Kimono Card
by Cheryl Hamilton
Cut and fold to create a kimono shaped card.
Supplies
- Patterned paper (Stampin' Up!® Delightfully Eclectic Designer Series Paper used here)
- Cardstock (SU Basic White cardstock used here)
- Trimmer
- Adhesives (Multipurpose Liquid Glue and Stampin' Seal used here)
- Other supplies as needed to complete the project (SU products used here: Petal Park and Country Bouquet photopolymer stamp sets, Basic White medium envelopes, Classic Stampin' Pads (Bubble Bath, Fresh Freesia, Garden Green), 3/8" sheer ribbon)
Step-by-Step
-
Step 1
Cut patterned paper to 8 1/2" x 5 1/2". With the 8 1/2" side along top, score at 2 1/8" and 6 3/8".
TIP:
Be careful and don't press too hard when scoring if you're used to scoring cardstock.
Fold both sides toward the inside. -
Step 2
With the card still folded, make a 3/4" cut at the 2" mark. Turn the card over and do the same thing.
-
Step 3
Make a fold from the end of the cut line straight down to the bottom of the card. Fold the long piece in towards the middle then fold it back on itself. Do this on both sides.
-
Open up the card and press the fold in toward the center of the card.
-
Step 4
Neckline: Place a ruler across the card under the sleeves to help you position. Fold both sides back evenly (~ 1/2") to create a V neckline.
-
Step 5
Cut a 1" x 6 1/2" obi (belt) and wrap it around the back. Overlap the ends and glue.
TIP:
Don't glue this band too tightly. You want to be able to slip it up & down. -
Step 6
Cut about 10" of ribbon. Attach at the center on the back of the obi.
-
Turn over and tie a square knot in front. Trim ribbon.
-
Step 7
Cut a piece of cardstock to 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" and score down the middle at 3 1/4". Fold.
Decorate the front of the small card as desired. -
Glue to the inside of the card.
-
Step 8
To create a matching envelope: Cut patterned paper to 6" x 2 1/4". Apply glue to the outside envelope flap then adhere the paper.
-
Turn over and cut the paper to fit the envelope flap.
-
Step 9
Complete the card.

Cheryl, I just realized that you live in Maui, where all the devastation is. I am so sorry, and will include you and others in my prayers. How tragic!
I'm going to make one for a friend who loves to go to Japan.
Hope you and your family are safe.
