Faux Book Stack

by Gloria Plunkett

Recreate this trendy decor item without using books!

Supplies

  • Mini wood crate (found at Dollar Tree)
  • Cardstock
  • Inks for distressing cardstock edges
  • Sponge
  • Adhesive
  • Letters (stickers, stamps, vinyl, die cuts)
  • Decorations (ribbon and trim , silk flowers, etc.)

Step-by-Step

  1. Step 1

A mini wood crate will be the base for this project.

    TIP:
If you’re unable to find the wood crate, a small cardboard or chipboard box will work. Trim and adhere wide craft sticks to the sides to simulate the slats. Fill in the corners with modeling paste if needed.

  2. Measure and note the dimensions of the box and the width of the slats.

  3. Step 2

Cut cardstock to the size of the top and bottom of the box.

  4. Cut cardstock strips to cover the slats on both sides of the box (six here).

  5. Step 3

Cut additional cardstock strips for the box ends.

  6. Step 4

Ink the edges of each panel if desired.

  7. Step 5

Adhere the cardstock to the top and bottom box.

  8. Step 6

Decorate the cardstock for the slats with words – they can be die cut, stickers, vinyl, stamped, or hand lettered. To leave room for a ribbon and other decorations, position the words to the right.

  9. Step 7

Adhere the side panels to the box.

  10. Step 8

Add ribbons and other embellishments to decorate the box. For the sample, trim is wrapped around the box and topped with a tied bundle of ribbon pieces.

  11. Step 9

    Complete the project.

Love this inexpensive and easy way to adopt this trend. You could use another holiday theme on the other side, or make 2 reversible sets for the 4 seasons. I might even make a beachy set to go with my everyday decor...so may possibilities.

Absolutely adorable. I would like to know what kind of glue that you are using and does it come in that particular bottle? Thanks for sharing this project.
