ORGANIZATION BEING FEATURED: Cards for Hospitalized Kids
DESCRIPTION: (From their website) Cards for Hospitalized Kids(CFHK) is an internationally recognized charitable organization that spreads hope, joy & magic to hospitalized kids across America through uplifting, handmade cards.
TYPE OF CARDS REQUESTED: general cards or holiday cards.
Since it is close to Easter and St. Patrick's Day, you can include a happy holiday message specific to the particular holiday. They do request that holiday cards be received 2 weeks before the holiday, so if you plan to send any St. Patrick's Day cards, please make sure to mail them immediately. Easter cards can be sent anytime in March since Easter is April 17 this year.
Do not to write "Get well", "Feel Better" or other illness related comments. They recommend writing the following uplifting messages:
Stay strong You are awesome Never forget how amazing YOU are You rock I hope you have a great day today You shine brighter than the sun You inspire me Be Brave I believe in YOU
Since they do not yet know the child's name, please make sure you do not address the card to a specific person. If you want to address the card, here are some suggestions:
"Hey there" "Hey you!" "To: a very special person"
Additional Information: Please sign your card with just you first name. Please do not sign your last name. If you wish to, you can also sign your state, such as "Katie from Nebraska", or organization such as "Girl Scout Troop # 777" or "Ann Marie from UBS in Washington DC".
SPECIAL RESTRICTIONS: Please do not include any religious comments such as "God Bless" or "I'm praying for you".
MAILING ADDRESS: Please mail cards to...

I have two questions about this month's mission recipient..... Are they seeking birthday cards for the kids who are celebrating birthdays while inpatient? Also, are personalized messages inside the cards required or just a suggestion?
Oops, one more question.....envelopes needed? The website seemed to indicate that the cards are distributed in hospitals and Ronald McDonald house instead of mailing, but I thought I'd check.
Hi Becca. I think I can answer your questions because I've sent cards to them before. I don't send envelopes, I do sign my name, "Deedee from Wisconsin " it's mainly so that the kids don't just receive a blank card. And lastly, they take any kind of card except what is mentioned in the description. Birthday, hello, you are special, holiday, etc. Have fun making the cards. Kids are so excited to get any type of card!

Reason: Could not quote prior message
Do we HAVE to sign the cards? Or can we just leave them blank inside?
According to their website, they do request that the cards are signed with your first name. I don't know what they would do if you sent the cards without a signature.

I reached out to the organization directly, as I had the same question and it wasn't 100% clear on their website. This was my message to them and their reply:
My Question: I have a question about donating cards..... when we send them to your group, if the cards are blank inside, does your organization personalize a message to the recipient?
Their Response: No. People write messages on the inside of the cards prior to sending them. There are suggestions of what to write on our website in the “make cards” section.
Sadly, I interpreted that as they would just pass along the cards blank to the children who were receiving. I completely understand staffing issues and challenges, especially in the medical field at the current time, but it was still disappointing. If their mission is to make the recipient feel special, I would hope someone would review the cards for messages and that they could be personalized to recipients somewhere along the line. I'm not sure what a good solution would be, but I thought I'd pass along the info.
I will be getting a package out today or tomorrow. I try to be on time, but they are certainly on my mind all month long for sure. Always enjoy making cards for this group.
