Clearsnap is closing
:. Clearsnap is closing. I didnt know SU had bought them. Says today is last day to order but that might be for wholesale accounts as it is suggested we look to scrapbook.com and AZ for retail.

I was surprised to read that as well. I wonder if they produced the stamp pads for SU. Would make sense.

It is sad. I could be totally wrong but it feels to me like they were the first to have pads with really robust rich colors like orchid and peony. :( I hate seeing any company go out but the oldest ones bother me even more. I learned some techniques with their products.

I was surprised as well when I read that. Colorbox inks were my first inks and I have so many of the pigment inkpads, along with a petalpoint set and a rainbow set. I used pigment inks before I even discovered dye inks, because the pigments were so rich in color. I didn't know that SU had taken them over either, but read that the SU inks are not made by Clearsnap. So sad.

I still have a small tin of Cats Eyes on my desk...and I used my Spectrum pad just a couple of weeks ago. Sad. Until distress came on the scene they were almost my only coloured pads.

I had read that the companies ran independently and that SU was their biggest customer ... with their other recent die contract termination and decision to move production overseas, my guess is that their ink production is going the same way. Not positive though.

Oh yes, I almost forgot about all my Cats Eye pads! I keep those in a little box on my shelf and like to take it when I travel.

Sad news whenever a craft mfr/vendor closes. I am glad you shared the news as I was able to buy a "spare backup" LOL for my Frost White pigment inkpad. It was the last one in that color!

Oh gosh, that never crossed my mind. But I recently got a full size pad so along with my small pad and a half bottle of reinker I should be good for a while. Distress Picket Fence is actually pigment, is it? And how does a hybrid white compare to pigment white, can anyone tell me.

Sabrina ... I don't have time to search but there have been discussions about white ink. I know I posted a sample of Brilliance and Colorbox (using the snowman from Frosty ... so quite a long time ago.) The topic gets revived and updated occasionally.
I think Shazsilverwolf (I hope I got her username right) might have done a comparison on her blog. I think W+9's ink was mentioned but I 'm not sure of the details.

Just to add to the hijack ...
White Ink Pad - Splitcoaststampers
This thread from 2012 is about white ink. Post 14 has a link to Shaz' blog and I think it was post32 where I linked to a different thread and my personal samples.
Hope this helps.

What will I ink my edges with?? I've been using Chestnut Roan since I started crafting. I do have reinkers, and an extra cats eye or two, but I had no idea they were closing down. :(

That is one of my favorite shades of brown. If possible, try to get to any/all big box stores before they sell out. Hobby Lobby had some full size oads for under $3.00 last week.

I may be a lone wolf here, but I absolutely LOVED their Rollagraph roller wheels. I was sorry when SU stopped carrying them. Quick way to decorate a gift bag. I agree--it's incredibly sad when a longtime stamp company closes.

I know this is an old thread but I recv'd this notice today:
Ever
since the announcement that ColorBox range ink pads were to be
discontinued, Lavinia has been working closely with their manufacturer
to develop a range of their own that would do everything that ColorBox
would do …and more. Elements
Premium Dye Ink Pads have been amazing to work with, and we are
thrilled and excited to introduce this wonderful collection of vibrant
colours.
The
Elements collection work amazingly well with the Gel Press gelliplate
and we have perfected an inkpad that blends well, with a low water
content to give a smooth even finish. Elements Premium Dye Inks also
work beautifully with our blending smoothies, and the Brayer, and are a
perfect solution for incredible backgrounds.

Well ... my wish list was so long, I broke it into several smaller ones by theme. I'd avoided Lavinia in the past since I'm not into fairies and "try" to resist temptation.

Chesnut Roan was the BEST for inking edges. I also enjoyed their Dragonfly Black Pigment ink which was an intriguing and beautiful black with green and blue tones. I really will miss Colorbox!

I am very late to this conversation, but I had not realized that Clearsnap/Colorbox was completely done. My very first pad from them was Heliotrope, and I still have it. I tested it last night, and it still works! It is heartbreaking to see such an old company go out of business.
Now, I am on a mad rush to get re-inkers for all my pads. I have SO many pads, from them, cats eyes, petal points, and the longer boxes with several colors in them. Can anyone recommend the best place to get re-inkers for these amazing pads?

Possibly eBay and Amazon? I would look and then periodically look! Colorbox is what introduced to me to chalk... so sad.

There is very small selection of pads at joggles.com. Heartfelt Creations and Stamps of Life might have some (didn't look) but they might be "custom" colors.
Try searching offbeat online sources like Wal-Mart, Sears and major drugstores. And any place with even the tiniest craft section.
Good luck!

Jacquard has purchased the formulas for all the Clearsnap/Colorbox inks, so be looking out for them to come out with their own line using those formulas sometime soon - they did not buy the Colorbox *name* though, so the branding will be different.

Like many of you, Chestnut Roan was my go-to for ink-edge distressing. And I also collected a small box of cat-eyes in various colors over the years. Then when customers began reporting the pads came un-glued...and it happened to me...I quit buying. I eventually discovered that VersaMagic Chalk ink Dew drops were a fine substitute and juicier pads, too. Now I use Jumbo Java or Gingerbread shades of brown VersaMagic instead of the Chestnut Roan and am a happy camper. But I still have a few ancient Ancient Page inkpads that I use direct-to-paper on occasion and more Smooch Inks than I care to admit to...and still use them and have fun doing it.

I'm late to the party but just wanted to say Clearsnap was actually purchased by Stampin Up in 2006. It was run by Sterling Gardner (Shelli's husband) and separate entity from Stampin Up.

OMGosh, when I started stamping Colorbox petal pads where about the only colored inks available. I love my Ancient Page ink pads and still use them regularly. Glad I have always bought a reinker when I bought a new color ink pad.

Argh! I just realized that one of my favorite blue inks was made by Clearsnap. I got a small ink pad about 2 years ago in a color called Indigo. It's more like a bright royal blue (less green than SU Pacific Point). Wish I had gotten a reinker at the time but who knew?!!
I have a lot of old Clearsnap pigment inks, as those were some of my first ink pads. I switched from pigment to dye ink years ago but it might be time to pull out the pigment ink pads and play around with them again. I like using pigment ink with inked embossing folder techniques. Almost all of my Clearsnap ink pads have held up really well over the years.
