Skinny Notepad Portfolio

by Twila Davis

Make a holder for a slimline notepad.

Supplies

  • Cardstock (Stampin' Up!® Starry Sky, Basic White, Snowflake Specialty Vellum used here)
  • Adhesive (Double Stick Tape or Liquid Glue)
  • Paper Trimmer with Score Blade
  • 8 1/4" x 3" notepad
  • Small Calendar (opt.)
  • Mini Adhesive Velcro Dots
  • Other supplies as needed to complete the project (SU products used here: Starry Sky Ink, Go To Greetings stamp set, Label Me Fancy Punch, Detailed Trio Punch, Dimensionals)

Step-by-Step

  1. Step 1

    Cut base cardstock to 9 1/4" x 8 1/2".

    On the long side score at 2 1/2", 2 3/4", 5 7/8", & 6 1/8".

  2. Step 2

Cut a piece of patterned paper to 2 1/4" x 8 1/4". Round the two right corners with a corner rounder punch. Do the same to the base cardstock piece on smaller of the two sides.

  3. Step 3

Attach the patterned paper to the side of base you just rounded the corners of using adhesive of your choice. Crease all folds.

  4. Step 4

Attach skinny notebook to middle of base using adhesive. Attach small calendar to the right hand side.

  5. Step 5

Add three mini Velcro dots as shown.

Alternative closure: create a belly band by wrapping a strip of cardstock around the holder. Adhere and embellish to cover the seam.

  6. Step 6

Embellish the portfolio as desired to complete your project.

Variations

  1. To accommodate a notepad of any size:
For the cardstock base, add 1/2" to the height of the notepad.
For the total width add 1/4" to the width of the notepad and multiply that number by 3. Add 2x the thickness of the notepad and subtract 1/4" from the total so the cover will leave a small border at the edge.
Score lines will be at 1) width of notepad + 1/4", 2) thickness of notepad, 3) width of notepad +1/4", 4) thickness of notepad

  2. For the sample shown, the notepad is 2 3/4" wide x 7" tall. The base was cut to 9 3/4" x 7 1/2" and scored at 3", 3 1/2", 6 1/2", and 7".

How handy is this?! I have so many little notebooks and post-it pads that would be very much enhanced by this technique. I'd never thought to do a wraparound cover. Very clever!
