Ann, what a wonderful list of suggestions!

I do some of the things you suggest, especially combining my monthly quota with the SCS other challenges or some of the blog challenges like Merry Monday and 52 Christmas Card Throwdown. It keeps it more interesting.

But this year I got behind for some reason. I find it especially hard in the summer to keep it up.

I really like the ideas of having cs pre-cut and making sure to do one on the 25th of each month.

Thank you!

Hope the slump runs away fast Lynn.....you could come visit and help me play with my new toys! I spent almost my entire prize from Simon Says Stamp on Christmas dies and had also ordered the new layering and the stitching squares, circles and ovals from Stampin Up. I am almost at the end of the craft room redo(organizing not building) and so ready to have time to play with my toys.. Come help!!!!!!

Susan, I know what you mean about the summer time. I do not make very many Christmas cards during the summer. Hence, that is why I am pushing myself now to do lots of them!!

My thought was that if I did most of the weekly challenges in November and December for the next year I would be on my way to having most of my cards done!! It worked I have a lot done!!

Lynn - when you get in a slump you need to go exploring!!! Look for cards made with some of your favorite stamps online. Find new techniques to try using those favorite stamps with!!

Pansy - will all be right over to play!! Where are you again????

busy doing most of the change over today. Christmas red away, January snowman blue and gray out........my kids think I'm crazy but I did it all through their childhoods and I have noticed that when I neglect to put some item out, they notice and comment on it.

I've been so busy finishing my Christmas card in DECEMBER that I haven't had time to keep up with this thread...so went back to page 1 and read all. I'm AMAZED...Ann you do 165 cards and someone else needs 200! WOW, that would so overwhelm me, I think I'd be unable to even get started. I thought making 45 cards was quite enough!

I've joined before, but work always got in the way. I just retired so I should be able to make time. I plan on making four cards per month!
Where can I find the list of monthly challenges?

Hi Diane, and welcome! You can find the list of the monthly challenges if you go back to page 1 of this thread; Ann's first two posts contain the information you're looking for!

Happy Stamping!

Everyone has different needs...so do as many as you need and if life gets in the way this year you will still have a head start!

So I'm highly discouraged. It seems that no one in my realm sends Christmas cards anymore. This Christmas my family received THREE photo cards. That's it.
SIGH.
I'm not wanting to make handmade cards for Christmas anymore. Not for anyone other than my husband and kids...

Don't get discouraged over individuals not sending cards out!! Yes it stinks that there are so many penny pitching and lazy people who do not take the time to wish their friends and family a Merry Christmas with a holiday card!!

In the 165 cards that I send out every year, I receive about 60 to 70 back from people. Yes, I track who sends me cards each year! I have a running list in Excel!

I have had people ask why I send cards, why I do what I do, and it's all the time and energy so why do you do it!

Number one reason - IT MAKES ME HAPPY AND I ENJOY MAKING CARDS!!

I do not worry about not receiving a card from someone, I hope I am making them feel guilty that they receive one from me and do nothing in return!

So Shannon pm me your address and I will add you to my list and send you a card in 2017! It will make me happy to do so!!

PS. It's just like being a member of BRAK here at SCS!!

I send birthday cards to 3 people here at SCS every month. We have so many people that do this every month as members of the birthday committee.

But it is not to often that people take the time to thank those individuals for their card! Some do but some do not!

It can be discouraging to not receive a thank you but I will still keep going in hopes that people enjoy what I send them along with the little birthday dies or embossing gifts I enclose!

Point is DO NOT LET THOSE PEOPLE RUIN THE MAGIC OF YOUR CARD MAKING!!

Ann, I hope you heal quickly.

and just a thought, do you think its possible ( not right this minute when you feel better)

that we could get a "master list" type thread that stays sticky with the month and its challenge theme?

I dunno, maybe the very first post in this thread could be edited for the info?

I am just asking because, I seen someone post that they had one done for the middle of the year? and that got me thinking there must be a list somewhere. ( but, I am not seeing it haha)

Thanks,

I don't send many cards anymore, because of the cost of postage and the stress it puts on me to get them out so they reach their destination before Christmas. Call people penny pinching and lazy is not very nice. Lots of people do live on limited income and have other issues that can contribute to "lazy". I am glad that you love and can send out so many cards, that is wonderful , but no reason to call others that can't names.

Ann would be the last person to call someone lazy because they have physical limitations..I do not think that was the spirit of her message at all

For instance I have had spinal fusion and have reduced the amount of cards I send...my neighbour just can't be bothered sending cards..there is a difference.. think being people who craft we tend to see and respect the talent...and limitations in others

I do not know Ann, and it is possible that is not what she intended, but that is how I read it.
I was not referring to just physical limitations, there are many that suffer from mental health issues as well, (that could be why I interpreted her post as I did). Some people could see me as just not bothering, but that is not true. I used to start with great intentions and then get so stress out that it triggered my depression into a downward spiral. Now I just don't send cards except to certain people. I would like to send a few more to people I have met online, but there the cost gets to be too much.
I joined this challenge so that I can send or give a few more cards as they will be already made and ready, less stress.

I understand as well as I can without being in your position...I deal with depression as well..Part of the reason for this challenge thread is to help and motivate you to make the number of cards you need at your own pace...I understand the costs involved and Ann created a thread so that you can post a card here...Then tell your SCS friends where to look to see what you made them..In my mind a brilliant idea..No mailing issues

I read Ann's message to say that there are people in HER life..That can't be bothered...Or that won't spend the money..Based on our life experiences..I find that people can read the same thing and interpet in different ways..I am not saying this is good or bad I am simply stating this has been a fact in my experience

I'm in again! I have found that I need almost 100 per year but do not create multiples of the same except for a few select groups. I will commit to 6 per month but may not post each month depending on how my DT commitments go :-)

Thanks again for the inspiration this thread is each year and how it has helped me to make cards all year round- hugs and Happy New Year!

Hey Rebecca (Dragonworld), sorry you took my post the wrong way, I was venting! That happens with the written word. There are all kinds of people in the world.

It broke my heart when I read Shannon's post about only receiving a few cards this year.

I am speaking about those in my life or could be in anyone's life who could if they wanted to and have the means to, but do not send cards to their friends and family!

I am very much aware of not having the funds to mail out cards. I save throughout the year to be able to do so! And for that very reason opened the thread as Lynn spoke about for us to post to and wish others we care about happy holidays.

Stress is a terrible thing, I am so sorry you deal with that in your life!

My DH suffers from depression, so I am well aware of all the stress and hardships that come with the disease and how it affects families. 2013 was a horrible year for my spouse and family and I had to back away from making as many cards as I normally do. I only could do a few from time to time.

Making cards kept me focused and gave me peace as it should for all of us!

Lynn, thank you for your kind words, and yes you surely do know me!! You are such a wonderful person and always brighten my day with your sense of humor and concern for others.

Today, Dec 29th, I am addressing my Christmas cards!!!
The ones to family were included with gifts mailed before Christmas; but I still have
many friends to send cards to. At least the cards were already made!!

I plan to make 6 cards a month again this year.

I'd love to join this challenge - I did it years ago and it was so nice to have everything done ahead of time!

Neptunem - Kristen. 4 cards per month is my goal

Thanks!!

I was the world's worst participant last year. I actually made way more than my goal of 3 per months, but I ended up posting very few of them because they didn't fit the monthly themes. I make them mostly for a charity for shut-ins, and I donated 60 cards to them this year.
I'll try again for 2017, with a goal of 2 per month, to hopefully give me a better chance of photographing them and posting them. (Besides, I think we will be moving this year which will definitely set me back on production.)
