Maura is our hostess today, and she has challenged us with the Color Combination of Melon Mambo, Pretty in Pink and Pumpkin Pie with added green as our dessert option.
I had several ideas in my head for this challenge, but then I read the description of last Friday's Free For All challenge, "New Stamps Stashed Away," and I immediately thought of this stamp, which I had to have, bought used at auction ages ago, paid way too much for, and have never used! Perfect!
My focal panel was stamped with the retired SU set, Garden Collage, in Black Onyx Versafine ink and then heat embossed with clear powder. I used Fabriano Hot Pressed watercolor paper, because I wanted a smooth surface for stamping. I colored the image with Zig Real Brush Clean Color Markers and a waterbrush, then cut it out with an Inside & Out Rounded Stitched Square STAX die-namics.
For the background, I tried a new technique that I saw on Jennifer McGuire's blog just this morning, Easy Distress Ink Backgrounds. I used a 5-1/2" x 4-1/4" piece of Neenah Solar White cardstock, and covered it with Picked Raspberry Distress Ink, using the direct-to-paper technique. I laid the piece on a board, taped my Heidi Swapp stencil on top of it, then sprayed with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist. You can just barely see the sparkle in the photo. Removed the stencil and used my heat gun to dry the card. I really love this technique: it was fun to do, not too messy, and creates a lovely background layer.
I trimmed down that layer and used the same STAX die to cut an opening for the watercolored piece. I love that these dies leave a stitched border on both sides of the opening, and the pieces fit together perfectly.
I cut out "friend" from Pretty in Pink cardstock, using the Reverse Confetti die, Fancy Words. This word comes out of the die in four pieces (f, rie, and nd, plus the dot on the i). I used the Press `n Seal technique to get them all lined up and glued on nice and straight! Added a few Pretty Pink Posh clear droplets, and it was done!
Thanks for stopping by, and please play along with us this week!

What a cool background. I saw that technique too. I loved this stamp when it came out. You've colored it beautifully.
