This is for Robins fun F4A challenge all about "sayings". DH and I are one week into our 4 month caravan holiday, so I made this sample before we went away. Thankfully we have Internet for a few more days!!
My saying is "Happy Little Vegimite".... it pretty much means "Happy as a clam". Aussies are raised on Vegimite. It is a very, very dark brown, bordering on black, spread. I just checked the jar - it is yeast extract, with barley and wheat. It is chock-a-block full of vitamin B and folate.
Little people start having Vegimite by dipping their teething rusks in it, 90% of school kids would have a Vegimite sandwich in their lunch box and for the rest of us, chances are we had Vegimite on toast for breakfast.
There is a Vegimite song....
We're happy litte Vegimites, as bright as bright can be
We all enjoy our Vegimite for breakfast, lunch and tea
Our mummies say we're growing stronger every single week
Because we love our Vegimite
We all adore our Vegimite
It puts a rose in every cheek.
When I googled Australian sayings I was SHOCKED to learn that so many everyday words we use, mean absolutely nothing in every other country!! Gosh, you must think I am a complete nutter LOL.
About my card, my little Vegimite girl complete with rosy cheeks was stamped then fussy cut. Her overalls are paper pieced and she is coloured with Prismacolour pencils.
The background was quickly done by spraying Dylusions Ink Spray onto aluminium foil, squirt on a lot of water and dunk the cardstock into it. Once dry, I stamped on the tree and added lots of white pen and pencil strokes.
I cut around the tree stamps image (the doodled border is on the stamp). There is a small white card behind the tree, so this actually stands up properly and fits into a larger envelope.
Thanks for looking, sorry I can't attach Robins challenge info and I also apologise in advance if it takes me a while to comment. I have to hold my iPad in the air until I get a signal LOL. It's a bit hard to do that and watch out for snakes!!!

I love your fabulous card and wonderful vegimite story, Susie. It doesn't sound very tasty. But like most things, if is tastes bad it is probably very good for you!!

SOunds like black strap molasses..........but that is nasty stuff!! Your vegimite may be more like Nutella, which is fab!! Your card is of course fab, with the fun tree, and that darling girl, so sweetly colored.

Oh Susie don't be sorry. Your card is adorable and thanks so much for the entire story. How would we ever know things like that if you didn't share. I love hearing the history of what we eat and why and where the habit came from etc. DH and I eat "mounds" of cheese as we live in WI - the dairy state, (although CA is trying to take over.) We love our cheese. It's the best, and we are happy little cheeseheads!
