin substituting the pre-chosen colors and embellies to suit your theme. Go ahead and keep embellishments, etc in the same location as the original template OR change it up as the creative process hits you.
*For bonus points, combine some stamped images to suit your page. You will see in my sample a ‘wheel’ I made behind my paper circle that was created by layering two stamps from Good Friend stamp set.
Traditional scrapbookers - this is your opportunity to choose a sketch you’ve seen that you would like to re-create. If you aren’t comfortable scraplifting or CASing projects, give it a try! You may even like to use the template that I made my page from, I’m attaching it here.
"PLEASE NOTE!* Although this is in the digiscrap threads, anyone is welcome to play--whether they're a digi, paper or hybrid scrapper.* Just as the digiscrappers, when doing a traditional challenge, sometimes have to change up the instructions a little to fit their digi needs, the traditional scrappers might have to improvise on some of the digi techniques.* It should make things interesting!"
If you have questions, you can post them here or PM me.
You can view all submissions for this challenge here: DGSC085 DGSC085 - Homemade Cards, Rubber Stamp Art, & Paper Crafts - Splitcoaststampers.com
To add your page to this gallery and the monthly scrapbook gallery just add DGSC085 and SBC12OCT when uploading. Also, please take a minute to post a link to your sample page on this thread so we won’t miss seeing your work!
Have a great week! I look forward to seeing your layouts.
I usually use some sort of template as well. I've even taken the sketches that are here on SCS and made my own digi templates that can be reused. I've got LOTS of saved digi templates to choose from!
i do no have many templates saved, but i have a "layout example file" that i store layouts that i like the layout of, not necessarily the colors, papers, etc. i used a layout by paula wright to model mine after. here it is.
This is a fun one! One thing I did with mine, and it worked well for them, was to use my Instagram photos that aren't quite as crisp as my regular camera photos. The smaller photo size on the lay out makes it perfect for them!

Instagram?
don't have that. don't I need a smart phone or something?
Yes, I use Instagram on my iPhone. I am pretty sure it is on Androids and probably Blackberries too. I definitely still take most of my photos with my DSLR but I also end up taking a few cute shots with my phone too because its always handy!

I love templates. For this challenge, I used a clean and simple one that was mostly just a layout for the photos. I added the rest. Thanks for the challenge, Terri!
For anyone interested, Scrap Art Studio offers a free template every week posted on Mondays. After the week ends the template goes on sale for Charity.
Here are a few other sites that I know offer free templates (usually monthly or 2x a month):
Peppermint Creative
Gingerscraps
With Love Studio
Divine Digital
Designer Digitals
I don't use templates very often, but was recently asked for a tutorial on using them in my software (Craft Artist) on the Toucan Scraps Tutorials Blog. I found a sponsor willing to provide a free template for the tutorial and I published it today.
