This is for Carey's fun sketch challenge. I started by printing the template and cutting each shaped strip to use as masks. Next I stamped Phil, Little Phil and Penny - actually before I did that, I cut up the stamp to have 3 individual penguins. Using MISTI I stamped them all many times with Versafine black ink.
The sky was made using the smack and squirt technique - smack "tumbled glass" distress ink onto aluminium foil and squirt on a lot of water (a little bit more than usual), I also sprayed water on the foam blending tool. Generally I just scrub the inky water onto a background, but this wasn't an option here as I had already stamped Phil, Little Phil and Penny. The application of ink needed to be very gentle and controlled.
I used a rectangular foam blending tool, very gently applying the inky water and turning the foam blender on to its side to get really close the penguins. I also used an aqua pen dipped into the same inky water to get right up close to the edges. The same smack & squirt technique was used for the sea, this time I used Blueprint Sketch distress ink. I also very gently swiped this foam blending tool over the sky to give a bit of depth.
I roughly cut a mask to temporarily cover the penguins while I flicked and sprayed on water. Normally I make proper masks using X-press Masking paper or acetate and store the masks with the stamp...that's on my "to do" list!!
The darker blue bits in the sea were made with a blue Distress Crayon and dipping my finger in water. I also used a white crayon. I used a grey alcohol marker to do a rough outline on the left side of their bodies and under their feet - they really look 3D in real life.
I sat and looked at this trying to decide what else it needed. I added some stamped clouds but it still needed something. I went through my sentiments and BINGO...guess what jumped out at me!! The rest is history - drew on a bikini for Penny with a yellow zig marker and added white paint dots. I used the paint to blur the edges between the sky, ice and sea.
Thanks so much for looking.
Tip: These Katzelkraft penguins (and clouds) are unmounted red rubber stamps. They are very easy to cut and separate. To use in MISTI, position stamp, apply school glue stick to all over the back of the stamp, close lid press firmly, now slide the stamp into the exact place. It is important to slide the stamp, not lift it. I stamped these penguins and other penguins over an hour period and they didn't budge. At the end, remove stamps, wipe MISTI with an alcohol free baby wipe, and then clean stamps with a wipe or under the tap.

Laughing!!! Great story and so funny! Poor Penny, have you not talked to her about laser hair removal?? Regardless of her hairy body, she's a beauty in that home-made bikini! You're the "smack and squirt" queen, Susie!

First, I did not realise this was for the sketch when I was peering at it (trying to figure it all out before I read your commentary), such is the ease with which you create your scenes and you made it look so natural. Such great characters you create too!
Second, thanks for the tip about glue with the red rubber - will keep it in mind with a few tree stamps Ive yet to use; its off putting when you realise theres a whole lot of fussy cutting with that sticky foam stuff :(

Susie I love your super cute penguin card. Penny, Phil and little Phil oh how fun and what a great sentiment for Penny's darling swim suit. I so love that we can stamp over and over with our Misti to get just the right image. Great BG you created for your darling family too using the sketch.
