does anyone use the CM software?

I just got the Creative Memories software (Storybook 2 plus). I really do like it, very easy to use. I want to upload some paper from the internet to it but i'm not sure how to do it. Does anyone know?

Also, I'm using Costco to print my pages, anyone out there know of a better place?

I just got this software as well...and finished 20 pages at a retreat this weekend!! you're going to love it...

I downloaded the zip files to a folder I named "digi downloads"...then I unzipped them and put them in subfolders by the website I got them from and the paperset name. After the files are unzipped you open the SBC software and at the "home page" you click on the upper left corner where it says "my stuff". Click on "file" then "new collection" and type in the name of the paper set. then click on "content" and "add papers" and browse to the folder you stored them in. then click on "content" and "add embellishments" and do the same thing.

easy peasy!!

Thanks so much!!

Hey Ladies, Just jumping in here.... I'm new to the CM+ software myself and would LOVE IT if there was a thread for us to chat on...is there one on SCS somewhere????

picinichml 07-22-2008 08:16 PM

I haven't heard of anything. I just had to return my software. I'm kinda sad about it because it was so easy to use and to learn. But it lost too many of my pages so I took it back.

You lost pages on it? Was it not saving correctly? I had trouble finding WHERE it was saving my stuff when I first put it onto my computer....you're sure the pages are gone gone??? That's really sad and aggravating, so sorry that you lost your work! :-(

Goegirl 07-22-2008 08:33 PM

Hidey ho!

CanadianKristin 07-22-2008 08:36 PM

Hey Kirsten!

CanadianKristin 07-22-2008 08:38 PM

So, I shall blame YOU (tee hee) for getting me HOOKED on the software and loving it sooooooo much! I've been trying to download/upload/get freebies from the internet, but am finding it too technically challenging for my lack of patience.....so went trolling through the CM site today and found $99 worth of digi kits I MUST HAVE............eek! I just wish the shipping wasn't so darn high.....ugh.... sorry, Dudette, I will forever complain about that one! ;-)

MUST HAVE the Hannah Montana kit.....the colours and rock chic are just perfect for my DD2!

Goegirl 07-22-2008 08:41 PM

Oh lordy, don't ship disks girl! Order the downloads! Nobody should be paying shipping on digibits sent through the air!

Goegirl 07-22-2008 08:42 PM

So what kinds of prob's have you encountered with the uploads? I'm breaking my arm patting myself on the back here, but I ***think*** I actually have got the hang of it!!

CanadianKristin 07-22-2008 08:42 PM

What? If I just order the downloads, there is no shipping fee? WHAT?

CanadianKristin 07-22-2008 08:44 PM

Ummmm.......they are sloooooooooooooooow to get onto my computer. That's the biggest one, and I don't get it since I have the special fancy-dancy "media package" computer that has tons of space for such things. Weird?!?! I'm hyper-sensitive about getting stressed out by "the process", scrapping is my fun, kwim!? What sites are you having the most success with? Suggestions?

Goegirl 07-22-2008 08:51 PM

Really? Slow huh? Well you're gonna have to talk to your service provider about that one I'm afraid. I'm on a BRAND spankin' new sony Vaio with highspeed yada yada yada. So sorry, wish I could help you out on that front!

Let's see, I just bought some LOVELY stuff from sweet shoppe designs last night. I got Dinorriffic,
and Spin your wheels

and I picked up the freebie "He Said She Said" set - too gorgeous!

CanadianKristin 07-22-2008 08:52 PM

K, must get to bed.....night!

Goegirl 07-22-2008 08:54 PM

Ok, good night sunshine. See you tomorrow!

CanadianKristin 07-22-2008 08:57 PM

Do you have an external hard drive for your digi stuff and photos??? I'm considering researching such a machine as that......between my HP Media files and my Picasa files my computer is holding TOO MANY PHOTOS and I can't get them off fast enough.....I'm averaging over 25 pics a day......oops!

I do have one, and I've just started using it to back up my digiscrappin files. I've been storing photos on external servers and cd's or DVD's to keep the computer 'clean' as well. I don't know if that's what really jams up a 'puter though. I don't know much, but I know that there's a difference between the memory that STORES stuff and the memory that RUNS stuff. The 'puter will only run as fast as its weakest link - bottleneck, you know? StampinDenise would know this one - I shall endeavor to get some info out of her on the chat thread sometime!

CanadianKristin 07-23-2008 08:17 AM

Hey Kirsten...........was dreaming about those kits you bought all night.......JEALOUS......... good thing I'm 'cash only'......that site could be DANGER to my bank account! ;-)

You know.....if ever I see a "basic computer programmer course" at our local college, I would seriously consider taking it.....for these very reasons!!!

My goal today: digi 5 pages......the big two kids are gone til 3pm, the littlest will nap and the #3 will watch a video......hmmmmmmm........that's my plan, and I'm sticking to it!!! bbl

Yes, I'm sure they are gone. A few weeks ago I lost one page. I got an error message and called the company. They said there was nothing they could do, the page was gone. I was frustrated but it was just one page and other than that it was working great.

Well, last week I was working on my 5 page 4th of July spread and I saved as I went along. When I finished with everything I saved again. And then I clicked, "Save Pages As" to save them onto my desktop to have them printed at Costco. It didn't save properly and when I went back into the software to try it again they were all gone. Even the pictures I had imported to use on the pages were all gone. I tried restarting my computer but that didn't work either.

But that was it for me. I was sooooo heated. I'm going to go with Photoshop now. I hear it's pretty complicated to learn but I just need to dive in.

I did love the CM softwar but it is a bit limited. You can get a lot done with it but there are some things that I'd like to be able to do and can't.

picinichml 07-23-2008 09:22 AM

Oh, If you want free Cool stuff then just go here

She does alllllll the work for you!

LOL
Make life easier on yourself.
Make a folder on your desktop and name it digiscraps (or whatever you like). When you are downloading any type of digital scrapbook template, embellishment, paper, alpha, etc (free or not) save it to this file. Once it is downloaded onto your desktop then open up the zip file. My command is "open here". So then it will all be opened up onto your desktop. Next open your CM software and click on, "My Content" (I think that is what it's called, I don't have it opened right now). Click on Add Collection and name it. I usually keep whatever name the creator named it. Then click on 'add paper' or 'add embellishment'.

Then go back to your desktop and delete the opened zip files. I don't delete the zip files, I store those in another folder on my desktop. Once I get enough money together, I'll buy something to store all of that stuff in.

I hope this works for you!!

Goegirl 07-23-2008 08:31 PM

yeah! What she said! Well put

So, Kristin, did you survive? Are you ok???

CanadianKristin 07-24-2008 11:29 AM

K.........gonna go try this right now........wish me luck.......

CanadianKristin 07-24-2008 11:31 AM

I in in My Content, Import Package, in my desktop folder as per your suggestion, now it says: "Not a package file" ...........????????

CanadianKristin 07-24-2008 11:34 AM

If I go to MY STUFF I can then find the "add paper" and "add embellishments" button.......but when I go to Mickey (the freebie file that I know is ON my computer), it has nothing to double click on and transfer into the CM+????????

CanadianKristin 07-24-2008 12:57 PM

Happy News: I picked up my first ever digi pages from Costco and was SO HAPPY that they looked exactly as they did on my computer screen.....was a little nervous about colour or grainy-ness I think. HOORAY!!!!!!
I'm scrapping 8.5x11 because I'm too cheap (and would feel too guilty because of all that stash I have) to print 12x12. I was going to mount them straight to black 12x12 for my albums, but I think I'll actually scrap them now, as if they were a large photo......double the work, sort of, but getting more photos onto less pages: priceless!!!!! [happy dancing]

picinichml 07-24-2008 02:13 PM

Ok, I THINK I know what you are talking about. Let me try to walk you through it.
First, did you unzip your file onto your desktop? If not, do that. Now it's open and it's on your desktop. Sometimes it'll open up into a file, and sometimes it'll open up into whatever it is you got and it's just sitting there on your desktop. (Like if it has 3 patterned papers then you'll see each patterned paper right there).

If you put a bunch of downloaded stuff into a folder on your desktop then open up the folder and drag one zipped file back onto your desktop. This way you don't get confused, you know what you are working with.
Now open up your CM software
I just opened up something and it 'unzipped' into a separate file onto my desktop.
In my CM software I click on 'My Stuff' then 'File' then 'Add Collection'. Here is where you are going to name it. Use the same name the designer used. Now it is one of the collections you have listed on the left. Make sure that the one you are downloading is highlighted.
Click on 'Content' then 'Add paper' or 'Add embellishment' (whichever one you want.)
A screen will pop up with a bunch of files for you to search through to find the one you want to upload. Since I upzipped that file onto my desktop already it is right there. If it isn't just get to the desktop section how you normally would do it. Once I click on the paper or kit that I want to add to CM then you can see them on the right side of the screen. Either highlight the ones you want or just click 'Get all Papers'.

That's it! They will appear and you can use them right away.

I hope that answers your questioins!!

CanadianKristin 07-24-2008 02:22 PM

IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HAPPY DANCING

HAPPY DANCING

HAPPY DANCING!!!!!!!!

No idea WHY it suddenly worked, because I did exactly what you just explained earlier today and nothing showed up.....maybe because I closed the CM+?? Who knows....BUT IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!

CanadianKristin 07-24-2008 02:23 PM

Next question: The Mickey set I just downloaded has a font.....but it is a sheet of paper......with all the letters typed out......not an actual "font" in my "fonts" window..........so.......HOW DO YOU USE THAT? Are you cutting and pasting individual letters? Did I do something wrong? Suggestions, please! :-)

CanadianKristin 07-25-2008 08:42 AM

Superstore (Loblaws) has 5x7 and 8x10 prints for 49 cents til August 1st..........guess I should get mega-busy since I just paid $1.39 and thought THAT was a steal!!!!!!!! :-)

CanadianKristin 07-25-2008 08:57 AM

Okay........I even remembered what you told me and am STILL able to get My Stuff and My Content into CM+ ...........oooooooooooooooh, freebie-world, here I come!!!!!!!! Again, THANK YOU FOR YOUR MOST AWESOME HELP, Ladies!
