This week the CAS challenge is about backgrounds. Though this doesn't look all that CAS, it was pretty darn simple, and fun, too!
The background was created with Lumiere paints, water, and alcohol. It gives a little different look, as the alcohol seems to give an oily look when you look closely at the paper. There is also more movement when using the alcohol instead of water. It's pretty cool IRL. I already had the butterfly stamped on the Mixed Media paper, so coloring it with the Distress inks and sponges was easy. After fussy cutting I went over the edges with the respective colors.
Have you ever seen a Tiger Swallowtail caterpillar that is ready to go into cocoon stage? They are brown and very strange looking. We have a lot of Swallowtails around here in the spring, and found 2 of the caterpillars in the pre-cocoon stage. We now have 2 cocoons and are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the butterflies. http://www.performance-vision.com/Ti...index-2011.htm
This shows the life cycle from egg to butterfly. Pretty amazing. We have the last cycle now.

So very striking! I love the gorgeous swallowtail!!! We had our front porch light on the other night and a HUGE ....I had to go look it up before I continued my comment.....Antheraea polyphemus moth was fluttering around my door!!! I was trying to go outside but he kept beating at the door and he was huge! I finally turned off the light and he fluttered off somewhere. Your butterfly made me think of it!
