Dyed Silk Scarf
by Ilina Crouse
Use alcohol inks to customize a beautiful silk scarf.
Supplies
- Alcohol based markers (Chameleon pens used here)
- Alcohol based re-inkers (Chameleon re-inkers used here)
- Silk scarf (any shape or size, square one used here)
- Droppers
- Rubbing alcohol or Colorless blender
Step-by-Step
-
Step 1
Fold the silk scarf 4-ply.
Using alcohol markers and re-inkers, make your design. Make sure the colors bleed through all four layers. -
TIP:
Use droppers for applying re-inkers. -
Step 2
Apply rubbing alcohol (or colorless blender) using a dropper over all areas where you applied markers and re-inkers. This will cause the colors to bleed into each other and create fun patterns.
-
NOTE:
Re-inkers bleed more when rubbing alcohol is applied over them, whereas the markers bleed less. -
Step 3
For more vibrant color, let the project dry completely. If you want more subtle colors, don’t dry it completely.
-
Step 4
Wash the scarf in cold water.
NOTE:
If you don’t let the scarf dry completely in step 3, wash it until you see clean water running out of it, as some of the color will wash off.
Let it dry, iron it, and enjoy it.
