HappyOctober, Color Lovers! I'm so happy to be getting our October Challenges started this month. Before we get to this week's colors, let's take a look at last week's favorite!
Barbara said, "Susan selected an autumn theme and went all in! She recalled a song from 1965 and used this week's colors to create leaves turning to fall colors, and she created a guitar from a brown maple leaf. Susan also shared a little inside joke with us by placing birds on the neck of the guitar, to help us remember that "Turn, Turn, Turn" was sung by The Byrds! Susan, I am always blown away by your creative artistry!"
Congratulations Susan! The code to add the badge to your blog is attached below, and your card will also be pinned on our Pinterest Challenge Board. Check it out here.
And now, on to this week's colors. I was recently able to travel to Alaska and I was mesmerized by the wooden carving of the Tinglits in Southeast Alaska. Though there are many unique features of this carving, I thought it would be fun to use some of their traditional colors for this week's challenge.
The dessert challenge this week is to use anything weathered. Though I borrowed the idea from the weathered wood carvings, I encourage you to consider absolutely anything weathered. You could weather your colors, paper, ribbon or other embellishments. Or maybe you have an image that shows a bit of weathering, like a gray haired gnome or a gnarly old tree. As always dessert IS optional!
I'm so happy to introduce three talented guest designers for the month of October: Catherine aka cdimick (CC765 Fave), Debbie aka DebbieinOC (CC787 Fave) and Diane aka dcinkit (CC847 Fave). Please join us in welcoming them!
Please come back to this thread and post a link to your card. There have been site issues with the keyword function, and we don't want to miss seeing your wonderful creations.
Please keep in mind that while SU colors are listed for hte chalenges, these are just color reference points. Use the closest color you have. We want everyone to be able to play!
Please put a CC864 in your keywords section (and if you have more than one keyword/challenge, use a comma to separate them) so we can find your card.
I must admit at first I was stymied with these colors. I'm working on Christmas cards and wanted this bold color combination to work. I know your trip to Alaska gave you all kinds of inspiration, Chris.....it's a truly a beautiful state.

Chris- thank you for this week's colors! For my card creation with distressing as a desssert- I made this fall scene- with a blackbird in a stylized tree, and oversized reddish orange pumpkins in a field with a farmhouse in the background. Added a rather fancy sentiment panel, and used some woodgrain for my top border. Did some watercoloring and distressing by smearing the colored areas with a orange peel dipped in water as I didn't have a brush! Here's Grateful Thanks

For today's card- for both the sketch challenge and this week's color challenge- I went with a Thanksgiving theme, adding a rustic feel with a rough twine bow, a distressed wood background panel, and my woodgrain washi tape- repurposed items. Included a die cut scalloped turquoise panel for contrast. Added a fall leaf and my 2 pilgrims- with turkey and pumpkin pie- my favorites!
Here's my card Thanks-giving

Thank you very much, Barbara for selecting my 'turn, turn, turn' card as your favorite from last weeks Color Challenge! I appreciate your kind words.
I am back again to offer my take on a vibrant Color Challenge hosted by Chris (inkpad). I really enjoyed the retro colors and can't wait to see the gallery.
